Re: [Flexradio] [FlexRadio] Re: Flex 3000 Freezes with v2.4.4

2012-09-12 Thread py1ro
 Hi guys,
I had the same problem and I´m using a PC with XP 32 bits. I had to
revert back to 2.3.5. I noticed many of the freezes happened at the
precise moment when a Skype message arrived. But there were also
appearantly unrelated freezes. I should have disabled internet
alltogether to see if that mattered, but didn´t hink of it till I had
reverted to 2.3.5
Will give it some time and try 2.4 later

If you are seeing DPCs like that and you are running an antimalware (virus)
program with real time protection be sure to investigate that as the possible
cause of your DPCs. I found that Malwarebytes was causing my problem. After
eliminating that and using only Microsoft Security Essentials, I have no DPCs
over 300 microseconds and no problems with PSDR freezing or losing sync.

2012-09-12 Thread Ed Wilson
Rich,

Thanks for the info.

I am currently using Avast anti-virus software (I was previously using McAfee
which did result in some issues) and that product did not give me any problems
with DPCs before I upgraded to 2.4.4. That is on my list of possible culprits,
however. I am now running a test with LatencyMon to see if I can identify
exactly what is causing the long DPC. I ran the system all night, but a Windows
restart after an automatic upgrade caused me to have to start over again today.

Alex,

After installing v2.4.4 on my Win 7/32 system (Flex 5000), I started
experiencing "freezes" every one to two hours, even under "Safe Mode
Level 2". I had not experienced this problem with 2.3.5 running the
"legacy" driver. The Firewire applet showed that I was getting at
least one DPC of over 50,000 microseconds when the freezes occurred.

I tried disabling various applications that were running with PowerSDR
to no avail. I finally went back to review recent posts on
this list and noted that Neal Campbell, our local computer guru,
suggested that we try using the driver included with Windows 7 instead
of the "legacy" driver. I did that yesterday afternoon and let the
system run overnight with no freezes, so it appears that the problem
may have been solved, at least for my Firewire card. I also returned
to "Normal Mode"

before I ran the test overnight which should improve latency performance.

I played a YouTube video while PowerSDR 2.4.4 was running this morning
to replicate your issue and everything ran fine for me.

Best of luck in solving your problem!

Hi Ted,

it happened to me also and I had to do a complete rollback to 235.
My setup: Flex-3000, Win7 64bit, SONY VAIO notebook with firewire port.

I have no issues at all with PSDR 235, although it runs on the Flex
driver with "safe mode 3". There is a latency issue, as I have to have
AnitVir firewall and some other programs running in the background. My
crash test is to have PSDR running and to look at a video clip on
YouTube at the same time. 235 runs, 244 freezes.

I had a direct contact with my FlexRadio representative here in
Germany and he told me the same everybody does: set "safe mode 2",
take the old legacy driver... nothing works... rollback then...

I think that the FlexRadio programmers should rework their firewire

OK , Dumb question . When you gentlemen talk about running a different
fire wire driver I get a little confused. I am thinking the fire wire
driver is some software in the computer to operate the fire wire card in
side the computer is that correct ? If so how do I find out what fire
wire card I have and what software is running it ? or what software to
switch to ? Just so that I am clear we are not talking about the fire
wire cable but the computer fire wire card and software. Mann I am
gonna learn this stuff yet ! John Molenda kb2huk

Me too - had to revert to 2.3.5.  Any insight into what the problem is here?

Using 64 bit E7.

Re: [Flexradio] [FlexRadio] Re: Flex 3000 Freezes with v2.4.4

2012-09-11 Thread Ed Wilson
I spoke too soon :(

I had another freeze this morning after I wrote the email below. I experienced
a DPC of about 39,000 microseconds after running all afternoon yesterday and
overnight with DPCs less than 500 microseconds.

I am now testing a driver supplied by the manufacturer of my Firewire card
(LSI) and will let you know how it goes.

Alex,

After installing v2.4.4 on my Win 7/32 system (Flex 5000), I started
experiencing "freezes" every one to two hours, even under "Safe Mode Level 2".
I had not experienced this problem with 2.3.5 running the "legacy" driver. The
Firewire applet showed that I was getting at least one DPC of over 50,000
microseconds when the freezes occurred.

I tried disabling various applications that were running with PowerSDR to no
avail. I finally went back to review recent posts on this list and noted that
Neal Campbell, our local computer guru, suggested that we try using the driver
included with Windows 7 instead of the "legacy" driver. I did that yesterday
afternoon and let the system run overnight with no freezes, so it appears that
the problem may have been solved, at least for my Firewire card. I also
returned to "Normal Mode"
before I ran the test overnight which should improve latency performance.

I played a YouTube video while PowerSDR 2.4.4 was running this morning to
replicate your issue and everything ran fine for me.

Best of luck in solving your problem!

Hi Ted,

it happened to me also and I had to do a complete rollback to 235.
My setup: Flex-3000, Win7 64bit, SONY VAIO notebook with firewire port.

I have no issues at all with PSDR 235, although it runs on the Flex driver with
"safe mode 3". There is a latency issue, as I have to have AnitVir firewall and
some other programs running in the background. My crash test is to have PSDR
running and to look at a video clip on YouTube at the same time. 235 runs, 244
freezes.

I had a direct contact with my FlexRadio representative here in Germany and he
told me the same everybody does: set "safe mode 2", take the old legacy
driver... nothing works... rollback then...

I think that the FlexRadio programmers should rework their firewire driver to
run on our systems also or we will miss all the updates in the future.

BTW it you need the rollback info, just mail me at dh...@darc.de
