[JAWS-Users] Chrome & Jaws 17
Howdy All, When using Chrome & Jaws 17 if you press the, Alt key, this will open a menu list of options / settings, for lack of a better term. When you arrow down this list pressing enter or right arrowing into another list of options will usually work but, with Jaws 17 pressing enter on the, Settings option, doesn't work like it does with Jaws 16 If you want to access the, Settings option, arrow up / down to it, & turn the virtual cursor off with the, Insert / Jaws Key + Z, keystroke, & press enter You will now be able to tab through the settings options. If you are on the, Settings option, you can also press enter on it, then immediately turn the virtual cursor off , which will also allow you to tab through the settings options. HTH Take care. [JAWS-Users] decided on laptop, thanks
Thanks to all that made recommendations. Price being the main force, I decided on a special black Friday hp for wal-mart. Although a basic model it should do everything that I need for $199. I only will use it for email, internet and MS word. Later maybe watching a movie. I did decide that I wanted the windows 10 system. Why spend $50 more for an old, but new, windows 7 machine. I would have liked the bigger HD but I can make this one work. The better HP system from Staples is a notebook not a laptop and I like the full size keyboard. Wow good grief! You would make a great lawyer ay? So where were you the night of Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 6:34 PM? Thank you for this, and now I will go make a play list for beats for thanksgiving! -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B Sent: Wednesday, November 25, 2015 6:34 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] music stuff and more. Howdy Kimsan, Here you go! A Happy& safe Thanksgiving to all! From: Scorpio Forever I wrote this tutorial up some time ago for someone else, and, given the currently circulating thread of Winamp playlists, I thought I would post it. Basically, it deals with creating and managing playlists using Winamp and Jaws. I'm sure there are no end of ways to create and manage playlists, so, keep in mind that the below instructions are of my own method, and I've been using the below method for quite some time. Hope people get a use out of it. ***Begin Tutorial*** Believe it or not, it's easier to create a playlist with Winamp, than it sounds. First, go to your desktop, or where ever you keep the Winamp shortcut, and enter on it. Once the Winamp window opens, control+tab twice to get to the playlist editor. If you find that you've used the control+tab keystroke twice, and Jaws didn't say playlist editor, then that means you have the playlist editor closed. You can open it in one of two ways. You can press the keystroke of alt+E, or you can press alt+F, then arrow down to playlist editor and enter on it. I think you'll find the alt+E keystroke is easier. Smile. In any case, once Jaws reports that the playlist editor is opened, control+tab up to the playlist editor. Now, this is going to sound weird, but go with me on this. Once you land in the playlist editor, press control+A to highlight everything, then press delete. Don't worry if Jaws doesn't say anything, what you've essentially done is delete any tracks that were in there from the last time you used Winamp to listen to something. Unfortunately, Winamp likes to leave residual ghost images of files it's played in the last instance, and so, in order to create a clean playlist, you have to delete what was previously there. So, now that you've done that, press the letter L for lists, and this will open up an open dialog box. Those of you familiar with downloading from send space, or saving as and the like, will be familiar with this dialog box. When this dialog box opens, you'll land on the filename edit box. Do a shift+tab to go to the file list window just above the filename edit box. Now, depending on where you last took Winamp, you won't know where you'll be in the file list, so a good rule of thumb is to press the backspace key seven or eight times until Jaws stops talking. When he does, do a say line command with insert+up arrow, and Jaws should read out, "Not Selected My Documents". This means you're on your desktop, and you can now go to the folder where the files are that you want to play. So, if the files are in a folder three levels deep into your my documents folder, let's call it Thea's audio files, you would press the spacebar to select My Documents, press the enter key to go into that folder, then arrow or find the folder titled Thea's Personal Files, highlight it, then press enter. Once in that folder, find the next folder, called Thea in Hawaii, enter on it, and finally go to Thea's audio files, and press enter. Be careful here, you don't want to make a common mistake that everyone makes, even me before I realized it, smile, do not touch any of the arrow keys, or the spacebar key, or anything on your keyboard until you've done a select all with control+A, and I'll explain later. Once you've done the control+A, tab to the open button in the dialog box, and press the spacebar to allow Winamp to place all the files you just selected into the playlist. There is an even easier way to create a playlist, if you aren't selective about what it is you're wanting to play, in other words, if you're not actually trying to create a playlist for a party, or just want some music playing in the background while you're cleaning house, or a book playing while you're knitting or something like that, you can just go to your desktop, without opening Winamp, navigate to the folder where the music files are that you wish to play, now, this could be a music album, or an audio book of some kind, and highlight it without going into the folder. Once you do this, press your applications key, which is generally the first key to the left of the right control key (*keep in mind your keyboard configuration my be different from other configurations*), and arrow down to "Play in Winamp", or press the letter P for playlist, and Winamp will open up and start playing the tracks in the folder from the beginning, and in alphabetic order. Re: [JAWS-Users] WIN 10 upgrade advice from our computer people
