[Dx4win] QSL Manager problem solved
Many thanks to all who responded. I followed the instructions and was surprised to find two entries (one for each of two years) showing H44MY's manager was/is OM2SA. I clicked on the second one, regardless, saved the info and then closed the program. When I reopened it, the correct QSL manager call was in the QSL Manager box on DX4WIN. I'm not sure why going through that process helped, especially as the only QSL manager listed was OM2SA, but it did and I have learned, especially in regard to computers and software, NEVER to look a gift horse in the mouth! Thanks, again, to all. It is a wonderful resource to have so many folks with so much knowledge and so willing to share it. Kinda reminds of amateur radio!!! 73, Karl, K1KO Virginia Beach, VA __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Problem with incorrect QSL manager info
Hi folks, I've run into a problem which I have no idea how to solve. Here's the situation: I worked H44MY for a new entity on 30M. Entered all the info I had and found out that the QSL manager callsign I put in the log was wrong. Tried to fix it, but although the program will allow me to enter another callsign in the QSL Manager box, when I save it nothing happens to change the QSL manager callsign. I've tried it on two machines, same problem. Same thing with deleting the QSO and then entering off-line -- no joy. Shut off the computer, restarted, still no joy. Ideas are MORE than welcome. I put the correct callsign (OM2SA) in the notes area, and that's fine, but it really ought to go into the QSL manager block, I would think. It would also make it a little easier when I print labels for the cards. Thanks, in advance, for your help and very 73, Karl, K1KO Virginia Beach __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Connection to DX4WIN via VE7CC AR USER -- Problem solved
First, many thanks to the many folks who responded to my initial question. As is often the case there could have been any one of several issues causing the problem, and various people pointed these out. Each was checked carefully but unfortunately, to no avail. Jim, AD1C, in his usual workman-like way, suggested that I check the help files on his node, especially those pertaining to connecting via VE7CC AR User. I checked it out and found that, as a result of my various computer problems which resulted in my reloading the AR User program, I had neglected to turn on the TELNET feature. Imagine that, all I did was reload the program anew and the (()*)()&& computer didn't know what I wanted it to do Thanks, Jim, and all the others. I will now slip back into my cave and ponder the why the world hates me ;-) 73, Karl, K1KO __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] correct command to use TCP with DX4W and the VE7CC ARuser program
Hi folks, Sorry to be a bother again, but I've again managed to lose the correct command to use DX4WIN with the VE7CC User program. Here's what I have: VE7CC CC-Cluster>local-TCP,127.0.0.1:7300 When I load the VE7CC User program and connect it, I should be able to click on this line in the DX4WIN.TCP file and have it connect. It's done it before, but it won't now. Everything else is working as advertised. If you can straighten me out (at least about this!!), I'd appreciate it. [Dx4win] How to remove confirmed flags???
I'm in the process of trying to take my current DXLOG and after making a couple of spare copies, remove the confirmed flags (card in hand AND LOTW), but I can't figure out how to do it. I have sneaking feeling that it may not even be possible as one would be unlikely to want to do anything like that and that it could be catastropic (or as catastrophic as anything in a hobby can be, anyway) if it happened accidentally. Anybody have any idea how (or if) this can be done?? thanks and 73, Karl, K1KO ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win
[Dx4win] Typo in QSL manager box
Good morning, all... I goofed in putting in a manager's callsign and didn't realize it until after it was done. Unfortunately, I have several Qs with the station in question, and the goof went into each one's manager block. Anybody know how to correct the thing and make it stick? If I correct in one QSO, or just delete the manager's call, save the changes, etc., I still get the same manager's call because it's in all the other records, too. 73, Karl, K1KO
[Dx4win] Print Labels
Hi Guys... Anybody know how to avoid having addresses on "Manager Address" labels avoid printing onto the next label to the right side when the address is quite involved. Good example: Nigel Cawthorne, G3TXF, has about four or five bits and pieces of address and they cause the printing to move off the right side of the label. The fact that all the words aren't on the right label is only minimally problematic; the real problem is that those words wind up on the label to the right, rendering it illegible. I'd appreciate any info you might have about this. Thanks, in advance, Karl, K1KO Virginia Beach

