majones wrote: Over in the BBC blog, Andrew Scott has said that the RTMP streams will be shut down as well. We've never published the RTMP streams, they have only ever been expected to be used by our own applications so we have not published a timeline for that. If you are using a device which consumes those streams you should expect them to stop as well. The significance of this is that the RTMP/AAC streams that we're accessing presently for Listen Again are at risk. But is Andrew Scott correct in saying that they have only ever been expected to be used for the BBC's own applications? Does anyone have a full history of how it is that we've ended-up using the RTMP/AAC streams on this basis? I suspect he's plain wrong! Sorry but Andrew Scott is right. When BBC started using Flash there was only Adobe players and so only legal way of playing flash was using an Adobe authorised system. The RTMP protocol was Adobe confidential and proprietary and not published. It was reverse engineered but any non Adobe source code for RTMP based in the US had take down notices issued and IIRC legal proceedings were started. Reverse engineered players were still available outside the US. I'm not sure of the timing but possibly a year or two after BBC started using Flash , Adobe changed their minds (possibly because of Apple and iPhone not allowing Flash) published the RTMP protocol so 3rd party players could be made available legally. However , breaking Adobe encrypted RTMP (RTMPE) was/is still illegal. Again IIRC, once the RTMP protocol was in the public domain and no threat of law suits, it became feasible to do a Flash based plugin. In summary, when BBC designed and then implemented their Flash based Iplayer, they did not think there could be 3rd party players as Adobe was actively protecting their protocols. From a BBC point of view, Flash is heavyweight protocol whereas chunked/HTTP (HLS/HDS,DASH) is lightweight and requires less server processing (and more modern encryption support) and so longer term Flash needed to be phased out. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

hey there, i bought your app and im really satisfied with it and use it every day. I only miss one thing: to synchronize a playlist and not just download it. So if i add a song to the playlist in LMS, Squeeze Ctrl automatically downloads it as soon as its connected to the server and if i delete a song from the playlist, it gets deleted from the phone or tablet storage to. Another thing that would be nice is to use the app to play downloaded songs without the need of being connected to LMS, but thats not that important. michi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64133 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96757 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Triodes applet on our Logitech UE Squeezebox Wi Fi Radio was finally turned off yesterday. The listen again feature was probably the most used piece of software in our house. I have already worked how to get live streams on the radio and can sort listen again via our Mac/smart phones BBC iplayer and a Bluetooth speaker. However it would be even better if there was a work around on Triodes applet. It would be very helpful to know if this is technically possible before looking around for other Wi Fi radio alternatives. This is based on a Debian fork of Linux * a couple of Duet receivers * a Joggler running SqueezeOS, also, I think, Debian under the bonnet I have tried to follow the bpa/triode instructions to install the helper plugin and ffmpeg, but things aren't working for me. I feel the problems mainly lie in knowing exactly where to stash things like ffmpeg, and whether or not I have done enough to enable it. Bear in mind I'm not clueless, but at the same time I'm no expert, particularly at Linux, and I really don't *want* to be, although I'm picking stuff up as I go along. I used 'apt-get install ffmpeg' to get a binary downloaded, it appears to be quite a small file but regardless, I don't know where to put it so that the plugin works, nor do I know if it needs a chmod or similar to make it work from the context of the LMS process. I had a good old tootle around the Internet... Nowhere could I find where a Squeezeplug installation stashes its executables. I have the bpa plugin installed (I think). It *looks* like I do when examining the LMS web interface. Several people have reported that Sheevaplug with Arm5 doesn't have the 'grunt' to transcode the HLS stream to FLAC. After a bit of a struggle, our Sheevaplug is streaming HLS more-or-less perfectly. I say more-or-less; I have noticed one or two short drop-outs (a second or so) over the last hour. I have even run three players simultaneously, all streaming HLS-FLAC. CPU averages about 40-50% with one player although it does hit 100% momentarily at times. Sheevaplug is running Debian 7.1. I'm using the standard Debian 7.1 ffmpeg (sudo apt-get install ffmpeg). It announces itself thus: ffmpeg version 0.8.16-6:0.8.16-1, Copyright (c) 2000-2014 the Libav developers built on Sep 17 2014 14:08:50 with gcc 4.6.3 Chaoticmike, you don't need to know where to install ffmpeg if you are installing it with apt-get. It will be placed in /usr/bin and made executable. As everyone has noted, the standard ffmpeg does not die when you stop playing the stream. Hence I needed Parky's playhls.pl wrapper (#2459 in this thread) to keep the ffmpeg processes from proliferating. Actually, I edited that to call ffmpeg instead of avconv. Not sure which is the better choice. The toughest problem to find, short bursts of playback followed by long gaps, (also reported by @monxton), was nothing to do with arm5 or 'grunt'. It turned out that the first named DNS in resolv.conf had failed. This had gone unnoticed because I guess most networking applications will retry with a second DNS after a short timeout. It appears that ffmpeg does not do so, or only does so after a long timeout. Once I had eliminated the faulty DNS from resolv.conf, it worked fine. One other oddity. I tested HLS-PCM (disabling HLS-FLAC and HLS-MP3 from Settings, Advanced, File Types). It streamed successfully but the playback seemed to be lowered in pitch by a few tones! Some kind of sampling rate artefact?? Very pleased with the outcome of this story, thanks for all the help, our Sheevaplug is back in service, and the Raspberry Pi 2 I bought in expectation I needed more 'grunt' will be put to good use elsewhere :-) Rob robjordan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64135 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] The New HSL files on windows PC