No need to be defensive! There are still several months during which it's freely available. Tech consultants aren't saying that you shouldn't upgrade. They're saying that most people would do well to wait a few months before doing so. The more one learns, the better equippped one is tohandunforeseen situations that may arise (for one reason or another). To some people, their printers and scanners are important tools so they may need to tread cautiously before trying to upgrade with them and/or get replacements that will work as well. -Original Message- From: Maria Campbell Sent: Thursday, November 26, 2015 1:16 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] WIN 10 upgrade advice from our computer people Agreed. [JAWS-Users] Jaws crash/pause update
Hello list, Well I just got off the phone with a senior Jaws escalation specialist. He called to get additional information on the Jaws crashing and/or pausing issues some of us are having with Jaws 16 and/or 17 and Windows 7 and/or 10. I know we have had several folks speaking of some or all of the above. Unfortunately only myself and one other person has reported this to Freedom Scientific as far as he knows of. The purpose of this post is to urge anyone having this issue (all or part) to contact Freedom Scientific by phone or email to report this issue. This will generate a case number and the team can then try to get at some similarities to begin to debug the issue. Again, and this has been said many times, if you don't report issues to freedom scientific and only do so on the list, remedies will not be made. So, you can let me know on list or off if you report. Best, Al For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] WIN 10 upgrade advice from our computer people
What works well for you may not necessarily work well for somebody else. When my sighted techie friend attempted to upgrade his Windows 7 desktop PC to Windows 10, the upgrade failed and he was forced to roll back to Win 7. So results may vary from system to system, and for most blind Windows users, especially those who do not have tech-savvy sighted help on hand to bail them out, it is probably advisable to wait awhile before upgrading to Windows 10. [JAWS-Users] music stuff and more.
I have a couple of questions which may or may not be related, or even relevant. I am running windows 7 and jaws 16. I am currently using winamp as my music program. But, since its no longer supported Im thinking of using something else. I have VLC on my computer, and it works fairly well, but I miss the enhancements that jaws scripts give to winamp. I also have a copy of windows media player on my hard drive, but I hate it with a passion, but I might be talked into updating it and trying it again. So any recommendations for a replacement for winamp? Second question, what are rapsody and spotify? Does one work better than the other with jaws? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Re: [JAWS-Users] I need directions to put Windows Live mail onWin10 and add Gmail to it.
Hi Mike, I have WLM on win10 laptop. Here is what you do. First, install Windows Live Mail 2012 on your computer. next, Go to the Google home page and create a Gmail account if you do not have one. Next, go back to WLM and press alt + F as in frank. Arrow down to options sub menu and press right arrow. Now, down arrow to email accounts and press enter. Next, press enter on new... Next, type in your email address and pass word, and make sure that automatically create the account is checked. Press enter on the Okay button. Now, close the ribbon and inter your email and password in the WLM edit fields. You will then get a message saying that it could not except your password. Here is what I had to do from here. Go back on line to your Gmail account on the Google page. Go to your in box. You will have a message that you will want to press enter on. The message will say that WLM does not pass Google's security standards, because Google does this for all clients, even Outlook. In this message, there is a link to enter on that says to ignore this and except your client. After you press enter, find where you need to press space bar. It will say except my client anyway. After you press space bar on that, close your on line Gmail account. Go back into WLM and re-enter your email address and password again. This time, finally, it will except your information. You see, Google is set to reject any client. So this is what you have to do, but after you get through this, your Gmail account will import into WLM and all will be well. Please ask me if you have anymore questions. Take care and have a great one.
