Can anyone recommend a program that runs on linux (either a native app
or java) that is equivilent to Metastock on win32. It need not be open
source, commercial programs are fine. Metastock is the last program
chaining me to windows. I've browsed around freshmeat and google
searched but didn't find anything nearly as robust. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sorry for the OT post. Anyone out there using Watchguard firebox for their

like to configure, but am unsure how. I checked the WG site (forums) and the

I too am using a Watchguard FB700.

Although it is doing it's job, I do think that the support is really
lacking. I've had to learn using the firebox by 'trial and error' sorta a
speak.
Althought it is working, and doing it's job, I personally would like to
look into other firewall possibilities. Whether they be commercial, or a
box that I can setup on my own.

What questions did you have specifically about configuring items?

RE: ADSL with Earthlink over Covad using PPPoE

2003-01-30 Thread Ferguson, Michael
Telocity gave the modem 1 IP address 216.222.176.234 and the Computer
another 216.222.176.233
You might first have to configure the telocity modem http://10.5.2.1 or
something like that.
That's all I can remember. I switched to Comcast cable(fiber) and it is
blzing fast.

Hey gang,

We discussed this some in the recent past, but they are switching my
service over today, so I have some questions.

I'm using a Telocity (now DirecTV, soon to be nobody) ADSL modem,
and have opted to try to make it work with their system, rather than
spending the $26 to get their modem shipped to me (what can I say, I'm
cheap)...

I've already downloaded roaring penguin, it is ready for
installation.

1) I have a static IP, but do not know what it is.
2) I am currently configured for DHCP ethx configuration

1st question - has anyone else made this swithc? What I'm getting
at is this -did Telocity/DirecTV use PPPoE their modem handled it, so I
should just need to reset the modem maybe it will work?

2nd question - if the 1st quenstions' answer is no, what are the
steps I need to do to setup roaring penguin - yes, I know, RTFM, but I'm
looking for some insight, here

I think the big problem I have is going to be setting up my IP
address when I don't even know it. I understand that the modem that
Earthlink would ship me handles the PPPoE conversion itself uses DHCP for
my machines connection to it - Is this true? - THey call their modem a
Bridged Ethernet ADSL Modem (I think it's a two-wire job).

3rd question - what changes do I need to make to my startup scripts
(esp. for my ethernet *e.g. ifup, etc.*), to get the whole mess to work?

Thanks,
Tom

Subject: Is Squid my solution?

I have a Squid(Proxy) question that hopefully can be easily answered. We
currently run a commercial Proxy Server where we pay for each client that
uses it. That's not a big deal except that we have a bunch of users (say
200-300) that only connect to a couple web sites to do their job. Instead of
continuing to pay client licenses I think I could use Squid (or some other
open source proxy server) as their proxy.

I've looked at Squid's web site at the FAQ, and based on that, I think I can
do it, but before taking this to my boss and proposing it I want to make
sure.

Can I put up a Redhat machine running Squid and allow all users to hit only
a couple web sites? (I say all users because if they only go to these couple
sites it would probably be easier to just let anyone connect if they want to
use it as their proxy, hopefully without even
authenticating)

Is there another product besides Squid I should consider?

Thanks in advance!
James

My experience has been different. I use OO on Linux mostly and had a

To get it in the panel right lick on the panel and choose add to panel
and, launcher. then just type /usr/lib/ICAClient/wfica (or whatever the
program you want to run) in the command box.

My favorite way to get shortcuts onto my desktop is to put symlinks to them
in the

/home/username/.gnome-desktop/

directory. If you dont know how to create symlinks then here's the command
you will need

ln -s /usr/lib/ICAClient/wfica /home/username/.gnome-desktop/

That should sort it for you,

Hi Michael,

Could you find a way to automatically logon to
linux and invoke citrix client without any manual
intervention?

thanks and regards,
Sreedhar.

Hi Sreedhar
I am trying to accomplish the same thing here. With a RedHat 8.0
box.
I can hit the Citrix server through the Mozilla browser (http://192.168.131.7) across the
lan.
I authenticate and see all the published apps on the citrix
server but when I click an icon to launch the app it is prompting me to
download a file named boilerplate.asp.
