That is to make all your music play at the same level!
If you have any that are either louder or quieter than others!

Yes; we've done that once. The build of Lion we have as an install.app is
obsolete I'd guess but I'm not sure about that. Has anybody downloaded it

Re: Installing Lion from scratch

2011-11-02 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello James

We've now changed our mind on this one. We don't want the machine to be an
exact duplicate of the MBP's we use because those machine are all configured
with Lion Server and that isn't how we want the little MacBook to be configured.

So I'm now looking for another way of installing Lion from scratch. We could
maybe create a DVD but it's a bit messy.

We do have some UsB thumb drives although I don't think those will work either.

David Pogue's Missing Manual eBook on Lion available for half price today

2011-11-02 Thread Esther
Hi all,

There have been recent questions from new users about good sources about the
learning the Mac, and particularly the new Mac OS X Lion operating system.
I've mentioned the Take Control Guide series: "Take Control of Using Lion" by
Matt Neuberg. David Pogue's "Mac OS X Lion: The Missing Manual" published by
O'Reilly Press has just been released, and is available for purchase at 50 per
cent discount, or $13.99, today only from O'Reilly's web site. Here's the link
to the O'Reilly deal of the day web page for Pogue's books:
http://shop.oreilly.com/category/deals/pogue.do
O'Reilly sells its book without DRM (digital rights management), so they can be
viewed on any platform or reader. When you purchase ebooks directly from them,
you create a user account, and get permanent access to all ebook versions of
the book that are available, and these are automatically updated for any
corrections or additions to the latest version. Current versions are ePub,
PDF, and Mobi. They've also been releasing their popular books in DAISY
format, though that's usually some weeks later. (The previous version of the
Missing Manual for Snow Leopard is in DAISY format, for example.)

O'Reilly does make its books available through Bookshare, and includes their
titles in the internationally available content. However, if you are not a
member of Bookshare, or simply want early access and access to the range of
multiple formats (so you can download the ePub version directly from the link
in your login account through Safari to your iPhone or iPad and open and read
it under iBooks, for example), this is a very good deal.

Other popular David Pogue Missing Manual titles are also on half price sale
today, but I'll point out that a new version of his Missing Manual for the
iPhone, as well as to his guide to Switching to the Mac, are due to come out in
about a month.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: App to record voice calls

Ar no, it is ok. If it is illegal then I shall stay away. Don't want to
get into trouble do I smiles. Thanks for letting me know. I knew it was
illegal in some countries but didn't know UK was one of them.

It can be done using hardware; but it isn't legal. I personally have never,

Bounces

2011-11-02 Thread Gordon & Lynne
Hello everybody

It would appear that some people have been getting bounce notifications from
our other server. If you receive such a notification from mail.mac-access.net,
please ignore it for the time being. We are working on moving all of the email
lists over to that server and for now it isn't properly on line. Apparently
it's getting a big bored so it's creating work for itself. If you get these
notices please look to see where they come from before you submit a support
request.

We are sorry for any inconvenience. This is only a short term issue as we will
be migrating the list soon.

Lynne

disappearing email

2011-11-02 Thread michael weaver
email keeps disappearing from my inbox since i have upgraded to
lion.
i tend to keep email for a while in my inbox just in case i need
to refer to it for example.
however i don't know why messages i keep for a few days which
have been read end up disappearing without me even pressing

is this a lion issue in mac mail or is something else causing it
such as the fact when i did a fresh install for lion when it was
released, the mail setup chose imap by default instead of pop
when mac mail decided to get my mail settings for the setup.

Importing emails from Outlook 2003 into Apple Mail

2011-11-02 Thread Sunil Peck
Hi,

If anyone could recommend an accessible app to do this or set out the steps,
I'd appreciate it.

I have a .pst file containing a backup of my messages from my Windows XP
machine running Outlook 2003 which I'd like to import into Apple Mail. I did a
brief search online for an answer but only came across references to a paid-for
app called something like Outlook2Mac. I'm reluctant to buy that in case It's
not accessible with VO.

Thanks for any help.

Sunil

Re: iCloud and multiple accounts

2011-11-02 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Ian

iCloud doesn't work the same way as MobileMe does. However there's an Apple
support document on their website at http://www.icloud.com which outlines how
to migrate multiple accounts into iClud from a family pack MobileMe account.

The other way you could do it is create separate groups in Addressbook and use
one group for each of you. Then synch the group you prefer on each device.

I hope that helps.

Hi,

I know there has been a lot written about this, but I could not find n answer
to my particular situation:

My wife is about to register her first iphone. We are thinking of sharing the
apple i d so that we can share apps. However, we would prefer to keep contacts
separate while being able to see each others calendars.

Further complications come with icloud. I have an account, but should she also
share this or can she have her own?

Even worse, I found today that my mac is not sharing calendars etc with my
phone as I have it set up with icloud. I am running snow leopard, so cannot
synch with the cloud until I move to Lion. Is this right? I am very confused
over the best set up.

Any pointers gratefully received.

Sandvox HTML Design tool

2011-11-02 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello everybody

Is anybody by any chance using this tool with VoiceOver? If so, have you
managed to accomplish anything with it? Visually it's a fine tool; but I won't
just accept that nowadays because I want something that will work for both
Gordon and myself. I'm still looking; but so far it isn't very promising.

Now; just to be clear so that nobody can twist what I'm saying. I am not
pronouncing that Sandvox is either unusable or inaccessible; I'm asking, not
declaring.

Sorry about that; but judging by recent misinterpretations elsewhere I have to
be very clear, it seems.

I will try that idea out. Thanks for the feedback.

I want a pair with good overall sound - any particular models are you happy to
