Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Playback from Windows 10 using all 5.1 speakers?
OK I think I've found a solution. I discovered and installed a Windows app called Realtek Audio Console. If I set the Speaker Configuration in this app to "5.1 Speaker" and turn on the "Speaker Fill" option I get stereo audio routed through all 5.1 channels :0) itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114788 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I did find an app called Realtek Audio Console, which allows me to set my Speaker Configuration to 5.1, but I still only get output from the front 2 speakers when I play back a stereo track. itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114788 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Playback from Windows 10 using all 5.1 speakers?
Windows recognises the 5.1 system. and I can test all 5 speakers successfully, but a stereo audio stream only plays back over the front 2 speakers. I think it would need some sort of pre-processing to convert it to multichannel format?? itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114788 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Playback from Windows 10 using all 5.1 speakers?
I use Squeezelite-X for playback on my main desktop PC. I was wondering whether there was any way of sending audio to all of the surround speakers, rather than just the front two? My speakers are Cambridge Soundworks DTT2200. I use the onboard Realtek sound on my B450 Aorus Elite motherboard (which has separate outputs for front/rear/centre-sub). My Onkyo AV amp in the lounge has a setting which "upscales" 2-channel stereo into a 5.1 setup, and I really enjoy listening to music that way. itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114788 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Stream to Windows 10 renderer from LMS on Linux?
I'd like to render LMS mp3 streams to my Windows 10 desktop (from my Linux-based LMS server). I've tried Squeezelite but it prematurely skips to the next track all the time, and I gave up trying to fix it. I've just read that it is possible to stream from LMS to a web browser using a local URL - e.g. http://192.168.1.*1:9000/stream.mp3 I've just tried this and there seems to be a very long lag (maybe 1 minute?) between requesting playback on the LMS web GUI and playback on the browser. I also can't get skip/pause controls to work that way either. Can anyone recommend a good way of streaming to a Windows 10 renderer in a way which can be controlled fully from the LMS web GUI? itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113677 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] API command to simulate Play button on Squeezebox Boom remote?
I've been automating my LMS commands using Google Home/IFTTT/Home Assistant/LMS HTTP commands. I would like to send a command which will emulate pressing the Play button on my Squeezebox Boom remote. Specifically, if I have have paused playback on the Squeezebox Boom, turned it off, and then press the Play button, I want it to resume playback from where it left off (usually mid-song). However, when I execute the command below it always resumes playback from the *start *of the last track that was playing, rather than resuming mid-track: curl -X GET "http://192.168.1.10:9000/status.html?player=00:12:34:56:78:90&p0=play";' Is there an alternative API command that I can use to turn the Squeezebox Boom back on and resume playback from wherever in the track it was last playing? itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108863 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Problem migrating Squeezeplay client to new LMS server
I recently migrated my LMS server from a Windows 2008 Server platform to a Lubuntu machine (I'm running v7.9.1). All is working fine apart from a Squeezeplay client on my Windows 10 desktop. I used the LMS web GUI to move it from the old server to the new server, but whenever I stop and restart the Squeezeplay client it will not re-connect to the new LMS server. The new server also doesn't get shown on the list of servers if I try to use the Switch Library option. The only way to reconnnect the Squeezeplay client is to restart the old LMS server (on the Windows 2008 machine), then move it to the new Lubuntu LMS server. The exact steps I take are: 1. Open Squeezeplay - I get "Problem connecting" trying to connecting to the LMS Server (the old one, which is stopped) 2. Start old LMS server - Squeezeplay connects to it 3. Go to LMS web GUI for new LMS server and select Squeezeplay - choose option to switch it to this server 4. Squeezeplay connects to new server and all is fine until... 5. Close Squeezeplay 6. Stop old LMS server 7. Re-open Squeezeplay - once again I get "Problem connecting" trying to connecting to the LMS Server (the old one, which is stopped) ...then repeat from 2 above I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Squeezeplay but it didn't help. How can I get the Squeezeplay client to "stick" to the new LMS server? itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108449 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Artist name sorting anomaly
