Re: [LegacyUG] Readily visible Link Proof

John

This is a bit unorthodox, but if you're not using the Record ID for
anything else, you could enter something there to show your level of Link
Proof. The Record ID can be added to the ends of displayed names and would
show up pretty much anywhere. See the View tab under the Options/Customize
section.

Give it a try and report back ...

Bob

In Family View - I'm seeking help as to how to see/show which
child/children have a Link Proof. I know I can check birth notes, events,
notes (general or research), etc to find the info. That can be very time
consuming. I'm seeking a readily visible or one click way to see this as
I move thru the screens. Any suggestions?

You might be able to use one of the tags in Legacy. Choose one that you'll
display on the family page and tag everyone for whom you have the necessary
link proof.

Re: [LegacyUG] Readily visible Link Proof

2007-02-11 Thread Debbie Blanton McCoy

Dave,

If you attach a source to the Father (Rel) and Mother (Rel), is there
any way to make this source information show up in reports, or would
one have to create an actual event, such as a Relationship event? If
one uses the Father (Rel) and Mother (Rel), it would be nice if the
sources attached to these would show up as sources for the Father and
Mother in a FGS.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your needs . . . but with one click you
can open the Assigned Sources window, and if you uncheck Show all
Events the source/proof of the link to the father (Father Rel.) and
the one for the link to the mother (Mother Rel.) will be visible if
you have the source/proof recorded there -- if you have them sourced
and they're not visible then simply make the window longer. If they
don't show unless you check Show all Events then you don't have the
proof sourced in Legacy.

BTW, you *are* showing your source/proof in that (correct) place,
right?

Re: [LegacyUG] Readily visible Link Proof

2007-02-11 Thread Susan Daily

John,
Before you start, ask yourself this question: Do most of the people in
your database have proved links to their parents? If so, then the ones
you want to mark visibly would be the ones that have yet to be proven.
So whatever recommendations you get, I would suggest you try to do it
with the smaller pool of names.

Some people might suggest that you not link the names of people you
haven't proved descent for. Not sure how workable that is for you. If
it is simply a condition that you just haven't located true sources
for the people yet, but feel they are real children, then I understand
more of what you are looking for. The asterisk mentioned previously
might help there (maybe put it in the Title Pre. box where it could
be easily added or deleted, and quickly viewed).

Re: [LegacyUG] Readily visible Link Proof

2007-02-11 Thread Cathy

Hi Debbie,
So long as you've chosen to include Child-Parent Relationships in the
Report Options, the Sources for the Rel to Mother and Rel to Father
show on a Family Group Sheet.
For people where there are only sources for these, after the parent
you'll find (Relationship xx, xx) where xx represents the source number.

I think I may have found a bug as they still show when you choose to
not include Child-Parent Relationships. However, they don't show if
you have never chosen to include Child-Parent Relationships.

Thanks, Cathy! That is really neat. I've used Legacy for years and never
knew that was there. It worked fine for me. I ticked the Child-Parent
Relationships in the options and they showed with the sources, then I went
back and unchecked Child-Parent Relationships and they didn't show.

[LegacyUG] Readily visible Link Proof

2007-02-10 Thread John Roose

Link Proof [for me] is that document which proves a link between two
individuals. Examples: (1) a marriage certificate proves a link between
husband and wife. (2) a birth certificate proves a link between child and
both parents. A county history, for example, that lists a family is not
proof but does allow one to enter the info while searching elsewhere for
link proofs.

I'm am NOT asking where to record marriage or birth certificates or other
link proofs of child-parent relationships - Legacy provides many ways and
places for doing this.

In Family View the Marriage Information block provides a good, easily
visible Link Proof of the marriage, and one click on sources confirms the
link.

In Family View - I'm seeking help as to how to see/show which child/children
have a Link Proof. I know I can check birth notes, events, notes (general or
research), etc to find the info. That can be very time consuming. I'm
seeking a readily visible or one click way to see this as I move thru the

Re: [LegacyUG] Readily visible Link Proof

2007-02-10 Thread Wm Voss
I have a similar, though different reason for the same function -- mine
is an occupation study and I like to be able to easily see which
children were silversmiths. I use two surnames: Doe and Doe* -- the
latter indicating a maker. It is easily seen on the family view and as
easily gotten rid of. If I generate reports or web pages, just do a
backup, then search and replace the *. When the reports/pages are done,
I dump the file and restore the backup.
