slower dimming on powerbook

2004-03-12 Thread denny phelps
Hey all, is there any utility that will allow my 1400 powerbook to stay
lit longer before it goes into shutdown mode and the dimmer kicks in?
What I mean is, it dims permamently a good 20-30 minutes before the
battery runs completely out, which is annoying. I've tried Threshold by
Jeremy Keezer, but that doesn't really work.
117 mhz; System 8.5.1.
Thanks,
Denny

I used an IBM branded 56k Modem that I pulled out of a ThinkPad 770e. It
worked great with the US Robotics Universal modem script. I used to use
it on my 190cs, and I still use it today on my 3400c.

Bill,

The clock batteries are on the back of the board that has the top to bottom

Re: clock battery prob on 180c where to find it?

2004-03-12 Thread Richard Adams
Bill,

Mine is a PB 280C duo, so I'm not sure if the issues are the same, but it
does sound like the PRAM battery to me (performs the same basic function as
a CMOS battery on a PC). On the Duo 280, it's two watch-type batteries (I
believe they're actually welded together), surrounded in a sheath of
plastic, with a couple of wires coming out, if I recall correctly (been a
while since I had the Duo open, and I am admittedly far from an expert). On
the Duo, seems like it was under the keyboard and close to the hard drive.

I have a PB180c which appears in fine shape except that the day
time change constantly before my eyes. Setting Date Time in Control
Panels seems to have no effect. Would this be a clock/cmos battery
problem?
I have another 180c for parts that I have completely disassembled
looking for something resembling a small battery with no luck. Can
anyone tell me where to find it? My floppy seems to be shot as well,
and I want to reinstall, but would rather not go in more than once so
I'd really like to find this solution soon. Thanks for any input.

Hi,
I use a USR 56k modem, one, with all of my Powerbooks. From my 540c to my
2400c, and it delivers perfect performance on all. Always recognized (unlike some
others) and always useable (unlike my GV 33.6k+Ethernet card).

it came with a Global Village PowerPort PlatinumPro card. I'd like to use
it with the ethernet connection for our home DSL, but when I have the card

I've tried the GV website but nothing there seems to be the drivers I

3400c Internal Modem Confusion!

2004-03-12 Thread macdaniel3400c
It would be simply splashtastic to use the 33.6 Modem/Ethernet combo port
on my 3400c. However I cannot seem to get the modem to work (although
the Ethernet works fine - and its the same port!)

I select 3400c Internal Modem in the modem control panel, but I hear no
connecting noises.

It says Connection failed: Modem is not responding properly.

This is strange I think since it works fine when I hooke it up to the
network. What am I doing wrong?

In almost a year owning this thing I have never been able to get that to
work.

Always had to use a clumsy PCMCIA modem.

Check your extensions folder. You should have an extension called
PowerBook 3400/G3 33.6K Modem or something very similar sounding.
And of course you have to choose Internal Modem in the Modem Control
Panel, and the PowerBook 3400/G3 33.6K Script Modem.

Re: Anti-static bags

2004-03-12 Thread VidaVerde
but I've used plain, old ziplock plastic bags,
Those seem to be protective enough for shipping.
Normal plastic bags DEFINITELY kill electronics. Honest! Sellotape is
just as bad, by the way.

The anti-static bag is to protect against static dirt/water. You
can get a similar effect though by wrapping it in aluminium baking
foil.
