Re: 71/2"pitch
Hi Mac I have not done a 71/2 in pitch I have the 2x gears and have done larger but looking at gears and the chart you should be able to cut one my suggestion to start with is recheck the gears the G gear 24 tooth and that your defiantly using the standard gears and not the .25X gears I know this sounds silly but sometimes it can be something simple you have overlooked I set it up on my revo and it worked ok set your carriage on the 10 inch line engage the leadsrew nut then draw a line on your indexing gear then wind the saddle along till the index gear does one 360 degree turn then look at the saddle and it should read 17 1/2 inches 7 1/2 longer then before that's what I just did on my revo and it works ok. hope this helps lets know how you go Bill ps you will have to ask the other guys about the 4x gears i use a differant way of doing the 4x stuff - Original Message - From: "MACSWAG" To: "Legacy Ornamental Mills" Sent: Tuesday, December 22, 2009 10:02 AM Subject: 71/2"pitch > Hi to aussiman in particular,Bill on thre Revo it states with the > standard gear I can make a71/2" pitch, well I cant get it,I use the > smallest of the gears with the standard gear to give the slowest > longest spiral but I do not get 71/2" inches pitch, can you help,or any > of the chaps looking in please chip in if you so feel,I would love to > have the 2xmultiplier set but will have to wait till next year > now, also the 4xmultiplier gear though looking at that on their site > it > doesn't look any different from the standard set-up with the reverse > or left hand spiral gears, the picture is not to good,is there another > gear tucked in behind the large middle gear, any info please post,MAC. > > -- > > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "Legacy Ornamental Mills" group. > To post to this group, send email to > legacy-ornamental-mi...@googlegroups.com. > To unsubscribe from this group, send email to > legacy-ornamental-mills+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > For more options, visit this group at > http://groups.google.com/group/legacy-ornamental-mills?hl=en. > > No virus found in this incoming message. Hello Art You have had a great impact on a lot of people with the things you keep on your site. If it means loosing this resource, I will take it over from you if we can keep everything where it is. radman, I am sorry to hear about the finincial situation. There are many folks looking for alternatives right now. I am new to this group and have a 900/Standard CNC and am interested in something where I can do things by hand. I do enjoy turning pens! If for some reason you do decide to sell your REVO please contact me. I hope things turn around for all and Merry Christmas and Gods Blessings on all! Re: New project
Thanks Tim I think I will also go with the thumb screw idea. the simpler the better. With less room for error, means that there is less room for me to make mistakes.(something I tend to do when Im in a hurry!) but one word to watch out for, space is the big problem, don't make the spacing to much or you will have problems with you other gears still fitting your system. I find 1/8"-1/4" to be the best spacing. Good luck I will start modifying my gear changer tomorrow morning. (since Im writing here now, I've lost my window of free shop time. I need to be at work by 4am if I want to get any work done.and I live an hour away from my work.) Its time for me to go. Work calls. ;-) have a great day. I had to buy my left handed one. I need one for my second machine but I'm in no rush. Legacy took the gears off of their website, but I think they only cost $65 for them. Curt's version would be really handy. Frankly I don't think there is much demand, but I agree with Curt that it is a pain to swap the gears. I was thinking of using a thumb screw and only two locations for the gears to be located in. This would prevent any accidental engagements of the gears. If anyone is interested, write me an email off list and I will bump up the priority of making something. -Tim - Original Message - From: Bill Bulkeley To: legacy-ornamental-mills@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, December 20, 2009 5:28 PM Subject: Re: New project looks like a good thing perhaps you can make a few of these things and sell them Bill - Original Message - From: curt george To: Legacy Google group Sent: Monday, December 21, 2009 7:37 AM Subject: Fw: New project Hello Everyone. Its been a crazy couple of weeks around here for me. Christmas is coming! What make things worse is I have a lot of projects to get done, besides the normal holiday stuff. I will be posting pictures of my new puppet stage in a day or two. What this is, Is a quick change directional gear changer For my Legacy. (This is the main reason that I have not been posting in the mornings, I've been going to work at 3 am to work on this, every day last week.) I need to make a way to change directional feed on my Legacy with out taking everything apart.(TIME IS MONEY, OR JUST TIME WASTED! in my case) It is a simple concept. swing an extra gear into the duplex gear to change direction. but As most simple things go, it was not quite that easy, My first attempt used the gears form the original directional gear sets that legacy makes. The problem was distance between the gears, I could not get a large gear and a small gear to mesh with all the gear settings that my legacy uses, if I made it side by side like the right handed set the legacy uses, I did not have enough room for some of the larger pitch or drive gears, and if I went smaller, then the smaller gears would not touch with in the gear adjustment. As is said, (I think I did?) this set works!!! ;-) But I can see some minor problems with this set-up, One namely the clamp that Im using to control the gears movement. The lock position is good, but when not locked the clamp could move if bumped.( that would be nasty! both gears touching at the same time, I don't want to think about the possible damage that would cause!) I will work on a new clamping lock to start with, and if that doesn't work I will remove the clamp and add a screw locking adjustment. (More to come on that!) Thanks to Big Tim on this project, The idea was mine ( I think??? ) first. but it was Tim's gear's that realy saved My day. I bought a number of gears form Tim a while ago. Anyhow like I said earlier the gear size was the problem, so what I did was use Legacy's single (60T) gear and one of Tim's 72T gears to make the changer work. First I needed to drill and press in a precisions gear into the 72T gear. (that was fun, and not as hard as you might think.More on that topic latter.) Then I need to make the SS guard, and make a bracket to hold the hole set up. the bracket needed to be rectangle in shape to hold the locking mechanism. A slot needed to be added for the adjustment lock on the Legacys gear pivit arm set up,and a pivot point need to be drilled for my gear changer. Most of the measurements came from the Legacy directional gear set, with one difference being to position of the hole compared to the original, the hole (pivot point) I made a little lower, Thinking that It would fix the problems I had on earlier attempt. The ark of the Duplex gear had to be compensated for, someth