[Dx4win] Problems entering new country
Hi Everyone... First of all, Happy Holidays (whichever one(s) you and yours celebrate)!! Tried to enter St Barthelemy (FJ) into the countries database on DX4WIN (Ver 7.03.??) and ran into some problems. 1. Don't know the ITU zone (ought to, but don't)...but that's the easy one of the problems 2. Followed the directions from the manual for entering the new country and everything went as expected until I got to the part (middle of page 121 of the printed manual) where it says, "Now switch from the 'Details' tab to the 'Mappings' tab. Go to the pull-down menu and select 'Mappings' and then 'Add.' Five fields shoud appear under the 'Mappings' tab" Those five fields are there, but there is no labeling of them. Tried to more or less reset the whole thing by getting out of everything, going back and doing it all over, but no joy.I have not a clue why this happened...If you can help, PLEASE DO!!! I guess I'll have to wait until I get the answer on the first question before I'll know what happens after I get it!! 73, Karl, K1KO Virginia Beach

I checked my log and found the same issue. I download from LOTW regularly and have no reason to believe that I was not in their log (especially three times on the same day -- 20, 15, and 10M). Didn't realize the Qs weren't QSLd as I have already confirmed 3X on those bands. Hu???!!! AD1C, any idea what's going on with this???? 73, Karl, K1KO Virginia Beach

Good Afternoon, all I'm getting ready to make a prodigous DXCC submission (991) cards and about 200 or so LOTW and I've run into a problem Can someone tell me either where I can find the info (tried already, couldn't find it) or explain to me the process of putting the "submitted" flags on the QSOs to be submitted and then later changing the submitted flags to "checked?" [Dx4win] Problem interfacing with DX nodes
Below you will find my original message about a problem with DX4WIN and the cluster nodes. I'm thrilled to tell you that Larry Gauthier, K8UT, came up with the solution. He emailed me tonight (Thursday) and within about one minute all was back to normal!! Here's the solution: Ensure that the spot colors under file >preferences> packet 2 ARE NOT DUPLICATED. I had made priorities 7,8, and 9 the same font and background colors. I changed 7 and 8 to be a slightly different font color and everything is functioning correctly. I'm not sure why that created a problem, but the problem surely disappeared after I changed the colors! Thanks again to Larry and also to Will, WC2L, who offered a couple of suggestions also. 73, Karl, K1KO Virginia Beach Original Email to the Reflector... I have run into a problem with DX4WIN and interfacing correctly with DX nodes. It is not particularly straightforward, but I will try to explain it clearly and as succinctly as possible. In a nutshell, the problem is that I am not getting DX spots as they become available on the node. I do receive announcements, time hacks (when there have been no dx spots for 9 minutes), and talk messages (whether to me or to others). I use the macros in the "packet window" of DX4WIN, as shown below: 1. SH/DX|SH/DX/10%M (obviously, to show DX spots) 2. NA Only|set/filter doc/pass k,ve1,ve2,ve3,co,vp9,c6 %M (to filter out spots on all bands from other than the countries with the listed prefixes) 3. NE Only|set/filter dos/pass me,nh,vt,ma,ri,ny,pa,nj,md,de,va,wv,nc %M (to filter spots from other places than the states shown in the US) 4. 160 Only| set/filter dxbm/pass 160%M (to filter out spots other than on 160 during 160M contests) 5. FLTS OFF| set/filter doc/off %M (to turn off all country filters) 6. WWV|SH/Wwv/2%M (to show the last two WWV reports) 7. K1KO|K1KO%M (to "connect" with the various nodes). I realize that everyone reading this understands what these macros will do, but I wanted to show clearly the format I have put them in. I'm pretty certain they're correct, but if you see a problem with any or all of them, please let me know -- that could easily be the progenitor of all the other problems. Those problems include the following: 1. If I have all filters turned off or have just the 160M filter or just the NE filter on, when I send the show/dx/10 macro (or type it in), I get an error message from the node. It flatly will NOT send the dx spots in response to the command. Neither do I get any DX spots as they are spotted. I will, however, get the "keep the circuit open" time hack after nine minutes have passed. 2. If I have the NA filter only turned on, the sh/dx macro will allow the node to send me the ten dx spots, as you would expect, but I still do not get the spots as they are spotted. 3. The sh/wwv/2 macro always works correctly, regardless of the settings of any or all of the filters. Clearly something is amiss. I occasionally had these problems prior to installing the newest DX4WIN update, so I doubt that it is the issue. This same thing happens regardless of which node I connect to. I have removed and reinstalled the macros two or three times without any affect. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled DX4WIN once, again without affect. I have run to ground everything I can think of which may be causing these problems and so far, as Dizzy Dean said, I should have stood in bed. Please help. Any ideas will be gratefully accepted and acted on. This has reached the point that I am significantly frustrated and close to being angry, which means it's REALLY getting in the way of having fun chasing DX; that is, to me at least it's a VERY SERIOUS problem that is driving me nuts (however short a trip that drive may be!!). Thanks, in advance for your assistance (and just for reading my ranting...if you've gotten this far, that is!). 73, Karl, K1KO

