The presence of a standard environment between title and author is what causes the author environment not to appear in the compiled output. Zapping the comments solves it. /Paul

Do you use MikTeX and, if so, did you install the IEEETran class using the MikTeX? Perhaps you should post a small example of a LyX file where the author does not display. (I did not find one in the Zip file you linked to.) /Paul

I'll leave that to the LyX experts, but just wanted to let you know that it works under LyX 1.3.7. I saw the same behavior under LyX 1.4.3. Mac edition.
