[Elecraft] KPA500 + KPAK3AUX
Just checking as I'm about to lay my hands on a 2nd hand KPA500. I'd like the amp to follow my K3 so I need the KPAK3AUX cable. However the AUX DB15 on the K3 is already in use for my microHAM SO2R controller. Am I correct in assuming that by using the supplied Y-cable in the KPAK3AUX kit, the amp and K3 will talk to eachother and that my m/H MK2R+ will keep on working as it does? Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Tuning noise
Hi Mark, I've recognized this noise after running the KX3 for 2 month or so, made more than 400 QSOs before I noticed it. Now that I know it is there I'll always hear it ! I asked Elecraft support and they confirmed it exists. I measured the noise on 10mtrs using the built-in audio dbV feature - it says 11 dbV above noise (no antenna connected). Thats a bit too much I think. I'm also pretty sure that kind of noise wasn't as strong as now during all these QSOs I made before... Re: [Elecraft] K3 rig control/CW serial interface
Will, Sure. It's called a regular DE9 straight-through serial extension cable. You probably already have one. The pins in the K3 RS232 port that would normally be connected to the PC's RTS and DTR outputs can be used for PTT and CW keying. Search the K3 owner's manual for ptt-key. 73, ~iain / N6ML On Sat, Dec 1, 2012 at 1:15 PM, aa...@aol.com wrote: Is there an interface commercially available that combines CW keying and K3 rig control (from N1MM type software) into a single serial cable? Re: [Elecraft] K3 rig control/CW serial interface
I use N1MM this way with one standard serial cable for single-port rig control and PTT/CW keying, using a USB to Serial adapter manufactured by Gearmo that uses an FTDI chip set. I use just one of the four ports for the K3, the others are attached to other devices. http://www.amazon.com/FT4232HL-Professional-Retention-Certified-Microsoft/d p/B004ETDC8K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1354397714 My N1MM configure dialog shows COM2: Elecraft K3 and I've checked CW/Other Details. When I click Set I get a page with COM2 as its caption. In that dialog I set speed 38400 No parity, 1 stop bit, and choose CW for the DTR (pin 4) and PTT for RTS (pin 7). Then I set my K3 configuration menu PTT-KEY for RTS-DTR. In years past I would sometimes experience stuttering from CW keying near the end of a contest about the time I entered each QSO and went to WinKey as a result. In recent years I haven't found CW keying from a serial port, even with this USB adapter, to be a problem. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit and a reasonably modern (last couple of years) Intel chipset. 73 de Dick, K6KR -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of aa...@aol.com Sent: Saturday, December 01, 2012 1:16 PM To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] K3 rig control/CW serial interface Is there an interface commercially available that combines CW keying and K3 rig control (from N1MM type software) into a single serial cable? [Elecraft] KX3: iPad spectrum display
Having seen the KX3 producing a spectrum display (although without actual frequency information from the radio itself) on an Apple iPad at the Plano, TX hamfest, and finally getting my own KX3, I started looking for a way to do this myself. The free iSDR app will produce the display if you can get the KX3's I and Q outputs into the iPad via some sort of sound card device. Turns out that at least some of the iPads can accept USB input from some supported devices through an available camera adapter which has the input connector to the iPad on one end and a female USB connector on the other end of a short cable. The audio device I found that most everyone used was the Griffin Technologies iMic, but after getting one of the new 16Gig iPad's this afternoon, none of the stores in the Wichita area had even heard of the iMic let alone had one in stock. I had been using a TASCAM US-100 USB sound card to capture high quality stereo audio on my laptop rather than try to use the microphone input and for grins and giggles, I plugged it into the camera adapter and hooked up the KX3's I/Q cable to the stereo line input. Got no results until I remembered to turn on the I/Q outputs in the KX3's menu -- BINGO, works like a champ and with the super high resolution Retina display on the new iPad, it really looks nice. Now, I had to quit playing with it and put the iPad back on the charger which, unfortunately uses the same input as the camera adapter - LOL. Tomorrow I'll have to learn how to run Ham Log without a pigtail for the time being until the supplier gets back from his travels in a few days and I can order one. [Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement
Good Evening, The rain is falling steadily but at the rate of only an inch per day. Much less than last weekend. Even though the West Coast is being hit by a large storm most of it is south of me. I did have a frost last week so all of the bracken fern have turned brown and are starting to fall over. Now I can find the hidden wood I cut this summer. We are just past the mushroom season. I don't think it was too good this year because of the rapid transition from the dry season to the rainy and cold season. The ones I have found are already disintegrating. The haploid phase in the mosses is evident while I slog wood uphill. The fungus on those chunks of wood knocked me out for a while. My sinuses were so stuffed it was hard to breath. Antihistamines seem to help but staying away from the bark works best. Last week while bringing in wood after dark I spotted a pair of glowing eyes with my flashlight. Then another pair popped up, and the next, and the next, and the next. There were eight deer out there doing whatever it is they do all looking at me. I told them I was only getting wood and ignored them. No one ran off :) Propagation has been moderate to poor this week. I hope it improves by tomorrow. Re: [Elecraft] KX3: iPad spectrum display
I originally tried a stereo USB sound card but found that the iPad didn't recognize it. Ended up going the iSDR / Griffin iMic route, through the Apple camera connectivity kit, and it worked. I ordered the Griffin through Amazon because, as you have found, the local stories 1) never heard of it and 2) don't carry it. 73, --Andrew, NV1B maineware.net ..
