As others have already pointed out, some people are extremely sensitive to light while they're sleeping. Others, myself included, are not bothered by this as much. As far as addressing your question about which room my players are in, I currently have a Boom in the master bedroom on my nightstand. The other players are in my family room, game room and home theater. The Radio (which should arrive today :)) will be going in the guest bedroom. Assuming I like the Radio as much as I think I will, I'll probably buy a second one for my kitchen. This would be another scenario where adjustable dimming would come in handy. There would be no reason to dim it all the way down in the kitchen, and yet it would be nice to dim it somewhat at night to conserve energy. -- gweempose 2 Squeezebox Receivers 1 Squeezebox Classic 1 Squeezebox Boom 3 Squeezebox Controllers 1 Squeezebox Radio (in transit) gweempose's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9579 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69485 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Good question. I don't think we've really thought about it. I'll forward this question on to the UI designers to see how hard it is to change text color. I imagine it's quite simple. It could probably either be a built-in clock, or a plugin. -Caleb -- ccrome2 Caleb Crome Sr. Hardware Engineer Logitech SMBU (i.e. the Squeezebox people) The future is here. But I agree that some of us are very sensitive to light for sleeping. And for me as well, blue is really bad. I know from sailboat racing that most of their instruments use red lighting so as to not destroy your "night vision" ability. Our eyes seem to tolerate a fair amount of red light in ways that blue or white just can't do. I just get used 'gels' from the local theater and put them on everything that glows -- Pat Farrell http://www.pfarrell.com/ ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio use as bedside radio/alarm
FYI, I designed the dimming circuit for the display, and I'm super paranoid about things keeping me up at night. I made it so that even in a darkened bedroom, the dimmest setting is just readable. The current software does auto-dimming, or manual dimming -- you choose. There is still some optimization that needs to be done on the dimming algorithms, but it's really pretty good as is. Future software may allow even dimmer settings. -- ccrome2 Caleb Crome Sr. Hardware Engineer Logitech SMBU (i.e. the Squeezebox people) The future is here. With the auto adjustment enabled the screen goes really dim. Do not be affraid. I sleep in a dark room, and the screen is so dim that it is getting hard to even read the time. I would like to see an option where you can set the max dim and the max bright for the auto adjustment. -- Amauta SqueezeCenter 7.3.4 on Qnap TS-119. 3x Squeezebox2, 1 Squeezebox Classic, 1 BOOM, excellent sound!, One little RED Radio 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/Squeezebox_II/) Amauta's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69485 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I can only agree on the statements above! I was also afraid that the backlight of the radio will be to strong during the night - the first night together with the radio was horrible as the default setting is just to keep the light on but now I changed it to dimm automatically accoring to the surrounding and I am really impressed!! perfect stuff! :-) -- simsboard simsboard's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33135 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69485 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio use as bedside radio/alarm
It goes very dim in a dark room. If you turn the knob or touch any buttons, it will light up so you can read the screen and then go back to dim after a short time. If you want it completely dark, you can set "off" mode to screen off. I'm pretty sure that in this case turning the knob would not turn on the screen. Most likely you will find it gets dim enough with the automatic light sensor. -- MeSue SUE 1 Duet | 2 Booms | 1 Radio (beta) | 1 Touch (beta) | 1 SB2 HP MediaSmart EX470 | Squeezebox Server 7.4 Find me on 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/MeSue) | 'Twitter' (http://twitter.com/suechastain) MeSue's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=985 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69485 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Per default in the 'off' state there is a screensafer, which shows a digital clock (white letters) on black. When there is no light around this dims very low, so you still see the numbers but it doesn't illuminate the surroundings. I'm not disturbed at all by this but still can read the clock. [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio use as bedside radio/alarm
Before ordering the SB Radio some question's: I want to used it as a bedside radio/alarm. Is it totally dark when i want to go to sleep or is there a dim screen or so. when dark, is there a button for a back light or so, so that i can check the time. The reason why i'm asking is because i like the dark when sleeping, so it would be handy that the radio is dark and when i briefly wake up i want to check the time, then i click a button i have briefly light on the radio.
