KR> deihl wheel fairings
Pete Fairings can be anything that add to the airodynamics of the plane. It can go over the landing gear legs to reduce drag etc. Wheel pants are the fairings over the wheels of your airplane which also reduce drag. However what parts you are actually wanting to buy from Deihl's Im not sure. You might want to send them a picture of your damaged parts listing what all you want to replace. That would help I think. > > Can someone please confirm my understanding. > >>Pete, >>You need upper and lower fairings for $100 US and 2 wheel pants for $160 >>US. > > the upper fairings go around the legs and are attached to the wing skins. > the lower fairings go around the lower legs and attach to the pants. > the pants are the aerodynamic teardrops that fit around the wheels. > > Pete > > > > > > ___ > Search the KRnet Archives at http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/index.jsp > to UNsubscribe from KRnet, send a message to krnet-le...@mylist.net > please see other KRnet info at http://www.krnet.org/info.html >

KR> Dragonfly Canopy
Can anyone tell me how wide you can go with the fuselage using the Dragonfly Canopy? There has to be a limit as to how far it can be distorted and still work? Thanks for the help.
KR> 2lb. Foam
I have a question for the list, what is the difference in the 2lb. foam you can buy from wicks or Aircraft Spruce and the stuff you can buy from the lumber company ? Thanks for your reply
KR> 2lb. Foam
Thanks to all who replied I have found a place close to home to buy the Last-A-Foam the factory is not to far from me. Probably 75 or 80 miles away. Now for the other question would a higher density foam be better or should I stick with the 2 lb. stuff ? - Original Message - From: "Mark Jones" To: "KRnet" Sent: Monday, December 18, 2006 2:11 PM Subject: RE: KR> 2lb. KR> 2lb. Foam
Thanks for the reply and I will stick with the 2lb. foam. This place is less than half of what wicks or Aircraft Spruce is on the same thing so its going to be much cheeper. 1"x4'x8' is only $22.81 a sheet and the 2"x4'x8' is $ 45.63 :) > Mark should agree with me on this and that's the higher density is > definitely more weight. KR> Foam
To anyone that is interested in the 2lb. Foam this is the data sheet and contact information is on the sheet. http://www.elliottfoam.com/p200datasheet.pdf Its a very good price and they will ship but you will have to call them about the shipping for full sheet's. UPS has limits on the size they will transport. This place is about 75 miles away from me so Im lucky, I can pick it up at the plant.
KR> Props
For what it's worth, it would seem to me that as the dia. increases so will the area within it. At some point there has to be a breakover point where it is better to have another blade. As the dia. increases so is the area of air being acted upon. There will be a given amount of thrust at a given power setting so rather than increase dia. to an unreasonable size you go with more blades which will act on a given amount of air the same as a larger dia. prop. Now what the break over point is depends on the total load of the prop. Everything is a contributing factor from the max HP of the engine and its available torque to turn the prop. To the load being moved to the lift of the wing. Everything, so its not a simple answer but it can be figured out. Just not by me, im no math whizz however you can find the area of the prop and you can find the amount of thrust it will produce with your engine and you can figure your max weight. So with a little math that im not good at you can find the max dia. prop you can swing without killing your engine. When the thrust of a given prop dia. is no longer enough and you have HP and Torque to spare, you can add a blade and get more thrust when you cant add to your dia. and do the same thing. At that point the bennifit is greater than the added drag. That is the way I see it anyway..
KR> clip
Larry can you tell me how long your grass strip is that your landing on in the videos. These are very good videos you had a very solid camera mount to get such good quality videos. Thanks for sharing them with us!
KR> question about glassing
Randy, You really need to get a good book on using glass and resin that tells you how to stipple it out so you dont have more resin than is needed. You just add weight not strength by having to much resin. Anything on Moldless composit construction for aircraft there are several authors out there with great information on building with foam fiberglass composits. I know from your posts your doing what you can but dont make a mess of it you have to remember to think light when building an aircraft!!!
