Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
I may try upgrading mine to version 4 and see if window eyes works, I can also restore from my external hard drive if it doesn't, the reason I chose not to upgrade the virtual machine was mainly because everything was working and I figured if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Yes, Mike. I did find out that xp was a bootcamp issue. Still, very odd that folks are having problems with fusion four. It works great for me. My upgrade went without a hitch. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
Keith and others, Please keep sharing your findings. I'm having the same problems here. I am a new VM Fusion user and got version 3 working well just before Version 4 came out. I would like to use the newer version but can't for the life of me get Jaws to accept my authorization code. I've tried some tricks shared by other users and by Freedom Scientific support persons. Most of these tricks involved deauthorizing either by going into JAWS tools or doing it by erasing a file in the program area. For me neither worked. I won't have time to deal with building a new virtual machine for some time. I don't want to deal with setting everything up again if I don't have to. Until one of us is successful I'm just using VM 3 and so far so good. In addition to my screen reader problems in VM Fusion 4 I don't seem to be able to get the peripherals such as USB drives to become connected. As soon as I press the connect button it disconnects again. can anyone duplicate this or have a solution? On the good side I find VMFusion 3 working ell with Windows 7 64 bit. I actually found it snappier then the Windows 7 32 bit version. My currently nicely working machine with Jaws 12 and Windows 7 64 bit was created as a new machine and all software installed directly from disks. have my VM fusion 4 on a external bootable disk so I can try to get it running but no luck so far. Thanks everyone for the detailed and helpful information. eRic Caron On Sep 19, 2011, at 7:26 PM, Keith Watson wrote: > Ok, > > So I just had VMware tell me to uninstall my screen reader and reinstall. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
Ok, So I just had VMware tell me to uninstall my screen reader and reinstall. It seems that they think that because I am running JFW 11 and 12 on the same machine that it is conflicting with their video driver. I told the guy that I would do it and return the results, but that I was 100% sure that I would experience the same results. Friggin Voodoo trouble shooting if you ask me. Daughter got home and helped me uninstall and reinstall only one version. Guess what, crashed harder than Charlie Sheen after a good binge. Back to the drawing board VMWare! I'm interested in this as well, especially as I'm also "stuck" back in xp days. I have WE 7.5, but if it's not going to play nice with version 4 of fusion, I'm totally happy to stick with version 3. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
I encountered the same problem with WE 7.2. Not sure exactly what is going on, but sense I only need the windows VM for one specific purpose, I have a backup and will just copy it back over and skip installing the tools. Now that I think of it, I don't really need it in any event, but fun to muck about with. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
Mark, Yes and no. No I have not had any luck getting my original virtual machine to work with Fusion 4. The only way I was able to get it to stay booted was to have my daughter cancel the tools install as soon as the vm booted. This way I was able to get my Favorites off the vm. I never stored any files on the vm, always saved to the share area on my Mac so that everything got backed up. Now to the success that I have had. I created a new 64 bit Windows 7 vm and have not had any issues so far. Every thing went well with the install of my screen reader and now the only problem I am having is getting Winblows 7 back to Classic view on everything. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
Hi guys, Just to add to the council of despair: I've been having similar problems with a Windows XP virtual machine and Window Eyes 7.5 after upgrading to Fusion 4. Whether I upgrade the VM or not (I think this has more to do with the Mac side rather than within Windows itself, as VMWare Tools upgrades itself regardless of this choice), I get to the stage of Window Eyes wanting to reboot having discovered there's been a new graphics driver installed, then Windows restarts and I get the blue screen of death during the reboot, it then restarts and sticks on the XP startup splash screen. I've now reverted to a backup of the virtual machine a few times, trying: - cancel Tools upgrade, remove Window Eyes, reboot, let the Tools upgrade, reboot and install WE again - repeat the above, but use my original WE 7.1 installation disk rather than the upgraded 7.5 one. In both cases the same thing happens. I'm going to try building a new XP VM tomorrow that has never seen Window Eyes, then install it and see how it goes, maybe will try a Win7 VM also, but I can't say I'm particularly hopeful. Failing this will just have to accept I've blown the £40 I spent on the Fusion 4 upgrade and put version 3 back on. Real shame as I've been a happy Fusion+WE user for a couple of years and this is literally the first problem I've had. Anyone had any more positive experience? Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
