I'm using a Telocity (now DirecTV, soon to be nobody) ADSL modem, and have opted to try to make it work with their system, rather than spending the $26 to get their modem shipped to me (what can I say, I'm cheap)... I've already downloaded roaring penguin, it is ready for installation. 1) I have a static IP, but do not know what it is. 2) I am currently configured for DHCP ethx configuration 1st question - has anyone else made this swithc? What I'm getting at is this -did Telocity/DirecTV use PPPoE their modem handled it, so I should just need to reset the modem maybe it will work? 2nd question - if the 1st quenstions' answer is no, what are the steps I need to do to setup roaring penguin - yes, I know, RTFM, but I'm looking for some insight, here I think the big problem I have is going to be setting up my IP address when I don't even know it. I understand that the modem that Earthlink would ship me handles the PPPoE conversion itself uses DHCP for my machines connection to it - Is this true? - THey call their modem a Bridged Ethernet ADSL Modem (I think it's a two-wire job). 3rd question - what changes do I need to make to my startup scripts (esp. for my ethernet *e.g. ifup, etc.*), to get the whole mess to work? Squid it is. -Original Message- From: James Pifer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, January 07, 2003 2:23 PM To: RedHat List Subject: Is Squid my solution? I have a Squid(Proxy) question that hopefully can be easily answered. We currently run a commercial Proxy Server where we pay for each client that uses it. That's not a big deal except that we have a bunch of users (say 200-300) that only connect to a couple web sites to do their job. Instead of continuing to pay client licenses I think I could use Squid (or some other open source proxy server) as their proxy. I've looked at Squid's web site at the FAQ, and based on that, I think I can do it, but before taking this to my boss and proposing it I want to make sure. Can I put up a Redhat machine running Squid and allow all users to hit only a couple web sites? (I say all users because if they only go to these couple sites it would probably be easier to just let anyone connect if they want to use it as their proxy, hopefully without even authenticating) Is there another product besides Squid I should consider? It's not anywhere close to being compatible. Many MS Office documents can not be read or display incorrectly in OpenOffice. This issue exists in both the Windows and Linux versions of OO. Try it out at home first with some typical documents that your office uses and see what happens. I was very disappointed and ended up buying MS Office for my home desktops. OO couldn't even handle my trivial home files. My experience has been different. I use OO on Linux mostly and had a few thousand files that had been generated in Microsfot Word and Excel that OO had no trouble with at all. The only thing that looks funny sometimes is OO displays a ? for a -, but it prints the - ok. Whenever I save a file in OO I save it in Microsoft format and other people that need to open it in Word or Excel haven't had any problems either. -Warren -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list

I am looking to setup something like this: 1) user power-on his pc (it's a linux pc with citrix client) 2) linux 8.0 boots and directly opens citrix client 3) user provides his username and password for connecting to citrix server 4) all required applications for user are available thru citrix client I don't want user to make an explicit logon to linux window system (GNOME or KDE). Rather I don't need GNOME or KDE start at all if Citrix client can open directly (instead of desktop) using X server daemon. Please direct me which configuration files are the right ones to be modified so that linux OS boots and directly opens Citrix client without any manual intervention after power-on. Directing me to the documentation about X server and its startup process is also well enough for now. Thanks for all your help. Best regards, Sreedhar.

Title: Message I would have to search but a quick fix is to issue a create a general username and passowrd on all Linux boxes. Remember,Linux does REQUIRE a password to launch the system. Once the user authenticates locally on the Linux box then a startup script will launce the browser, which has the citrix server's http as the default. I would like some help.