[Dx4win] .tcp file
Another question: wanted to put three or four particular internet nodes at the top of the list to make them easier to find when I log on. I have the preferences set to "expert," which apparently isn't completely true!!! Closed the program, went to my computer>program files>dx4win703>save>dx4win.tcp, which brought up the list of nodes. found each of the nodes I wanted at the top, highlighted them (one at a time), chose "cut", went the to top of the file, hit enter to create an open line, and pasted the node info in. Then I saved the file, restarted the program, and when I went to the node list to sign on, it was as if I had done nothing. Did the same process again, shut the computer all the way down and then fired it back up, started DX4WIN, same thing --- as if I had done nothing whatever with the .tcp file. Anybody have any ideas as to why it didn't work Thanks, in advance, Karl, K1KO

[Dx4win] re Global changes for confirmations
Thanks to all who responded. I decided to save a copy of the log (always a smart move, I think), and hen did the search (F8) for UPL CNFM marked Y, then to QSO|Multiple QSOs Operation|Set Confirmed Flag|Yes. Worked like a champ, which is usual, it seems with DX4WIN. Incidentally, one gent, Dick Flanagan, pointed out that have both flags set would make it more difficult to determine which confirmed QSOs were only on cards and/or which were only on LOTW. He's absolutely correct, of course, so when I saved the log prior to the global confirmed routine, I made two copies: one on the flash drive for the log as it was prior to the operation and, one which is in a file marked "dx4win UNTOUCHABLE" (for obvious reasons). I found that there appears to be no difference in the DXCC report from the log after doing the global confirmed operation, so I'll probably go to the "untouchable" file, and save it back into the "SAVE" directory as K1KOlog after changing the current one to another name: oldK1KOlog, or something equally innovative. Thanks VERY much for all the help. Very 73, Karl, K1KO Virginia Beach, VA

[Dx4win] Macro Commands for MMTTY interfaced with DX4WIN
Hi -- I've been trying to find a complete list of macro commands for MMTTY when interfaced with DX4WIN. I have found a list of commands for MMTTY, but there are commands there which do not seem to work as advertised in DX4WIN and other commands which were in the "canned" macros in DX4WIN but are not explained or documented (as far as I've been able to tell, at least). [Dx4win] Keying Issues with MMTTY via DX4WIN
Hi... Wonder if anyone could point me the correct direction to solve this problem. I recently got a microkeyer and everything is working pretty well. Only problem has to do with trying to get the mmtty "interface" in DX4WIN to work properly. I have, to the best of my understanding, got all the parameters set correctly, and I can use MMTTY by itself without any difficulty, via the microkeyer. When I try to use DX4WIN with the RTTY "interface," the radio goes into the transmit mode and remains that way until it is turned off. There is no "diddling" of the RTTY signal, just a solid tone as though it were CW keydown.
