Re: [slim] Ceiling Speakers to Connect to Squeezebox Receiver
Auto switching inputs looks interesting!!! However, is there a device that turns an audio stream into a digital IP stream that the Squeezebox can then stream? For example, is there a device I can plug into my TV audio output, that then converts the audio to an IP stream that can be streamed over my home network that squeezebox can then play like an internet radio service? -- jwagner010 jwagner010's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29405 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62190 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Ceiling Speakers to Connect to Squeezebox Receiver
I forgot about the dual auto-switching inputs! It's another nice feature, but I don't use it. The auto on/off works great. It has a manual control, so you can adjust the sensitivity for the Squeezebox signal. -- sleepysurf main system: sb2 (with elpac linear psu) > benchmark dac-1 > modwright swl 9.0se > belles 350a reference > ml summits. audience au24e and blue jeans cables. secondary systems: sb3 in master br (russound r235ls amp driving in-ceiling speaker) and game room (powered swan s200a speakers), with boom in home office. sleepysurf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62190 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It even allows you to take over the speakers of another device if I understand correctly. Do you use that feature too? Does the auto on/off switch work well at low sound levels? There was a little discussion of it last November in this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54571 Cool device. If I didn't already have more SB's than rooms I'd get one. I think it's a big mistake that SD doesn't offer a similar package. Have an amp built in solves a lot of problems. Less wiring, no hassle trying to get the amp top switch on/off with the SB. Integrated volume control... I know there are solutions for all these problems. I tried most of them. I have powered studio monitors switched with the ampswitch plugin in the living room. I have T-amp's in the office and bedrooms permanently on. But this is a much cleaner solution. Re: [slim] Ceiling Speakers to Connect to Squeezebox Receiver
Don't limit yourself to auto-sensing amps, especially because many of the "T-class" amps, such as the Sonic Impact T amp, are very efficient and draw very little power even when they are on (less than the AudioSource does in standby mode). A few months ago someone posted a link to a site where some company was selling a SBR that they had modified to include an amp. I can't find the thread now, but you might want to search for it. Personally I prefer separate components. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62190 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Ceiling Speakers to Connect to Squeezebox Receiver
I would like to connect a set of in ceiling speakers or in wall speakers to a Squeezebox receiver and then use the Squeezebox Controller to control the music delivered through the speakers. However, I notice that the Squeezebox receiver requires connection to an AMP or powered speakers. Seems like I will need to buy and install an AMP and put it between the speakers and the Receiver. However, this becomes another device I need to manage and I would just like to use the one controller in this case the Squeezebox Controller. Has anyone got suggestions for my setup and keeping things simple (I am not a big fan of the Boom)? -- jwagner010 jwagner010's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29405 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62190 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Ceiling Speakers to Connect to Squeezebox Receiver
Thanks for the quick replys. I agree building an Amp into the receiver would make this a no brainer in my purchasing decision. I will check out the AudioSource AMP 100 in the interim. Re: [slim] Ceiling Speakers to Connect to Squeezebox Receiver
For my in-ceiling speakers I use a simple AudioSource AMP 100. It costs less than US$100 (check Amazon), is powerful enough to drive most in-ceiling speakers, and is good (but not audiophile) quality. It doesn't require any "management". I just plug the SBR into the "Input 2" inputs, turn it on, and set the volume to about the 1 o'clock position (you'll want to adjust depending on your speakers and desired volume level). The inputs are auto-sensing, so after 5-10 minutes with no signal from the SBR the amp goes into "standby" mode. In standby mode it still draws around 5w of power, and if that's more than you want to burn you can simply turn the amp off when you're done, and back on when you want to listen again. Alternatively you could get active (ie, powered) in-ceiling speakers instead of amplifier+passive speakers. One possible complication with that approach is ensuring that the line-level cable from the SBR to the speakers is as short as possible and routed in a way that it doesn't pick up a low frequency hum from nearby electrical wires. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62190 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Ceiling Speakers to Connect to Squeezebox Receiver
You are correct in understanding that you need either powered speakers or an amp between a SBR and passive speakers. If you search these forums you will see posts about very efficient "digital" amplifiers that are as small, or smaller, than a SBR. These would work well for your application and wouldn't have to be managed as you would set the volume of the amp when you install it, then control music volume with the SBC. There are a few forum posts that ask Slimdevices/Logitech to consider making a device that has an integrated amp that you can directly attach passive speakers to but there is no feedback to determine if this is being considered. Sonos and Cisco/Linksys offer devices that do this so market place realities may drive them to a decision. I know that I would be very interest in a SB3 (Classic) with an integrated, highly efficient, amp. -- Kiwi Kiwi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2169 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62190 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
