[expert] rpm/deb files

2001-02-03 Thread Ted Wager

Hi..
Can anyone tell me
If I convert a .rpm to a .deb file will the .deb file find it's dependencies
as a normal .deb file will..
Is there a way to view the contents of a .rpm and a .deb file as you can with a
.tar file or a way to strip the .deb or rpm file down so as to see the contents
without installing it ??

localhost ..I had it set to localhost and certain isp's woould not
accept the mail as soon as I changed it was ok

Hi..
Did you use the mkbootdisk command or use the create bootdisk from the
install screen??
I found on an earlier the installscreen bootdisk did not work but the
mkbootdisk was ok....
You can always copy /etc/lilo to /root and create a bootdisk from that or
if you have reconfigured the kernel by doing a make bzdisk

Hi Till...
Thanks for the reply
I could send the mail to a file and print from it...This was late at night
,,I shut down the machine and when I rebooted next day all was well...I can
run the printer and print from any application.
I do much prefer cups from the old print system and my dj610
will now shine.
All in all I am really pleased with Mandrake 7.2...The mailer and knode
exceed anything else I have used
Perhaps other distros will take heed and try to reach the standards Mandrake
is setting
Many congrats to you and the Mandrake team..

Hi
If you are meaning the amateur radio packet you will need the ax25 utils
package and howto's...All the docs atre in there. If you have a supported
soundcard there is no need to go for a Baycomm unit. With the s/card you may
have to build an interface` but it is quite a simple circuit...

uname -a to get the kernel version then
mkbootdisk --device /dev/fd0
Assuming you use fd0 ..

Hi..
Thanks for the info...I edited out the -p and on shutdown it tells m
Starting halt~ /etc/rc.d/rc0.d/S01halt~ call me as "rc.halt " or "rc.reboot"
please
  [FAILED]

It does seem to shutdown ok though as I get no error messages on reboot.

Thanks to all for the info..
This shutdown is basically what I do..The scrolling stops after abt 3 minutes
and then I power down...
I have run SuSe, Slackware, Debian on this partion in the past and not one of
these has exhibited this tendency...

[expert] shutdown..

2000-03-21 Thread Ted Wager

Hi..
When I do a shutdown -h now the system shutsdown the various file
systems and then says system is halted..After this mine says..stopping all md
devices, the screen then is filled with columns of scrolling numbers like
d3>][]Could anyone tell me how to avoid this..
It does not seem to affect the shutdown as I do not get a warning message on
reboot..I tried a sync sync before shutdown but it made no difference..
