Re: [RDD] Streaming Troubles with edcast_jack
Thanks to all of you who provided input on this matter. Special thanks to you, Wayne, for the excellent tutorials you have provided! My ultimate solution was to upgrade to Wheezy (it seemed logical since most of liquidsoap's dependencies were Wheezy packages). I was not able to get the liquidsoap init to work, but I am able to start it from the JACK post-start script just fine. The broad functionality of liquidsoap is very nice, although its configuration is somewhat less than straightforward. Liquidsoap sends the stream to a local Icecast server, which is relayed by Live365. Metadata updates directly to Live365 via rom_shoutcast. Thanks again everyone! I'm not working with sc_serv, it's Live365's "nanocaster" or whatever they call it. And as mentioned previously, Live65 can be very finnicky. They are a tremendous thorn in the side, but I have to live with it for the time being at least. I was using a sound card with ALSA, but it's not needed. I am currently running in dummy mode and find the same results either way. I had initially tried darkice a couple of years ago but was never able to get it working in SHOUTcast mode. As I recall, Icecast worked fine. Live365 requires a SHOUTcast stream. Re: [RDD] Streaming Troubles with edcast_jack
How can I tell which user is "running" lame? No, you weren't snappy, I was just frustrated at myself for forgetting the entire reason for sending that reply. I've had some crossed wires in my brain lately it would seem. I like the idea of changing the buffer size, but I'm not sure how to do that. I thought that the 512 comes from the frames/period of 128 times four periods/buffer I tried other values for frames/period with the same result with edcast_jack ("ringbuffer full, tried to write 4096, but available 4095"). But when I change to 2 periods/buffer I get the same response ("ringbuffer full, tried to write 512, but available 511"). When I run sudo darkice I get a different output, which seems to indicate there may be a permissions problem. The output seems to show that darkice is trying to start JACK even though JACK is already running: Using config file: /etc/darkice.cfg Using JACK audio server as input device. [RDD] Streaming Troubles with edcast_jack
Hello all, I have been using edcast_jack for over a year to stream to Live365 and have had no trouble with it until recently. The stream has started periodically skipping or disconnecting. edcast_jack reports "ringbuffer full, tried to write 512, but available 511". Thus far I have been unable to find the cause of this problem. I have tried different combinations of settings in JACK (frames/period, etc.) and tried to renice the edcast_jack process, but the problem persists. I would consider using the SHOUTcast transcoder, but I can't figure out how to configure it to use JACK as its input device. I have never had any luck using darkice, and liquidsoap doesn't seem to me like the right tool for the job. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction to get edcast_jack working properly again? If not, can someone suggest a means by which to have the SHOUTcast transcoder register with JACK so that I can make the connection? I appreciate any help you can provide. I have searched and searched the net with no luck thus far. Re: [RDD] Automatic Log Generation
I love stupid ideas, because they're always the best! I am afraid I am, at the ripe old age of 30, becoming prematurely senile… Of course, we gained an hour on the morning of November 11. I made no adjustments for this; therefore I presume on that evening the playlist ran short, the Chain-To came up before log had been generated and everything ground to a halt. But after the proper log was started again the next morning, shouldn't everything have gone back to normal? [RDD] Automatic Log Generation
Hi all! I'm having a bit of trouble with RDLogManager generating the wrong day's log. RDCatch runs a macro cart each night at 23:30 to generate the next day's log: RN rdlogmanager -g -s WRSADB -d 1! What RDLogManager ends up generating is a log for the second day. For example, today is 11/22/2012, the current log is 2012_11_22 and the chain-to at the end of the log is for 2012_11_23. The log generated by RDLogManager is 2012_11_24. I honestly have no idea what I could have changed to cause this to suddenly start happening. Any thoughts? Can you then suggest a reasonable alternative to Live365 that WILL work with Linux? Perhaps I need a bit of clarification. I have installed darkice, and believe I have it configured correctly. However, when I run darkice, I get this: DarkIce 0.20.1 live audio streamer, http://darkice.tyrell.hu/ Copyright (c) 2000-2007, Tyrell Hungary, http://tyrell.hu/ Using config file: /etc/darkice.cfg Using JACK audio server as input device. [RDD] Streaming Questions
I'm hoping that someone can perhaps provide me with a good starting point for streaming from Rivendell. I am using Rivendell 2.0.2 and JACK under Unbuntu 10.04 LTS. I want to stream directly from JACK to Live365. I have Googled and searched the Rivendell list, but really can't figure out where to start. I've read about dark ice, darksnow, icecast, edcast-jack…. But can't even begin to figure out how to configure anything or make connections to JACK. Your help is greatly appreciated!