My list of artists is sorted by full name, so "David Bowie" will appear under "D" in the LMS web GUI for example. For some reason Elvis Costello (and nobody else as far as I can tell) is filed under "C". I am baffled at this, because all of my Elvis Costello tracks have the artist name set to "Elvis Costello". Any idea why Elvis is filed under "C", while everyone else is filed according to their first name?? eyeD3 tag info for one of his tracks is below: Code: /media/USB4Tb/Music/Elvis Costello/Trust/01.Clubland.mp3[ 6.85 MB ] Time: 03:43 MPEG1, Layer III[ ~256 kb/s @ 44100 Hz - Joint stereo ] ID3 v2.3: title: Clubland artist: Elvis Costello album: Trust album artist: Elvis Costello composer: Elvis Costello recording date: 1981 track: 1 genre: Rock (id 17) Publisher/label: Rykodisc Comment: [Description: ] [Lang: eng] Comment: [Description: ] [Lang: eng] Trust, his fifth studio album, finds Costello moving closer to the pinched sophistication that would occasionally subsume his intelligent directness over the following years. But save for a couple of weak numbers, it offers the best of both worlds, with the Attractions lending heft to the cunning and well-observed "Clubland," "Watch Your Step," and "New Lace Sleeves." Rykodisc's reissue includes "Sad About Girls," a cut from the Costello-less band's own Mad About the Wrong Boy, among its nine bonus tracks. --Rickey Wright FRONT_COVER Image: [Size: 32440 bytes] [Type: image/jpg] Description: PRIV: [Data: 39 bytes] Owner Id: WM/MediaClassPrimaryID PRIV: [Data: 41 bytes] Owner Id: WM/MediaClassSecondaryID PRIV: [Data: 31 bytes] Owner Id: WM/WMContentID PRIV: [Data: 138 bytes] Owner Id: WM/UniqueFileIdentifier PRIV: [Data: 34 bytes] Owner Id: WM/WMCollectionID PRIV: [Data: 39 bytes] Owner Id: WM/WMCollectionGroupID PRIV: [Data: 20 bytes] Owner Id: WM/Provider itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108430 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

That's the desired result, yes, but since my collection is 99% OK at the moment I really don't want to perform large scale modifications to my files or folders - they could end up in a much worse state than they are now. For example, I just tried doing a complete export of my tracks from mp3tag and there were alot of inaccuracies in the output (data in the wrong columns, etc). I don't know how reliable EyeD is with large collections, but I'd be nervous about letting make alot of changes. My preference is definitely to run queries to identify the problems, then fix the problems individually using EyeD or Mp3tag. itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108251 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

In my mind I imagined dumping a list of all the artist/album data from LMS to a CSV file, then using SQL to find the duplicates. I would then go in and correct them "manually" using something like Tag&Rename or Mp3tag. itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108251 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Some Albums Show Up Twice
I have the same problem with albums being duplicated in LMS, but in some cases I can't work out exactly what I need to do to correct the problem. For example, one of the albums that is duplicated in my library is divided into two separate sets of tracks. Both sets of tracks are in the same physical location, and have identical values for the artist and album name, but for some reason are listed as different albums in my library. Here's an example of the tags from two tracks which are listed as being on different albums: 24007 24006 I'm guessing that the reason they're treated as different albums is that they don't have exactly the same range of tags populated, but does anyone know exactly what the criteria are for LMS to regard two tracks as being in different albums? For example, if some of the tracks have a "Comment" tag will they be regarded as being in a different album to those that don't, even if all of the other tags are identical? Also, does anyone know of a way of doing the following for LMS libraries: - Listing duplicate albums (i.e. albums which have the same artist and album name but which occur more than once in the LMS library) - Bulk removing tags from a large library (e.g. deleting all TPE2 tags from a library of 90,000 tracks)? +---+ |Filename: 20171112 mp31.jpg| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=24007| +---+ itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73928 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Many thanks for all the feedback. I think I'll try Jeff07971's suggestion first and try a VMFS datastore first (I can't remember why I chose RDM in the first place). At least I know I have the network storage option as an acceptable alternative if the disk gets corrupted again - subject to the caveat about scan times, of course. itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107853 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Performance using network drive for music storage? (LMS running in virtual machine)
