Re: [ilugd]open office not working

2004-05-02 Thread Rajesh K Jha
Recently I re-loaded Redhat 9 on my system. The open office is not
working now though it shows in the programme files and when I click upon
any of its components it shows activity but does not open. Earlier it
was working fine. I was actively using Open Office.
I have tried reloading it from the installation CD but nothing happens.
It sits in the programme tray but does not open. I can see open office
writer icon too in the files that I had created earlier. Other office
programmes like Kword, abiword etc. are working fine.

Please help.
Thanks,
Rajesh K. Jha

Re: [ilugd] How to do Real audio, video streaming through Mplayeror XMMS-Helix works.

2004-03-23 Thread Rajesh K. Jha
Thanks, I tried Helix and now I can listen to the streaming audio at
least in the real audio and video format.

Inspired by LL's suggestion, I had tried to install the VLC but I ran
into trouble. It started asking me to install mozilla 1.1(probably this
version ). When I downloaded mozilla and tried installing it, my system
refused saying that a higher version is already installed. I am still
interested because there are still some streaming audio, video formats
which do not open with Konqueror. Any idea and help regarding why I am
facing this problem in installing VLC?

[ilugd] auto login to 24online Client.

2004-01-12 Thread Rajesh K. Jha

Hi,
I log on to internet using 24hour online client. I have to give my
password and username each time I want to connect. Using the
24houronline option for auto log in does not work. At my home, a few
persons don't feel comfortable putting in login and password to access
internet. Is it possible to create some icon on the desktop which can be
clicked for connecting to internet immediately without having to type
username and password.
Thanks,

Re: [ilugd] hotmail to pop

2003-09-29 Thread Rajesh K. Jha
I installed hotWayd and tried to use it to download Hotmail to the
evolution email client. However, at the stage the evolution starts
working, it asks for password which I supply ( the password I use to
access my hotmail account). It says wrong pass word/ authentication
error.I have followed the instructions for using the software hotWayd.
I don't understand why in the server name ( which I have set to
'localhost', I tried with the IP address of my computer too without much
success) the evolution screen displays [EMAIL PROTECTED] or
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or whatever I set as the server name in the evolution
setting for hotmail.I faced the same problem while using yahoopops.
Thanks,
Rajesh K. Jha

Hey I remember using another one called gotmail. Does a similar kinda
thing. The name does explain it!

afaik gotmail downloads mail from hotmail and pushes it either to a smtp
server or saves it in the user's maildir/mbox file. on the other hand,
this HotWayd seems to act as a pop3 server, so that in mozilla-mail, or
evolution yu'll specify the pop3 server as localhost and run HotWayd in
the background, something like YahooPOPs on windows, but seems better
 than that.

atleast it can installed on one server, and all the clients can connect
to it and download mails on their individual machines whether it is
 windows or linux, and outlook/mozilla-mail/evolution/kmail/balsa
 whatever pop3 reader.

[ilugd] Problem starting RH9

2003-09-12 Thread Rajesh K Jha
HI,
I have been using Red Hat 9 along with Windows 98 for some time now. It was working
perfectly alright. However, my windows part was showing some problem and I reinstalled
the windows98. After reinstallation, my linux (grub starter) stopped showing. I
'upgraded' my installation. I got back my grub boot. It starts all the processes but
finally when it comes to starting the actual programme I get a message like this:

Kernel 2.4.20-8smp on an i686
INIT: Id 4 respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id 5 respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id 6 respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

I leave it like that for 5 minutes but nothing happens.

I have been working in linux for some time now and have got lots of working files,
document and mail etc. in it and so I don't want to reinstall the linux since I will
lose all my data.

Please Help.

Thanks in anticipation,

[ilugd] Number of Users on my RH9 system?

2003-09-02 Thread Rajesh K. Jha
I am using Red Hat 9 and connect to the internet through the cable. I see in the
GTKrelm ( the programme which shows you the detail of processes , net connection etc)
that there are 3, sometimes 4, occasionally 2 also, users connected to my computer. My
computer is at home and it is not networked except that it is connected through the
LAN to get the internet connection. In my computer, I have created 2 users. What could
be the reason? Who could be the users? Can somebody be logging in to my computer
without my knowledge? To the best of my knowledge, I have not set up any servers etc
unless something comes by default while setting up RH9.

[ilugd] Connecting to internet through LAN, Modem

2003-06-25 Thread Rajesh K. Jha
I am having problems in connecting to internet. I have a LAN connection and after
getting advice from the mailing list, I did download from the net and set up the
24online client. However, it does not ask for my password or username. The system does
actiavte the etho but can't connect to internet.
Somebody suggested PC Quest issue of March 03, but I am unable to get it in the
market, the internet does not give you the CD (the site of PC quest has some
descriptions but no way to download the client). I am in Munirka, if someone in South
Delhi can help me with PC quest of March 03-either in purchasing or just borrowing for
a day.
I have a motoral modem for which again I downloaded and executed the driver from net.
Now the system does recognise the modem but is unable to initialise it, despite so
many trials. My modem is on com port 3.
Any help on connecting to the internet through LAN or Modem?

Pls. give detailed instruction since I am a newcomer to Linux and not a programmer
either.

[ilugd] help needed for LAN, saving on C drive.

2003-06-17 Thread Rajesh K. Jha
I just installed linux red hat on my computer. I am having some problem understanding
the way Linux works. Some specific problems:
1. I have installed Linux on my E drive (partition). If I want to save my work done in
Linux on C drive which has Window-98 running on it, is it possible? How do I do it?
2. I have a LAN connection for internet. How do I get 24online cyberclient for the LAN
Card installed on my computer. Links, files available?
3. Although, my sound card is working, it does not play songs in MP3 format. Any way
out.

I am not a programmer, simply a user who wants to switch over to Linux.
Any help on the topics listed above?
thanks,
