[slim] Re: Slimserver won't start automatically
Looks like I got it to work, by unchecking "automatically run at system startup", and checking "automatically run at login". No clue why this should work, but it did the trick for me... -- Fleury Fleury's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9783 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31162 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Leave it as 'localhost' in the shortcut. You can however use http://127.0.0.1:9000 from the address line or from a bookmark. -- Diana -- Diana Diana's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7463 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31162 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Slimserver won't start automatically
Have you perhaps installed a nightly and not done full install from a setup.exe. For some reason the nightlies have never included a file called "SlimServer Web Interface.url" in C:\Program Files\SlimServer To create this file, open the Web UI in Internet Explorer. Then select File->Send->Shortcut to Desktop. Now rename the shortcut to SlimServer Web Interface and move to the Slimserver directory. -- oreillymj oreillymj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=699 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31162 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Slimserver won't start automatically
Just found this thread after trying in vain for 2-3 weeks to get slimserver to run at startup on XP SP2. Not a ZoneAlarm problem, and it's all set to run in "services" as automatic. Every time I have to manually start the service, I reset the tray icon context menu to auto startup - still no joy...I can start it from the tray icon every time (though despite two reinstalls it never finds the "url interface", and I have to load the page as a browser shortcut...). One odd thing though, today when I got home, it started automatically! ??. Though I didn't make any changes since last time. The only difference is that usually I start the PC and come back later to log into my account. This time, as soon as the account choices came up and logged on. So, maybe there is some hope to one of your first idea's in selecting slimserver to start to an account name - although when I last tried that it wouldn't start at all, maybe I should play around with it. If I try to get into my account very quickly, it hasn't loaded everything in fully yet including McAfee. Damn McAfee. Seems to be terribly troublesome. cheers again Diana :O) -- Justme Justme's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31162 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Thanks Diana, I really appreciate the time you gave me on this. I have tried the latest releases (up to a couple of days ago) and each time I fully deleted the slimserver folder. @Skunk, unfortunately I don't have a spare computer. I am very hesitant to go back to v6.3. With this version, there was so much lag using the remote to choose tracks, that the slimserver was pretty much useless. At least with 6.5 I can use it once I start it manually. I just wish it would start automatically. -- Justme Justme's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31162 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Slimserver won't start automatically
I got it to work unintentionally back in 6.3 by reformatting the hard drive, but I couldn't even pull up windows task manager back then because my OS was corroupted somehow. 6.3 worked great with a fresh win2k, and 6.5 just works all around- for what I do at least. Anyone got any ideas? If you get no more replies... I wonder whether your database is corrupted. You could try deleting the database manually, and SS should recreate it on restart. The link below says where the database is - make sure slimserver is stopped before deleting it. http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cg...erDatabaseFile Then if still no joy I'd try a clean reinstall of the latest nightly. (This means uninstalling the software and deleting the C:\Program Files\SlimServer directory manually.) Get the latest windows .exe from http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/latest/6.5/ Sorry not to be more specifically helpful. Let's hope someone else can be. And I have tried turning off the firewall and AV. Though that is no easy feat with McAfee Internet Security (no wonderful button that switches everything off), and still no luck. Thanks Diana for your replay. I'm not entirely sure that the link you gave is for the exact same problem. In that thread they seemed to be discussing that the SB had problems connecting with the server. In my problem they have no problems connecting - so long as Slimserver has started. The problem is that Slimserver just doesn't start automatically when the computer starts up. -- Justme Justme's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31162 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Slimserver won't start automatically
Justme >>> As you guess, there have been threads on this topic - see, for example, http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29230 The issue could be, as you suggest, related to security settings - check by turning off the security software and retrying? I'm not sure whether the specific factors affecting the automatic startup problem have been identified. In my own case, startup mysteriously returned to normal, seemingly of its own accord: was it a new nightly; a Windows update; a change in my security system? Who knows?!!) One matter that gave me grief for a while was permissions in Windows: assuming you're using Windows, open Settings / Control Panel, and click on the Administrative Tools icon. Open Services, and scroll down to Slimserver. Dbl Click it. Then make sure that 'Startup type' is set to Automatic. Then, if you use a passworded account to log on to Windows, open the "Log on" tab, set it to "This account" (click the radio button) and enter the username and password you use to log in to Windows. Reverse out, clicking Apply and OK as appropriate. If Slimserver hasn't started by itself, right click the Systray icon and select 'start'. Do hope this helps. (Alternatively, chanting incantations over your SB while rattling some bones might!) Very best wishes. -- Diana -- Diana Diana's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7463 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31162 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