Does anyone know if there's a major performance hit if you use a network storage device for your music? I run LMS 7.9.0 on a Windows 2008 Server Virtual Machine, running on an ESXi host. My music is stored on a 4TB NTFS-formatted SATA drive. I've tried connecting this drive to the ESXi host machine in a couple of ways (e.g. internally connected directly to the SATA controller, and externally in a USB enclosure), and mapping it using RDM, but the VM environment doesn't handle it well at all - the disk always becomes corrupt after a relatively short period of time. Probably a hardware compatibility issue between the drive (a WD Blue) and ESXi. Or maybe the size of the drive is a problem for ESXi. Anyway I'm now thinking of transplanting the drive to my Linux file server in the loft, and pointing LMS at it from the Windows VM downstairs, but wanted to get feedback on whether this is a good idea before I embark on the whole process. Ah it seems that it only appears in the Playlist Folder when you've saved it with a name (in the left pane of the web UI). Clicking the Save button at the bottom of the right-hand pane doesn't seem to save a file anywhere. OK I'll try a re-scan and see if it finds everything now itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107628 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I have manually edited a playlist created in LMS 7.9.0 (Windows 2008 Server), but I can't get the changes to the playlist to take effect in LMS. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Keep-awake suggestions for LMS on Windows Server?
I did upgrade to 7.9, and have now disabled the scheduled search script. Searches are still pretty quick, so the improvement must have been down to either the cache size setting or the old release (or a combination of the two of course). Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Keep-awake suggestions for LMS on Windows Server?
So far so good. Today's "first search of the day" returned results in less than 10 seconds, with no timeouts. Whether the improvement was due to the scripted searches running at regular intervals, or the change to the cache size setting, isn't clear. Many thanks for all your input - I now have a workable LMS setup again (I hope!) itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105787 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Keep-awake suggestions for LMS on Windows Server?
Thanks for all the feedback - some really useful stuff. I've changed the cache size setting as recommended. I've also spent a couple of hours investigating the Squeezebox CLI, and have worked out how to run a telnet/VBS job on a regular schedule to do an LMS search. I've had it running every 15 minutes for the last couple of hours. So far all of my searches have responded in a few seconds, but the proof of the pudding will be the first search that I try tomorrow morning (I have the first "dummy" search scheduled to go at 8am). If I don't see a significant improvement I'll look into HDParm to see if I can keep the USB drive "warm". If all of that fails then I guess a hardware solution will be the next thing - a decent internal HDD for the music folder and possibly an SSD for the O/S as well. That's an altogether pricier solution of course! itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105787 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Keep-awake suggestions for LMS on Windows Server?
I've also noticed that, after the first search, subsequent searches are really quick (less than 5 seconds). Is is possible to script a search command which can be sent to LMS on a regular basis to keep it "fresh"? That's an interesting idea. I did a trial run by running a dir command manually, then doing a both a browse of my main music folder (on the USB drive) and a search. Both were still quite sluggish (at least 30 seconds to return a response). During that time I could hear the -internal- drive of the server getting hammered (i.e. not the LMS data USB drive). I have a large collection (90k tracks, 6k albums). As a matter of interest, is there anyone out there who has a similar size collection, and if so what sort of response times do you get when browsing and searching? The machine is an Intel Q6600 2.4GHz, with 4Gb RAM, running Win Server 2008.
