Also - an aside.. vitriole, no, you misunderstand the reason for curtness,
it is simply that I believe the owner has no reason to be concerned as it
does no harm - an opinion I've come to over time, but as I said prior -
that is no reason to be sloppy or careless - thanks again.

Re: Yet another flyer

2013-08-31 Thread Drew Jensen
Yes - that is exactly what it is, an update to that flyer.

Ok - Thanks much to Everyone - particularly for the reminder not to be too
loose with trademarks - it prompted me to re-work the short flyer and what
I ended up with can be fond here:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bx7ZNEXlmR0IQjZiZnFkS2dnUnM
(odd, that PDF picked up some verdana fonts when I added the frames..hmm
;-/)

Kay mentioned Why AOO items - that is the section I was looking for most
guidance on.

So, I'll look at Don's suggestions and Kay's tomorrow - BTW the odt file
for todays pdf is at:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bx7ZNEXlmR0IaW1XcURJa20xQU0

I'll, hopefully, be on-line again Tuesday

Dont be confused by the large Firefox buttons in the window in the
back (1st screenshot), thats a special Firefox theme that allows
easier navigation with the tablet's touch screen and my fat fingers,
by making FF toolbar buttons 2x the size.

I'm running Win7 64bit on a MSI Windpad tablet. Native screen
resolution is 1280x800.

Full screen is a matter of taste, as already discussed on this list. But
of course the start centre should not be cut.

Andre pushed some last-minute changes to 4.0 to get a better display on
big (>1024x768) screens, and it looked quite OK.

Is your screen resolution really 800x500? In that case you are running
OpenOffice below the system requirements of 1024x768

would also add, you are running it at a very unusual screen resolution...

First minor visual annoyance. I clicked on the AOO launcher and got this:
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/5526/9owy.jpg

I actually expected this (full screen).
http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/8707/qsna.jpg

I can understand individual apps (Calc, Writer, Impress, etc) not
launching full screen (Id actually prefer everything to launch full
screen, but I understand that some people might need to have two apps
open at once to copy/paste data, so respecting the last window
position/size might be nice for some), but in the case of the main
"OpenOffice" app launcher, not running it full screen is UGLY. Notice
the AOO logo cut in the screenshot.

These small things, IMHO, make a lot of difference wrt the first
impression that users get. If I have to click to maximize the window
to start working, thats one additional annoyance...

Just my $0.02

Reporting a problem with the Open Office website

2013-08-31 Thread Rick and Jill Lee

Dear sirs:

The latest issue of Open Office is unstable. In spreadsheets, it repeats lines
when scrolling, refuses to copy and past entire lines or even groups of cells,
some formatting has been lost compared to the prior version of Open Office.

This is very disconcerting and disappointing. Can you possible assist?

Re: Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

2013-08-31 Thread Max Merbald

Hello Ron,

my guess is that when installing OpenOffice you accidentially chose to
open all MS-Office files with OpenOffice. Please click right on any word
file (in the explorer), go to "open with" and chose "standard app" or
"standard program" (I'm not entirely sure what it's called in the
English version of Windows, using the German one.) Then you can chose
Word to open all Word files. I hope that helps to solve your problem.
;) If it doesn't work just ask again!

[announce] genLang extract is ready.

2013-08-31 Thread janI
Hi

I am pleased to inform you, that I have reached a major milestone with
genLang.

genLang is now integrated in the build system (for extraction), and I have
carefully tested that "genLang extract" (generation of .pot template files)
is 100% identical to the existing system (except for the approx 5 errors in
the old system).

Sources are in branches/l10n40 (based on trunk approx start august)
R1519182.

The work flow is:

1) run "build --all --genPO" or "build --genPO"
2) on pootle server:
  "cd aooGenLang; svn up"
"pootle update_stores" (with parms as normal)
3) on translate.a.o
   "update against templates"
4) translate
5) on pootle server:
"pootle sync_stores" (with parms as normal)
"cd aooGenLang; svn commit"

Now translated files are available in our source tree.

I have tested all these steps. We can make a number of elegant
optimizations,
a) allow committers to commit directly in pootle (removes 5)
b) allow committers to run "svn up" (req. a simple php page and removes 2,3)

If someone could review the branch, it would be real nice. Also I need to
check build on windows/mac.

In the meantime I will integrate "genLang convert" so we can get all
current translations into the new system.

and finally integrate "genLang merge" that generates sources with languages.

