[JAWS-Users] Microsoft Edge
Having problems with Jaws announceing too much in Edge such as: entering navigation, exiting navigation, entering search, exiting search, entering form, exiting form, etc here’s how to fix this so it works like other browsers: turn off the automatic notification of web page positions in Microsoft Edge with the following steps. 1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser. 2. Press Insert+6, (the 6 on the alphabetic keypad’s number row), to open the “JAWS Settings Center”. 3. Press the down arrow, and then press the letter “s” to go to the Speech Verbosity tree view item, and press the right arrow to open it. 4. Press the down arrow once, and note which verbosity level you are using. 5. Press the down arrow again to “Configure Verbosity Levels”, and press the right arrow to open it. 6. Press the down arrow until you reach the verbosity level you are using and press the Spacebar to open the “Preferences” dialog box. 7. Press the down arrow until you reach the “Position Information” setting, press the Spacebar to uncheck it, and press Enter to close the dialog box. 8. Press the Enter key again to save the setting and close the “Setting Center”. After closing settings center, jaws will ask if you want to save the changes you’ve made! Wah lah! E-mail is golden!!! [JAWS-Users] mail app
Using jaws 2018.1805.33 ILM With the current build of windows 10 18 03 spring creators update Anyone still having problems with the mail app. Sometimes jaws will only read the subject of my messages and not the body. Sometimes when composing an email I can type a message but when I alt+tab to check what I’ve written it disappears. The mail app is very sluggish when I press enter on a message it opens, two minutes later jaws announces message body the number of links available then the text of the message. Sometimes the mail app won’t even open. All of this usually can be resolved by a full computer restart, but it all happens again! E-mail is golden!!! [JAWS-Users] jaws and Microsoft edge
It seems that with the recent build of jaws and the windows 10 spring creators update Microsoft edge has gotten usable with jaws. Jaws still says too much in edge Like entering navigation, and exiting navigation But I can put up with that as long as edge doesn’t unexpectably stop working like with internet explorer! SO I just uninstalled V60, ran the 52.X installer and updated to the most current one capable with the older version and am now am on Firefox Version 52.8.0. The same one I was on before trying the Quantum or whatever it's called. The other issue I was having with Firefox 60 and Jaws on The Old Reader: This is what I sent VFO: I am noticing with the latest Firefox 60 (ESR and standard version) when browsing down my list of RSS posts. Be it in a particular feeds entries, a folder created by me or even in the all posts view, when I click enter or press the spacebar to expand that particular entry to show the summary (this is in list view. Not full view) and then later wish to do the same for another RSS entry, Jaws doesnt appear to be able to accomplish this second task. Ive tried using the Jaws cursor, maximizing the window and then pressing enter or spacebar, tabbing to be sure Jaws focus isnt somewhere else, but nothing seems to work. Its basically pick one RSS entry and thats it. The only thing I can do to be able to select another RSS entry to view is do an entire page refresh. Which isnt a solution as once the refresh occurs, all previously unread posts are marked as read. In my case, The Older Reader is marked as my home page and I refer to it all the time. So this one bug is proving to be quite disruptive. I dont know if it has something to do with a virtual buffer focus or some other element, but I am not able to figure it out on my end. To be clear, this particular behavior is not present in prior versions of Firefox. I have been using the V 52.x ESR version before upgrading to v60 without this issue present. So anyway, in the same email response I pasted below, I got this note from the same tech: Also, I did see your other e-mail in which you mentioned a specific Web site. I did look at that Web site, but I found that it requires signing up for an account to see the issues. If you could provide us with a site with these issues that does not require signing up for an account, that would be very helpful. Ok... but as I specifically mentioned this website, it kind of defeats the purpose... Again, probably one of those things I'd have to call in to better demonstrate the exact problem, but I'm busy throughout the day and always on the phone, doubt I'd be able to do it any time soon. This is why I figured in part to just go back to V 52 and maybe wait for another Jaws or Firefox release with hopefully some more improvements. I've waited a few months, what's a couple of more weeks... As long as you don't mess with your profile on your system, then uninstalling and reinstalling any version of Firefox shouldn't be a big deal. That said, standard caveats of backing up and all that apply. Also, I do have a Firefox account for easier b

She'd also had JAWS, as did I last night, search for the word Options. JAWS said it was not there. This morning, after having read several List responses, I had JAWS search for the word Payment, And again, that was not there. My friend does not have Amazon Prime. Nor do I. There was a link for managing one's Prime Account, but this brought me no joy as a roundabout way of getting to Account or Payment Options Since I was told immediately that I did not have Amazon Prime. Here is what I see when I go to the Your Account Page: JAWS says there are 11 links. Your Account Amazon.com Your Account View Orders Choose Period: Open and recently shipped orders Continue Amazon Prime Manage Prime Membership Gift Cards Search Go Cart Your Account 1-Click Settings List & Registry Find a List or Registry Sign Out Help Home Legal Terms Several people said they could reach the Payment Options Link using IE11, JAWS 2010 and Windows 10. This is what my friend is using. But to test, this morning, I loaded IE11 and went back to Amazon. For me, it made no difference. I got the same page with the information copied above. I've gone to Amazon from the link on my desktop, as well as from a Google search, just in case that made a difference. It doesn't.. I wonder why some can access this and others of us cannot. Since email addresses change, and the expiration numbers on credit cards change every couple of years, or shipping addresses may change, we need access to the account information page. Admittedly it's got to be frustrating if results can differ, even when the operating system, browser and screen reader version are the same, but this is why I put this out on the JAWS Users' List to see if the problem my friend and I are having could be replicated. Thanks to those who responded, but if anyone is having similar issues, I'd like to know, and Amazon