I have been looking for sql'esq tools for the palm. I'd like to help
out if I can.

I'm currently using cygwin to compile my palm apps, is that still
viable? (*I have not used sqlite yet, though I did see a compile HOWTO
for cygwin*)

I downloaded the code from above and started tooling around. I assume I
need to download the sqlite 2.8.9 version to get the make's and config's
and stuff?

So, my next question: It looks like the code can be compiled to use pdb
format or FileStream's. What about VFS so databases can reside entirely
on an expansion card? I'd like to be able to send out a 50 meg database
and just pull in the little pieces I need. What'cha think?

So are there any devices out that even use OS 6 yet? Does it still have
the same three file systems: pdb, FileStream and VFS? Are they changing
any that would break backward compatability? (*I'm currently using OS 5
and 4.2 (or whatever the 4 series is up to)*)

2004-06-04 Thread Warren Taylor
There is a PalmOS port of SQLite available. Mr. Taylor
on this list kindly sent me the code of his work on
the Palm port. I have not tested it on Palm Vx but I
do believe it works(Mr. Wayne can correct me if I am
wrong). I am working on Palm OS 6 port of SQLite but
haven't been able to get far as my dev machines either
keep crashing (for some totally different reasons) or
they get utilized for something else. When will I be
able to complete the port is an eternal question ;-)
Let me know if you need the code.

I think it is a good idea to put the code and put a link in wiki as
Puneet Kishor said.
I have Palm OS 3.5

Thanks

With regard to the code that I ported for the Palm OS...
All worked well with a minimal test application but when I put in into my full size
application the SELECT statements ran very slow under Palm OS 5 and would not run at
all under Palm OS 3.5 due to insufficient memory and stack space. I have a few ideas
about how to get around the limitation imposed by the Palm OS but I just have to find
the time to try it out.
Another potential problem has to do with indexes and hotsynch'ing but that one is
fairly involved.

I tried to upload the code to the wiki but wasn't able
to do so due to 100K limit of the attachment. Over the
weekend I will upload the code to my own site and post
the link on this list as well as update the wiki :-)

Hello,

I think it is certainly possible, although you might need to spend some time searching
for an option that works.

I was working on a project that needed my to install a database on a mobile device
called an Intel Personal Server. It's just like an ipaq, but without the screen. I
installed sqlite without any problems. The following website has pre-built packages
for handheld devices, so you can try that. Just search for sqlite and libsqlite.

I use a palm Vx. The biggest problem, in my opinion, i can't find a good
databse for this device.
I want to ask you if sqlite may run on palm.
Is it possible?
Is there a version for this device or is it planned?

Thanks

why not put the code out on some publicly accessible space and make a