KR> kr2forum.com
So what is the main reason for making a new site? The one's we use now seem to be just fine for my use, although I have never been able to use the past file search to find anything as well as I would like. I dont care either way as long as the information I need is out there and I can find it!!! That's the main idea of this whole thing and what we are now using seems to do that just fine. I have made my own file of past posts that are important to me for future use just in case things get all messed up. There is a lot of this information I would hate to loose as a builder it's worth it's weight in gold. Mark are you going to do away with this KR net in preference of the new one or what?
KR> Project
I have my eye on a project that was started many years ago that is in a hanger waiting to be finished. My question is if I purchace this project how should I go about getting it certified? Should I let on as though I have built the entire thing, having it inspected as I go form this point on or what? As I understand it, it is past the boat stage with the tail feathers built but not attached as well as one wing finished and the other ready to be covered. I dont know if there is very much documentation on what has been done but I will find all that out when I go look at the project. What do you guys think the best aproach would be for this type of project? Thanks for your reply
KR> Project
Thanks for your reply's, I was more worried about the documentation portion of this thing than anything else. How do I prove that the parts that are built are built to standards if he dont have any proof of how they were built through photos etc. Im ok with his work as I know the guy but the inspector might not if they ask questions at the time I have them come and look it over. As I understand it they should see everything as it is built before it is covered or am I missing something here ? Eric
KR> washer and prop
As long as the washer is just taking up space, which is all it is doing there should be no problem. As long as everything is as tight as is recomended ie torque values, what could it hurt? It's just acting as an extention of the shaft. If everything is a proper fit there should be no problem at all. I try not to get involved in this kind of thing as there are as many opinions as there are readers. Just remember to keep it simple and you cant go wrong. It's much better to add a washer to get your clearance than it is to rebuild an entire cowling or move your entire engine forward to gain the clearance. Put your washer or spacer or what ever you want to call it in, torque it down to the spec. and forget it and go flying :) Eric Kelsheimer
KR> This morning's flight.
Mark, just a not here I took a similar fall and started passing blood in my p. I had done some damage to my left kidney which dident really hurt till a couple days later then it about killed me to cough or anything. It's better to be safe than sorry, I dont know what the added altitude would do to an injury but it's not good to take chances with your health. You should probably wait a day or two just to be safe. I know you have the end say as to what you do. Just want that you should be on the side of caution. I was an EMT for a while so I have seen a lot, just be carefull!!! Eric Von Kelsheimer
KR> a little autocad advice
Hello Jeff, If it were me, I would load the pages on CD and take that to kinko's or someplace like that. It's much quicker and you dont have to mess with taping everything together and hope its located correctly. Eric Kelsheimer
KR> ICOM A-200?
Mark can you put a dummy load on the radio to reduce the radius it will transmit when you get in close. We use to do that with ham radios and CB's years ago it acted like you cut the power in half. That way people in close could hear you but farther out they could not. Im not real sure how this was done but a good Ham Raidio tech could tell you in a flash. Call radio shack a place that has Ham radio stuff they will be able to tell you what to do. I had a ham set set up like that and it worked at the flip of a switch worked just great. Just a thought :) Eric Kelsheimer
KR> Dynamo Alternator
Im trying to find a Dynamo ( John Deere ) Alternator and Regulator for my Corvair engine as seen on Mark Langford's web site. Anyone on the list having them for sale please contact me off list. Thanks for the help I just hope someone has them. Eric Kelsheimer http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/corvair/dynamo.html
KR> Flight instruments
Hello to all, I have a question for the group can anyone tell me how much your flight instruments are on average ? Is everyone buying them all new or ebay or what ? Im talking normal stuff nothing fancy just the basics for navigation VFR only. Thanks
KR> Flight instruments
Hello to all, I have been wondering if I could use my ham station as my radio It will cover the VHF band quite well as well as some fun on the side. It might be a little large and over kill but it could work I thing. Has anyone done this sort of thing or is everyone just sticking with pure Aircraft radios and nothing else? As for my guages I think im going to take Mark Langfords advice and buy all new. The industry is moving so fast that what is new today is outdated six months from now and much cheeper too. So I have decided to do the instrument panel last. Any thought's from the group would be great and thanks for your replies:) Eric Kelsheimer
KR> bad news
Phil, Im very sorry about your KR but your still alive to tell us about it and that's the main thing, thanks God your still alive you can build another plane. There is only one you, Glad your alright :) Eric Kelsheimer
KR> RPM
Hello Eric, My first best guess would be to check your timing your not getting full advance and your engine is dropping rpm because it cant work any faster without getting more advance. Hi Netters, I am getting 2100 rpm with a 52/48 prop static. The engine runs very smoothly, and responds well but on increasing throttle at 2100 rpm the engine quietens and revs drop.On throttling back I can get 2100 again and very smooth running
KR> Landing Gear
Randy, How much are you asking for your retractable landing gear? I changed my retracts to fixed I like the look better!!! but if you decide you want to go with retracts i have them for sale perfect condition wheels, breaks, and tires Randy

I hate to do it but I need to sell my KR2 Probably Ebay or Barnstormers something like that and here ! How much are you asking ?