This looks like a good update to the recent flyer that was done for the 3.4
release and used at FOSDEM--

http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/File:AOO_Flyer.pdf

The one thing I like from the existing one is the first paragraph from
"What is Apache OpenOffice". If this could be added this first item and
shorten some of your 'Why" sections, that would be ideal in my mind.

I also think there is a second problem.

There are about 20 strings that have changed msgId (en-US text) between
4.0.1 and trunk, so a keyId generated for trunk, might not work when used
on 4.0.1.

I found the about 20 strings, when I compared template files (.pot) between
4.0.1 and trunk.

Re: [RELEASE]: new snapshot build for AOO 4.0.1

2013-08-31 Thread Regina Henschel

Hi Mechtilde,

because of problems with the German Pootle data base the corrected
translations are not yet integrated into the snapshot. See thread
"[RELEASE]: Translation errors in German translation" in
l...@openoffice.apache.org

I have translated the missing 8 words yesterday, which Jürgen mentioned
in that thread.

The sidebar should not have any wrong texts in Pootle. They are all
corrected. But I cannot verify it, because Pootle is not reachable in
the moment.

Kind regards
Regina

Hi,

The SNAPSHOT tag rev. 1518670 is based on revision 1518667 on branch AOO401

We have started to provide Linux builds to start early testing of our
builds and ensure that they can be used as replacement for Ariels
builds. We build also on CentOS5 systems that should have the baseline.

Ariel pointed out that he won't be able to deliver the builds in the
future starting with the beginning of September. At this point I would
like to thank you Ariel for his support in the past. I know what it
means to do the builds, sign and upload it.

The wiki page is updated and for Linux you can find archive builds as
well directly in the directory (not linked via the wiki).

The differences between this and the last snapshot can be found under
http://people.apache.org/~jsc/developer-snapshots/snapshot/izlist.htm

Please note that the translation updates are not yet marked as fixed. I
have taken a snapshot from Pootle to support early testing. Please add
comments in the issue or mark it as fixed if no further updates via
Pootle can be expected. It will help to reduce the workload on my side.

Updated languages are: sk, nl, en-GB, es, km, pl, zh-TW, pt

If Regina recreates her KeyID build from the current trunk (note: trunk
not AOO401, since at the moment this wasn't accepted for inclusion in
AOO401) you will see KeyIDs in the sidebar too.

The KeyIDs must be matched to the localize.sdf available in trunk (I saw
that KeyIDs in some cases differ, like having '>' turned into ']', but
this doesn't affect your work).

AOO 4.0 Release notes problem in numbering

2013-08-31 Thread 張仁瀚
Hello everyone,

Recent days I have tried some improvement in the version 4.0 from release
notes [1] . But I got a problem in my implementation.
The item "Support more Numbering&bullet types in docx" is under the index
"OOXML general". And that is where my question is.

I use the function which is "numbering" to enter the following words in MS
office:

一. some words

二. some words

三. some words

壹、some words

貳、some words

參、some words

甲、some words

乙、some words

丙、some words

And I saved it as docx. In fact, whatever I used doc or docx, I got the
same result as I opened the doc or docx file with AOO:

1. some words

2. some words

3. some words

壹、some words

貳、some words

參、some words

甲、some words

乙、some words

丙、some words

The problem is that Chinese number (一二三 is equal to 123) cannot be convert
completely in AOO.
Does I got wrong understanding in this improvement or there is something
wrong?

Also, if this improvement is not talking about what I did above, how can I
contribute and improve my problem?

Bundling dictionaries with langpacks

2013-08-31 Thread Andrea Pescetti
Users have reported that the Italian language pack does not contain the
Italian dictionary. If I recall correctly, technically we have had the
possibility to bundle dictionaries with langpacks since OpenOffice 3.x
(anyway, 3.3 or earlier).

Do we have support for it in the current extensions.lst mechanism? For
example, it would make sense to specify that:
- The Italian full version should contain the English and Italian
dictionaries

- The Italian langpack should contain the Italian dictionary

Python 3 and AOO

2013-08-31 Thread Ricardo Berlasso
On the ES forum there was a question about python 3 support on AOO. On the
release notes(1) I can see that pyUNO supports python 3, but by default
version 2 is used. So, two questions

- is it possible for the user to choose python 3 instead of 2 or this is
set on build time?
- are there plans of when python 3 will be set on by default?

Thanks

Regards
Ricardo
