About the same time this string started, I drove the '83 240D to Gainesville
and back.
The whole way it was making a loud exhaust type roar, but only after it
reached a
about 50 mph. Sort of sounds like one of the old timey cars with straight
through
fiberglass mufflers. Thought it was going to be trouble free for a while,
but no such luck.

Parked it on return and drove the 300D. Get to it later.

Besides that, I had installed a new hood pad and tried water based glue
which is much
easier to work with. Opened the hood the other day and the pad was lying on
top of

the engine. Now I'd got to do it over with 3M solvent based glue.

Got to set the trap. Need a new rabbits foot.

I have a can of 3M Super Trim Adhesive #08090. Could that be it?
Also have a can of 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Adhesive.
When I attached the soundproofing the first time, with the hood open I
draped a large sheet of plastic over the whole front end of the car and
pushed it up over the wipers and windshield. It looks like that arrangement
would pretty well protect the finish from overspray, so I feel more secure
about using an adhesive that has volatile solvents that might damage the
paint.

There is 8090 and 8088 if I recall correctly.

One is heavy duty and the other is just general, which I assume would not be
heavy duty.

Wicked stuff. Just be sure to cover up well, as it is like brake fluid when it
gets on paint. The second it touches paint the surface is destroyed.

Don't ask me how I know

I used Miracle Paint leftover from doing my bodywork. That was 3 years
ago and it still doesn't rust on the external exhaust pipes. Of course I
wire brushed it before applying 2 coats of the Miracle Paint. Google it
buy direct from N.J.[Bill Hirsch ]. I didn't have to top coat it since
it's

not exposed to sunlight .
I bought my 83 240D in '97 and still have the same exhaust system.
