The chrome wheel arches are an abomination on any car and also hasten infection
with the tinworm. I can’t count the number of W126s I’ve seen over the years
where all it took to start rust occurring with these things on the car was the
little screws they used to self-drill into the fender lip.

I’m not a fan of the 8-hole wheels on W123s, but with the limited choices of
wheel sizes for these cars, especially 15” versions, I would consider it for
just that reason. I’ve owned a W123 with stock 15” steel wheels, and it was a
totally different car to drive compared to the 14” stock wheels. I completely
agree that they should be bundts (yuck!) or steelies with color-keyed wheel
covers, the classiest looking setup I've ever seen on any car trying to
coordinate wheel colors with the body color scheme.

I hope I am responding correctly. I have not been here for a long time. My
300D got totaled in a storm and I replaced it with a 300TD Estate Wagon. I
agree, well almost:

The chromed arches invite rust (holes in the metal)
I have seen a couple (560 SL that also had the same chrome rims) that don't
look so bad, just not on this model
IF one is going to have them, the rims need to be chrome as well. Nothing
worse than just having them by themselves. They just scream for attention.

The old M100's 600 SEL had them, and because the line of the chrome wrapped
around the entire car including the rocker panel and the bumpers and the trim
around the windows, it looks complete to me.
Otherwise, it is a nice-looking vehicle...not my color favorite though...

Hmm... the ad copy has changed a little. Has gone from "We are selling the car

Sounds like at least one person has bailed on the idea of living in a school
bus.

It's a Korean car. It was worthless when new. It could not have possibly
appreciated from worthless now that it's used.

'Reminds me: In summer of '79, after my assignment as a civil engineer in
Greenland, I back to flying B--52's here at Seymour Johnson AFB, NC, and
SWMBO had been trying for several months to sell the house (so small we
called it "The Cabin" in quaint village of Wrightwood in San Gabriel Mtns.
of Southern CA. It was getting near time for school to start for younger
son who was then a rising high school junior. I called SWMBO and told her
to list the house with an agent and "come on here."

She called me back about 2 hours later and reported that since a few minutes
after my call, three buyers had been "fighting" over which was going to buy
it - "What should I do?" My answer, "Sell it to the highest bidder to
present a written offer with a deposit." She did, for more than we had been

I decided not to share the pain of trying to get rid of SWMBA's korean car.
It has nothing to do with mercedes, other than she sold the E300 and got
this, and I want to put the R107 in the garage instead of the korean car.

Two months this thing has been taking up space. Constantly renewing CL
posting. Lowering asking price in an attempt to spark interest.
Rejecting offensively low offers and know it alls who try to tell me how
to sell it better. Getting very low trade in offers for the thing that
are below what was offered when she was purchasing a replacement. I knew
this was a turd on wheels when she got it.

SO, this weekend, I get a guy who makes a low ball email offer without
seeing the car. He is looking at same model two or more years older and
almost twice the miles, making same price bid as the older cars. Then
another guy, never considered a korean car shows interest and makes
appointment to see it yesterday, but flakes.

Lowball larry and Flaky fred reschedule to see the car today. Low ball is
here first, does test drive, reviews file with all paper since new. Makes
a higher low ball offer which I counter with SWMBA's lowest allowed price.
He walks. I go grocery shopping, having not heard from Fred after telling
him Larry did not purchase.

Flaky Fred calls me while I am mid grocery trip and says he is at my front
door. Dang! While I drive over, Larry texts that he will up the offer a
few hundred. I text that I am meeting another interested party, and take
Fred for a test drive. Fred is kicking tires and might call back after I
tell him Larry has made another offer. And, I return to shopping trip so
I can make dinner.

While driving home, Larry calls and says he is really interested and wants
to review the file in the morning so he can chat up the dealership about
extended warrantee SWMBA got that covers the car out to 2020 instead of
the short time standard off the lot. He also wants all manner of
paperwork, since SWMBA is no longer living in the state. I play along,
and juggle the cats so this deal will maybe go through. I had reposted
the car this morning, since the listing expired, and with felines in the
air, hissing and spitting, another guy responds to the listing.

Two months, nobody wants this car, now I have three guys in 48 hours with
a chub for the car.

Linksys wusb600n or the new Linksys USB one. Available at Sam's Club,
Wal-Mart, or cheaper refurbished from Amazon. Download the driver from
ralink. Works in at least rhel, centos, fedora. I'm using 128 of them
right now.

If you have a cardbus slot you will probably already have the driver for
anything you pick up, but you will have to find a cardbus NIC first. Still,
an alternative.

I have researched a lot of drivers, so if you can't find a driver let me
know. For what it's worth the 11n USB NICs are more likely compatible with
Linux.

[MBZ] We are in trouble

2008-12-19 Thread RELNGSON
Subject: We are in trouble

We are in trouble...

The population of this country is 300 million.

160 million are retired.

That leaves 140 million to do the work.

There are 85 million in school.

Which leaves 55 million to do the work.

Of this there are 35 million employed by the federal government.

Leaving 15 million to do the work.

2.8 million are in the armed forces preoccupied with killing Osama
Bin-Laden.

Which leaves 12.2 million to do the work.

Take from that total the 10.8 million people who work for state and city
Governments. And that leaves 1.4 million to do the work.

At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals.

Leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.

Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.

That leaves just two people to do the work.

You and me.

And there you are,

Sitting on your ass,

At your computer, posting another message to okiebenz.

Nice. Real nice.

I am seeing increasingly frequent Benz commercials on the "nerd" channels I
watch on television. Saw one today that caught my attention: "Lease one
today for $598 per month." ... Without revealing my current salary
arrangements, I can nevertheless say that a lease payment of $598 would
make

a major dent in my bi-weekly take home pay.

No wonder I am driving a 30 year old Benz!

Here in Seattle the standard Bosch Microedge works splendidly. Forget the ANCO.

Craig McCluskey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: A few days ago, there was a
discussion about wiper blades.

Today, I went looking for replacements. I found:

   Anco Universal Refill $ 4.99

Bosch Microedge (complete assembly) $ 7.99

Bosch Microedge Excel (comp. assy.) $ 12.99

Any comments on which one would be the best value?

Thanks,

Craig