Mike, I try to keep my particular views of a particular company off lists. There are many AT companies that I could voice an opinion of, but choose not to as this is not the forum for that sort of conversation. That said, I have never had an issue with having my ILM count reset, I have never had an issue with obtaining any kind of support from Freedom Scientific at all. Every time I contact them for support I have had no issues. In any case, to continue the thread on the actual issue that I am having. I have been in contact with VMWare support via email and much to my surprise, by phone. I spent a couple of hours on the phone with one of their techs last night and he was stumped. In the end he took a bunch of screen shots and is going to escalate the issue up the line to development. He even downloaded a copy of JAWS and is going to attempt to install it and see what happens. I must say that I am very impressed with the level of service that I have obtained for only a $49.99 purchase price. Will keep ya'll updated on the progress. I suspect that it may have something to do with the fact that the VM is 32-bit and Fusion 4 tools are 64 bit. I am going to attempt to create a 64 bit Windows 7 VM today and see if that does not make a difference. I really did not want to do that though because of the minimum memory requirements needed. I have 4 gig and have 512 allocated to my Linux VM and 512 allocated to my XP VM. This seems to give me the best overall performance for the tasks that I perform on a daily basis. Unless something has changed at Freedom Scientific, I'd be surprised if they agree to help you, I heard someone asked for help and when they found out that they were using JFW on a virtual machine on a mac, they said that wasn't supported. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
I did install the vm ware tools. The problem is the same that was the issue on version 3, at least for me. I told vo to install, and clicked yes to continue. But there were to more buttons that vo didn't read, a continue, and except button. This is what my wife told me when we did it back in June. Vo didn't read the buttons this time, but jaws did. So I was able to install the vm tools with no problems or crashs. And now I am even able to use my play on subscription. If the video driver changed you will have to reinstall WE, When you get the prompt as Mike said it just exits WE. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
I don't think it tried to do that, since my windows 7 virtual machine works fine the way it is, I'm going to leave it, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
Mike, Did your vm automatically try to install vmware tools even after saying no to the upgrade vm option? No matter what I have done it always seems to want to install. I have to cancel and can then use the vm, but it's annoying. On Sep 15, 2011, at 8:10 PM, Mike Arrigo wrote: > I have window yes, I think it's 7.2 installed, I will try it. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
I have window yes, I think it's 7.2 installed, I will try it. I don't see any difference in a version 4 virtual machine, I think it supports hd audio, and better graphics, you might try copying your version 3 virtual machine back, and telling fusion not to upgrade it. By the way, pressing enter at that window eyes prompt does not reboot windows, it just exits window eyes. Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
Robert, I suspect that you are running into the same situation that I did with the JFW video intercept. After installing and rebooting the vm hangs and is unresponsive. I know that Scott Howell uses WindowEyes and installed Fusion 4 last night. Don't know if he is having the same issue though. Scott??? BTW, Robert. Last Christmas a friend of mine asked me if I knew of a blind guy by the name of Robert Carter. Said he went to school with him about a 100 years ago. He's from North Carolina and his name is Jack Hickman. Ring any bells? Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
Hi, I had the same thing happen when it updated the vm. All I can say is that after awhile, I shut it down from the vm menu and then restarted it. Every thing seems to work after that. Hope that helps. RE: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes
Not yet, but please keep me updated. I am very new to Fusion, so am taking only tentative steps, so will be interested if WE works or if I need to skip the update for now. -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Robert Carter Sent: Thursday, September 15, 2011 2:08 PM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes Hi All, After upgrading from VMWare Fusion 3 to 4, fusion asked to upgrade my Windows XP VM that I had been using with Fusion 3. After upgrading the VM, Window-Eyes version 7.1 said that the video driver had changed and that windows needed to restart. Window-Eyes then said press enter to continue. After that point, I get no sound from the VM at all. I am not positive whether or not it actually restarted but it appears that it probably did. At least fusion seems to think that windows is running. At any rate, if I let it sit for a few minutes, the fan on my Mac starts running at top speed suggesting that the computer is working extremely hard. I booted my system with an earlier SuperDuper clone and of course Window-Eyes ran fine because I was again using fusion 3. I then uninstalled Window-Eyes from that SuperDuper clone and copy the VM without Window-Eyes back to my fusion 4 installation. I then allowed the XP VM to be upgraded by fusion to work with fusion 4. I then ran System Access as the screen reader and it works perfectly. I have not yet decided whether or not I will try installing Window-Eyes but it is possible that Window-Eyes does not like fusion 4. Does anybody have fusion 4 working with Window-Eyes in an XP VM?
