[expert] Compiling Nvidia-driver for SMP kernel
I have now tried several times to compile my Nvidia driver (from Nvidia) but no success. It always compiles and always fails to load the module into the kernel becouse on several unresulved symbols. So I think I do the same misstake over and over agin but what? I have tried: Unziping the tar and make. Unziping the tar and make SYSINCLUDE="/usr/src/linux/include" rpm --rebuild NVIDIA_kernel.rpm rpm --rebuild --target=i586 NVIDIA_kernel.rpm All build, all faild to load the module. I prefer to use rpm and if I get a success with tar I can easy include that into the RPM. I have: Linux-Mandrak 8.0 (kernel 2.4.3. as you didn't know that ;-) ) two P3 800Mhz (SMP) Nvidia Geforce2 Ultra (Asus7700) -- /EgU * Erik (EgU) Günther can be found at: Netch Technologies AB | www.netch.se/~erikg +46 (0)46 - 272 46 35 | [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Fortune: Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

[expert] Mandrake 8 && GLX (Nvidia)
Hi. First of all I installed LM8 last night and it worked fine for me. But acording to LM:s homepage LM8 cames with accellerated 3D for a number of vendors (Matrox, Nvidia, ATI(?)) but it doesn't seam to be aktivated. I started with adding Load "GLX" and Load "dri" to the XF86Config-4 (I'm useing X 4.0.3). Then GLX programs was able to run but slow. When I was useing LM7.2 I could use Nvidias driver and Nvidias GLX the all GLX programs was fast. (>100fps in gears, fullscreen) So where is the accellerated 3D in LM8 I didn't find any RPM that could indicate that it hade Nvidias drivers... Anyone knows what to do? PS I'm haveing a SMP mashine with two 800 P3 and Nvidias Geforce2 Ultra (Asus 7700) DS. -- /EgU * Erik (EgU) Günther can be found at: Netch Technologies AB | www.ludat.lth.se/~dat94egu +46 (0)46 - 272 46 35 | [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Fortune: And tomorrow will be like today, only more so. -- Isaiah 56:12, New Standard Version

[expert] NVidia && 2.4.2 fail
Hi I'm trying to compile NVidias driver for my Asus7700 card and I have LM 8.0b (with kernel 2.4.2). On top of that I have two processors (SMP). First of all when doing rpm --recompid NVIdia-kernel-0.9-769.src.rpm it works fine but it dosen't add "-D__SMP__" or "-DCONFIG_SMP" when compiling. And ofcause when installing it fails big time. missing tons of symbols. Then I tried to force to adding of one of the SMP defines. Still the same result. What do I do wrong? BTW I hope Mandrake includes DRI-drivers from NVidia and Matox in LM8.0. Not activated by default but when the user ask for them. -- /EgU * Erik (EgU) Günther can be found at: Netch Technologies AB | www.ludat.lth.se/~dat94egu +46 (0)46 - 272 46 35 | [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Fortune: The fact that boys are allowed to exist at all is evidence of a remarkable Christian forbearance among men. -- Ambrose Bierce

[expert] libpng error: Call to NULL read function
Hi I'm having som truble with libpng. I have installed nautilus 1.0 but can't run it because it says: $ nautilus libpng error: Call to NULL read function Segmentation fault This problem is not only for nautilus I have som other programs that says the same error message and dies. So what is the problem? and how do I fix it? I started with LM7.2 and installed the packege found on rpmfind.net for Mandrake Cooker when thay wasn't compiled for GLIB2_2. Those package did I compiled my self (rpm --rebuild). -- /EgU * Erik (EgU) Günther can be found at: Netch Technologies AB | www.ludat.lth.se/~dat94egu +46 (0)46 - 272 46 35 | [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Fortune: In the days when Sussman was a novice Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6. "What are you doing?", asked Minsky. "I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe." "Why is the net wired randomly?", inquired Minsky. "I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play". At this Minsky shut his eyes, and Sussman asked his teacher "Why do you close your eyes?" "So that the room will be empty." At that momment, Sussman was enlightened.
[expert] aurora doesn't remont / rw
Hi I have a SMP mashine (P3 800) that crached last night and started to reboot. But for some unknown reason (for me anyway) aurora didn't remount the rootpartision rw and ofcause faild to start and faild to start any other program. Why dosen't aurora try to remonte root-partions? and what do I do about it? The reason that my mashine vrached is probobly that I tried the new NVIDIA driver (0.9-767). The mashine do boot in "failesafe"-mode bat ofcause in singel-CPU mode. But the aurora isn't used in "failsafe"-mode. -- /EgU * Erik (EgU) Günther can be found at: Netch Technologies AB | www.ludat.lth.se/~dat94egu +46 (0)46 - 272 46 92 | [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Fortune: On the eighth day, God created FORTRAN.
