OT: PLEASE can ANYONE help - Blind Kitten Very Sad
Please forward and cross-post to anyone you think might be able to help, thank you -- I am looking for a special home for a blind kitten. He was unfortunately born with no eyes. His mom tends to ignore him to care for her other kitten his litter mate is off playing with the others. He is a barn cat and unfortunately I just can't take him in right now. I already have 4 of my own my hubby would shoot me if I brought home another one. The kitten is starting to wander it's heart breaking to see him bumping into things. He wanders around the horses when we aren't there I'm afraid he is going to be stepped on. This little guy just needs someone to give him alittle extra TLC so he can adapt to this world he cannot see. I would prefer an indoor home so he is sheltered from the Big Outdoors If I can't find him a home, I am going to have to have him humanely euthanized, which I am prepared to do, but would like to see him in a loving home instead. Hi Hideyo, Teresa says he'll be okay where he is until I get there. (actually, they still aren't sure he's a he yet) and I will end up keeping him as long as the rest of the crew warms up to him. I will have my vet check him over and test for FIV/FeLV and then I'll see how well he does with the crew. It won't be the first kitten I've rescued - last year I rescued a tiny little black boy from a co-worker's back yard - named him Solo since he was the only kitten (mom was a feral). He was born without his upper eyeLIDS, and when my vet neutered him, she did some cosmetic surgery and formed eyelids out of some extra skin below each eye. Now he thinks he's just the cutest little Cat's Meow... Kat, I hope he's okay until you get there to rescue him, there's no way they can take him in? After all, her husband shouldn't object, they know they won't be keeping him now. Did you talk with Teresa about trapping that momma cat and getting her spayed? She sounds like she has some compassion for their predicament, after all, she did post about wee little winky. (I have a few choice words for her husband, but I'll censor myself!). That's wonderful about Solo's successful cosmetic surgery! You must have a wonderful vet. Teresa says the horses don't stay near the barn except for feeding, and the kitten doesn't venture too far (stays mostly around the d-g house that's set up for the mom-cat). And during feeding, someone is always there to keep an eye on the little one - and they try to supplement the mom's milk with KMR. The mom cat is a feral barn cat, and they do see him nurse from her, so if Teresa brings him home there will be less feeding, less interaction with people, etc. I'm going to see if there are any low cost spay clinics in her area so she/they can get the mom-cat spayed. Keep your fingers and paws crossed. He was born without his upper eyeLIDS, and when my vet neutered him, she did some cosmetic surgery and formed eyelids out of some extra skin below each eye.
