Yes the vac activates the mechanical lock. So if the mechanical lock button is in the up position then the door is unlocked and should open. That leaves a glued closed door from being closed for a long time or a problem with the latch system itself. Like Jim said kick it from the inside. Tie a rope around the handle outside and have someone pull on it like trying to open it. Careful not to pull too hard and possibly break the handle off. Never seen that but you never know. Hit it right below the window at the back end where there is a lot of metal and less chance of breaking the inside door panel. 2x4 flat with a big rubber hammer? Manfred clay wrote: DOH! I still need anybody who has a fair idea to point me in the proper direction for getting the passenger side door to open. Sounds like the lock and the handles are functional. Not the mushy response the other door gave. Does the vac just actuate the mechanical lock, or is it a separate system? I have the bench seat out to clean up the mold that started since the car sat for a while. Not bad, but all over the place. Used diluted peroxide to tackle that. Lysol will douse the smell issue. I've had doors freeze shut when a rainy day was followed by a freeze at night. The wet rubber weatherstrip freezes to the body and it's nearly impossible to get the door open. Perhaps a similar think could happen to a car that's been sitting a long time, the rubber weatherstripping is rusted to the body. Re: [MBZ] W116 brakes
Craig diese...@pisquared.net writes: No, it shouldn't. In fact, you cannot judge the clearance with the master cylinder removed. You want to get under the dash and feel the rod that pushes the master cylinder piston (Dan called it the clevis rod) it should be loose with the brake pedal up. As you move the brake pedal down, the rod should tighten up. The rod should move 1 - 2 mm before it tightens up. OK I had a look. I can't really see the rod (or any way to adjust it) because it's covered by a rubber bellows. There does seem to be some free play at the top of the pedal travel. There's a tiny bit (about 1/16 measured at the pedal) which I would guess is slack in the mechanism, then a bit of resistance against the return spring for about another 1/2 (again, measured at the pedal) before it feels like the rod contacts the cylinder piston. The pedal does not sink when held under pressure (with engine off/no boost). Additionally all the rubber lines at the calipers are new. Calipers themselves are of unknown age. How likely would it be for both rears to be frozen? I guess if there had been water in the fluid, and the car sat for a while (as it did before I bought it) that might not be too unlikely. This W211 made a rattle at a certain RPM that sounded like the cat heat shield failing on my old 124's. Does the W211 do this same thing? Or is such a noise likely something more serious? Ozone? How did you do this? I got an ozone generator at the thrift shop. It's the teeny tiny size, draws an amp of 12V or so. Did you build your own ozone generator out of an old microwave oven? Could have. I have a UV EPROM eraser I made many years ago. The side effect of UV light is ozone. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] Battery Reconditioning
Have any of you tried the automotive storage battery re-conditioning procedures such as those on YouTube using aluminum sulfate or Epsom salt? I am skeptical. On the other hand, I do not want to pass up something that will pull a couple more years of life out of a $100 battery. If you tried it, what were the results? If the results were good, was it worth the effort?