needs to be alerted so that they know how widespread the problem is. I installed the new JAWS 2018 update on both of my laptops, and many issues in windows 10 are fixed. The mail app is almost working perfectly. I get no repeats of words, and the new message I bring up reads right away. JAWS works great now, in the One note app. Also, in Edge, JAWS can now list the form fields, headings, and links. That helps a lot with Edge. You still cannot select text with the virtual PC cursor in Edge. JAWS 2018, with this update, works very well in the Windows Defender security center window. It is very snappy and it reads the information concerning the scan. I have noticed that action center works much better with JAWS as well, with this update. If you have any questions, please ask. Yes, I almost forgot. JAWS now works the best in Google Docs in Google Chrome browser. You do not need to use Firefox anymore to use Google Docs, sheets, and so on. Google Drive and docs are very snappy with this new update. Have a great one! With little to lose, I did a repair on this new version earlier today. The repair took about 4 times longer than the initial successful install but since doing this, the Windows 10 Mail program is almost working properly. On occasion I have to unload and reload both JAWS and Windows Mail and, for some reason, that seems to restore proper behavior on this Dell Desktop of recent manufacture. I would be interested if others with Windows 10 Mail issues find a repair of the latest update results in improvement. Editing/reading text in another application seems to result in loss of the virtual cursor position in the virtual viewer. This is more than mildly inconvenient when trying to take notes from a document, for example. Have others seen this, and is there a known solution? To do this you need to have the app data folder showing in your Users folder, the one named Kevin or whatever. open the Kevin folder, then App Data, now select and open Local, and do the same fowith the Microsoft folder. Now, scroll down and find the folder labeled Windows Live Mail, and either copy the entire folder, or open it and copy all of the contents from it, and paste this onto a flash drive or an external hard drive or something. When you get WLM set up on your new computer, just cop y any single files into the same folder on the new computer, and for any file folders that you copied, just copy the contents of these folders into the corresponding folders on the new computer, The folder names may vary slightly from one computer to the other, but they will be similar enough that you will be able to relate one to the other. AS for how your messages are displayed, you can always go into the View tab on the ribbon, and see how everything is set and make notes on this to be able to set the new computer up the same way. It absolutely annoys me to listen to someone telling the same story to five different people listen to that horrid stuff they call music and it isn't in my book, and then maybe get your issue solved to your satisfaction. I avoid it whenever possible and sit here tense and ready to toss anything at anything else when I must do it. Due to a hearing problem, hard to listen to something else while waiting. I feel like I am wasting time, even though I am now no longer working, and can waste time, I dislike doing it on something I dislike so much. I happen to be one of those persons, I hate sitting on hold, dislike the music and the advertisements, hate being transferred multiple times to finally get the right person. I'd love to have a person around who would do that kind of stuff for me, my late husband did mainly over the last years because I was working. I am not now but I want to just give up entirely after spending hours on such detritus. I want to order from the computer, communicate and walk away for a while. Given any choice at all I will use the computer over the phone for anything dealing with supposed customer support. Cousin loves the phone, thinks she gets something accomplished, I let her do it if at all possible and I spend time in another room. Re: [JAWS-Users] modes of communications (returning item)
I don't have a phone in my home either, this is the twenty-first century sorry Alexander Graham Bell but email is a better mode of communication! -Original Message- From: Rose Combs Sent: Saturday, July 18, 2015 9:16 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] returning item If one has placed an order on the computer and is trying to return it on the computer one should not have to use the phone. Some of us don't want to spend time sitting on hold, slogging through menus and spend an hour doing something they should be able to do in minutes. Customer service is, in my humble opinion usually so frustrating that I am tempted to have the phone taken out. Nothing worse than waiting and waiting for the correct person to assist and it happens all the time. Point being made is every part of a purchase or return should be accessible to everyone! Re: [JAWS-Users] trying to return an item to Amazon
the customer service email for amazon is cs-re...@amazon.com you should tell them the problem you are having with the return form and tell them you are using a screen reader. I just returned an instant video which had no sound. I explained I am not comfortable using the telephone and customer service chat is not good because chat crashes my computer. they promptly refunded my payment so they are good about returns, maybe they'll email you a return form along with a post paid mail label you can print out! -Original Message- From: Sherri Sent: Friday, July 17, 2015 4:31 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] trying to return an item to Amazon I got an item from Amazon which is defective. I cannot get Jaws to read the menu; thus, I cannot fill out the form. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you. [JAWS-Users] sophos virus removal tool
I tested this out I guess it’s good, it found no threats on my computer don’t know if I had any. just wanted to take this piece of software for a spin. it’s best used with the jaws cursor but you may need to flip flop to the virtual pc cursor at times. it’s best uninstalled with Revo when uninstalling with revo you need to force uninstall. after I uninstalled it , the start menu shortcut was left behind that can be deleted manually. My Vipre apparently ran out. I will deal with them early Monday morning. Now, my problem is to know if I still need to be sure to try to keep the 2014 or if the 2015 has been made JAWS friendly by now? I am not extremely savvy when it comes to using and configuring antivirus programs. Should I be getting the whole antispyware suite or just the anti-virus for best results? I need the best protection possible. It seems to me that Vipre Tech Support should be able to make sure all is configured okay. restore is accessible but I already tried that to restore to yesterday, but the restore failed.