KR> RE: Financing a KR2
You can put it on a credit card if you can get one with a good rate. I have a visa platinum with a $10,000.00 line of credit most of them come with checks you can write as payment for your plane. The best part about it, it's not a secured loan if you get out of work there's insurance that will make your payments. If things get real bad and you have to file bankrupt you loose nothing as it's an unsecured loan. With a secured loan you loose your plane if you cant pay for it. It's up to you to figure out the morality of it all, as for me the insurance that makes my payment if needed is well worth it. If Im going to put all that hard work into my plane I dont want to take a chance on loosing it no matter what. A little security goes a long way in the uncertian world we live in today. Just the way I see it others my have a different opinion im sure.
KR> Epoxy
Which type of epoxy are you all using for building your fuel tanks? With the added note on the West system Epoxy that it's not compatible with fuel containing Alcohol . As well as the lack of any such statement on any other Resin or epoxy I am undecided as to how to go about building my tanks. I have no desire to use any type of fuel containing Alcohol however, if it was put into my tank by some misfortune I dont want it attacking my planes fuel cell. I called Wicks and spoke to them about it and they refered me to a product called Polysulfide sealer , Any thought's on this potential problem and it's cure will be great!!! Thanks to all Eric Von Kelsheimer
KR> Fuel tanks and high altitudes
This is the result of the boating industries plite with alcohol in the gas as it sits in the fuel cell it eats away at the resin, normal gas wont do that its the alcohol that is causing the problem. So make sure you dont pump it in your tanks it will cause problems especially if it sits for an extended period of time. There are coatings you can use to prevent any damage but they are hard to apply after the plane is built. They are best applied during the building stage. I plan to coat my tanks for the added insurance and peace of mind. I can control what I do but not the other guy filling the tank that Im pumping from!!! A lot of the dock filling stations went to gasohol without giving it a thought till it was to late. Now everyone is in a panic, as far as I can tell there is no fiberglass resin that is safe from the effects of the alcohol eating away at it. There is however a company that makes a sealer that will protect your tank from it's effect. It's made by H. B. Fuller Company 1-888-423-8553 It is a two part epoxy called Polysulfide Part # is FE1407 I have this information from Wicks as they have had sever inquires for something to protect against the off chance their tanks would have alcohol put in them. Wicks is going to send me a copy of the information sheet on this product if anyone wants the information I will send it to you. Just contact me off list for the information. Eric Von Kelsheimer
KR> Fuel tanks and high altitudes
Bob, Thanks for the heads up I will be ordering a gallon as well. It looks like the product I have been looking for all along! Im using Aeropoxy for everything in my plane but its not a KR, its composite construction. The whole plane is 2lb foam and fiberglass with some areas in Carbon fiber. My wingtip tanks are fiberglass premolded tanks with baffels and I have no idea what type of resin was used in their construction. The company that made them went under long ago. I bought an unfinished project with all the factory parts. Im just getting started building the Rudder and Wingtip tanks as soon as my stuff gets here from Spruce and Wicks :) Have a good one Eric Von Kelsheimer
