[MBZ] Windows 10 Upgrade

2020-01-10 Thread ROGER HALE via Mercedes
Kaleb,
I realized I left out the assumption per your email that you would do a fresh
install on the new SSD drive of Win 10 Pro. That way when you move the apps,
etc. from the old drive to the SSD all should be well. Check to be sure
PCMover will go from Win7 to Win10. It's been a few years since I've used it,
but I'll have to again soon as I'm moving my apps, etc. from my old Vostros to
the newer Vostros.
Sorry for jumping ahead. The little gray cells get mixed up the older I get :-)
Again, good luck,
Roger

Re: [MBZ] More windows 10 update

2020-01-10 Thread ROGER HALE via Mercedes
Kaleb,
Sorry to hear you are still having problems. Do you have another PC? If so
you can do the following. Put your secondary drive (your original) into the
second PC. Hopefully, it will boot ok. If it does, you can use PCMover to
move all your apps from the second PC back to your original PC which would save
you a lot of time. PCMover doesn't move the OS, only the apps and files and
settings. I still think there is something about your Ultimate version of Win7
that Win10 Pro does not like. I've used Win10 Pro now for over 3 years and I
like it better than Win7 Pro and I really liked Win7 Pro.
Good luck and again call me if I can help.
Best Wishes,
Roger

[MBZ] Firefox attacks: Homeland Security urges all users to update browsers immediately in rare warning

2020-01-10 Thread Craig via Mercedes
I ran across this article today,

https://www.fastcompany.com/90450626/firefox-attacks-homeland-security-urges-mac-users-to-update-browsers-immediately-in-rare-warning

dated 01-10-209:21 am.

I searched for more authoritative information and found,

https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/current-activity/2019/10/23/mozilla-releases-security-updates-firefox-and-firefox-esr

So, fastcompany.com is about 3 months late.

Both of these sources say, "The version you want to be running (ie: that
is safe from the vulnerability) is Firefox 72.0.1 and Firefox ESR 68.4.1
or higher. Firefox browsers for mobile devices are not known to be
affected."

My current Firefox was version 71.0, but is now 72.0.1.

I am told that folks here are of the very friendly sort, being all frontier
ethos, look out for each other or we all die. Nobody is rude and cold shoulder
as it is in Seattle. I think it may not be as open and welcoming as some more
vivacious nations, but the people (not drunk or on drugs/homeless) are looking
for more of their tribe to claim. Sort of the Vegan principle. Always looking
for somebody else who eats food that food eats

That is foggy data. Seems somebody thought there were 60k real natives back
when the Russians owned the space. Current real native population is about
twice that. White folk back 70 years or so were mostly on bases, with a small
population of a few thousands civilians colonizing or small time placer mining.

Food security - the natives are eating western food and getting mega illness,
while Greta Thunderburg is making the arctic too warm for critter hunting and
fishing to keep traditional food on the table. That white folks are evil and
not eating enough local produce, as it is much less expensive to have it barged
up than to support the hobby farm ecosystem costs the environment requires.

Basically the current c drive is an exact copy of what is now the f drive. The
f drive was the original drive and when I bought the SSD I just mirrored it
then made SSD primary. The old install is still on the old drive. I just now
started backing up things to the original just in case. These are probably
duplicates though. I also am backing up Firefox bookmarks and saved passwords.

I checked for updates to bios but I seem to have the newest available. I’m
really not wanting to do a complete I then and have to reinstall programs and
such. The alternative is staying on 7 I guess.

Hm ... perhaps the source would be at the center of the general area.
That is, of course, if the general area is not overly broad to disguise

I think the best part of AK I saw was the Aleutians. They’re frighteningly

While I’m no expert, having worked all over AK off and on for eight years, I
contend that anyone who lives and remains there for more than a year has got
some sort of weird affinity for the place. As I’ve stated before, I was told by
more than one of the locals that people who came up from the Lower 48 either
left shortly after their arrival or they stayed forever. That, and everyone I
worked with who were locals other that the indigenous folks always seemed a
little “off kilter”, for a lack of a better description. Nothing you could put
your finger on, just different.

I never had a desire to stay. While it’s a beautiful place, and I was
privileged to see parts of it that few people ever do, it was depressing for a
number of reasons.

The snowmobile club guys love ether. We've got a big Case mowing tractor that
we've locked up repeatedly with ether. I think that one's issue is the IP, if I
prime the snot out of it it'll start without ether.
The first time I saw the ASV having trouble starting they sprayed it and then
hit the heater button. Fortunately I don't think it was working at the time. I
freaked out when they told me "oh thats the glowplugs"...
The Pisten Bully (MB content, its got an MB engine) has no glow plugs and has
an ether system built into the cab which sadly doesn't work anymore.

During hunting season I noticed that Google Maps is quite accurate for walking
around in the woods. Often I use it in conjunction with my compass.Google Earth
on the other hand seems to have a 1/4 mile offset that I have been unable to
figure out. Its always got me mislocated and is thus useless in the woods.
As I often walk out out of cell service I was hoping Google Earth would work
better than it does.

Since the BRV's speedometer is recessed in the dash and since it reads

Shirley had a dental appointment today so we were in northwest
Albuquerque. After her appointment, I programmed the GPS to find the
quickest way to the Fleet Pride store in downtown Albuquerque and we
were off (you have to be off to do this kind of thing!  :-) ).

As we were driving east on Paseo del Norte, I heard the GPS saying,
"Recalculating!" several times. Then I noticed I was going slower than
the speed limit of 60 mph -- the GPS said 52. I accelerated and noticed
the GPS said 48. I then looked down at the speedometer (it was after
sunset and I had the lights on so the speedometer needle was easy to
see). It said we were going 65!

I slowed down and push the button on the GPS to return to the map
display. It showed the vehicle about 500' north of the roadway and going
on neighborhood roads instead of on the freeway! When we crossed the Rio
Grande (where there are no neighborhood roads parallel to the freeway!)
it decided we were on the freeway afterall.

We got off on the left side of the freeway, turned right, and went under
the eastbound lanes and stopped at a stoplight with a clear view of the
sky. I looked at the GPS's map and saw it said we were about 500' west of
our actual location. This continued as we headed south on 2nd street.

I thought this was rather odd, having never seen anything like this
before.

It could have been caused by someone transmitting locally on GPS
frequencies, but those are predominantly line-of-sight and we had
travelled a few miles and were on the other side of a freeway
overpass's earth berm. In addition, after a while it started working
correctly again.

It occurred to me it could have been due to the Department of Defense
turning on Selective Availabilty (which has been off for several years).

Anyway, I first noticed the wierdness about 1640 MST (2340Z).

Re: [MBZ] OT - fires

2020-01-10 Thread dan--- via Mercedes