Big thanks to Man In A Van for this clear and concise guide to getting this working again for me, and to Bonze for the effort of creating the replacement opml files. A couple of quick questions. Is this a temporary fix? Are the BBC likely to shut down these streams as well, in the near future? Do you know which version of ffmpeg it is that you've linked to? It appears to be based on 0.8, and the other thread suggests there may be problems with this version. I'm presuming the UK streams bonze created will enable me to listen to live sport on 5 and sports extra? Does ffmpeg transcode these streams all the time, or only when I choose to listen to them? I'm a little concerned about the load on my rubbishy server. As I said at the start, big thanks to you guys, and very little thanks to BBC and Logitech. Without people like yourselves, i'd have some very expensive and very redundant hardware. :) Budge74's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37692 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103143 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Batch / Mass rating?
Hi, as Roland mentioned you need another Way. I would take this route: Make for each rating a simple textfile with the url/ place from filesystem where the track is stored. Code: sqlite3 /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/persist.db .mode csv .output 010.csv select url from tracks_persistent where rating where rating=10; .output 020.csv select url from tracks_persistent where rating where rating=20; etc After that you have to must use a mp3 tagger that can be handle via commandline. Cause of the ratings are stored into the mp3 tag itself. Oterwise a clean and wipe/movin the tracks to another place would destroy the rating. So the question becomes how can we help ourselves? I don't know the answer, but I thought someone should pose the question sooner rather than later. I note that get_iplayer already seems to be able to use HLS (via ffmpeg or avconv) even for 'listen again', according to https://squarepenguin.co.uk/wiki/releasenotes/release291/ . Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan: iTunes import no longer working
rlem wrote: Any ideas? To be sure: I'm using a fairly recent version of LMS 7.9 and the latest iTunes (12.1). Sorry I didn't notice this thread until now. It kind of feels like Apple have changed something so the added time is no longer part of the iTunes Library xml file. If this is the case I'll have to do an adjustment in the import logic in TrackStat so it defaults to something else if the time isn't available in the iTunes Library xml file. I'll try to take a look at it during next couple of weeks. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
majones wrote: It seems not. The reason is that the BBC didn't realise that we use RTMP streams, thinking they were for the BBC's own use. This emerged yesterday in Andrew Scott's blog on the BBC website. He said that the RTMP streams will be shut down, but they have not published a timeline. So, it appears that we have some breathing space during which, hopefully, Triode will appear with a solution for the HLS streams. Ah, I hadn't realised that. Well, long may it (RTMP) continue. But lets assume not and get something built for HLS. I'm in a similar boat to you: I can code, but may not have the right coding skills required here. Anyhoo, happy to help (code, test etc.) if we do find that Triode is no more and need pool resources to make an HLS Listen Again player plug-in for Squeezebox. castalla wrote: Just put efforts on getting the BBC to declare how to access the HLS urls - then we move on one way or the other. edit: i have little expectation that the General Manager of Radio Product for BBC Future Media has any notion of what we are complaining about Agreed, but at least he replies more often than Jim Simmons! ;) I'll keep on posting BBC blog comments to highlight the need for information on how to access HLS Listen Again. poing wrote: Thanks for the quick reply! The Fire TV is hooked up via the Ethernet port of a Powerline adapter. I don't recall changing anything in the config of either LMS, or the Fire TV, or SB Player. (Well, maybe one thing that changed is that I didnn't renew my Prime membership so the Fire TV cannot use Prime anymore. But that shouldn't be of relevance I would think.) Other apps on the Fire TV (e.g., Kodi) run just fine and access files from the same server that's running LMS (a Synology NAS) without any problems. EDIT: And, of course, SB Player used to work on this Fire TV box. Last time I used it successfully was maybe two or three weeks ago. Did you try uninstalling and re-installing SB Player? The changes between the previous version and the current version is just about what happens when the connection breaks and the player has to reconnect. It shouldn't affect the actual connection itself. -- Squeezebox apps for webOS, Android and Windows Phone, http://www.angrygoatapps.com wt0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18760 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98049 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
