[Trisquel-users] Icedove 68.8.0 cannot get add-ons on Trisquel 8
Trying to install add-ons on Icedove: 1. Open Icedove. 2. Open the Add-on Manager by pressing F10 to make the Menu bar visible, then deploying the Tools menu, then clicking on the Add-ons item. 3. Introduce the name of the extension on the field "Search for more extensions", then press Enter. The results show that the entire add-on installation is misdirected to Abrowser: -A new tab in Icedove is open, showing a web page corresponding to the search, whose address is "https://trisquel.info/en/browser-plain?keys=; and then the search term. Notice the "browser" in the address. On an unrelated note, this web page can be displayed all the same in a browser, just by copying the address and pasting it at the browsers address bar. -The add-ons search results are always related to ABROWSER, never to ICEDOVE - Greasemonkey will appear, Enigmail or Lightning will not. -Clicking on the name of one extension appearing in the results will open the extension web page, this time in the browser rather than in an Icedove tab. This web page, with an address beginning with "https://trisquel.info/en/browser/addons/;, offers a link for "Install extension", but not for downloading it. Again, notice the "browser" in the address. -Clicking on the "Install extension" link causes the extension to be installed in ABROWSER, not ICEDOVE! -Right-clicking the "Install extension" link allows for downloading the .xpi file, which can then be tried to install from the Add-on Manager by clicking on the gear icon, clicking on the Menu item "Install add-on from a file..." and then selecting the file. However I cannot attest that this works as intended because so far all of the add-ons that I downloaded were rejected because of incompatibility with Icedove 68.8.0. Really, I cannot find an Add-On that works right with Icedove 68.8.0, other than the three that come installed with it. -Fix: I guess that I should try to download and install the add-ons from the Thunderbird store then.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 9 Graphical ISO available for testing
Hello Recently, I installed Trisquel 9.0 on my second x200. Everything works out-of-the-box. But I have some remarks: - abrowser is asking to update to version 74, but this is not done due to libnss3 (>= 2:3.47) but 2:3.35-2ubuntu2.7 should be installed, this isn't a great deal, but it is annoying to see 1 update everytime when I run sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade - I also use nextcloud, but it isn't available. I assume it is because of this package qt5-webengine, is there a possibility to create a nextcloud-client version without qt5-webengine? (like Parabola did)[1] - also 3 missing plugin packages: webext-https-everywhere, webext-noscript, webext-ublock-origin. Are those going to be added? If not they can be added via abrowser extension tab. I also tried mini.iso, but that one didn't worked, when choosing the desktop environment, it keeps failing, without debug info. -- [1]: https://www.parabola.nu/packages/libre/x86_64/nextcloud-client/

My script was just good for my own. But you have brought it to next level. I will adapt my script and use yours as it is more complete and userfriendlier then what I have written then. Thank you for your input and contribution. :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] PDF compressor
I while ago, I have created a snippet for myself. Here you can read about it https://adem.ayt.ac/p/2018-07-18_compressing_scanned_pdfs It was on parabola. But should also work on Trisquel.
[Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 and X200 Tablet prices on minifree.org reduced
Hi everyone :) Minifree sell laptops with entirely free software, including the BIOS replacement (libreboot). Recently, I've decided to sell the X200 and X200 Tablet for much lower prices than usual. I've also decided to now offer the laptops with docking stations included at no extra cost (previously this was an add-on). The laptops are at https://minifree.org/ if you're interested. Happy hacking! Leah
Re: [Trisquel-users] installing Trisquel 8 and mini fail on x60s
I already have the feeling that you are trying to do most of the things by yourself, which is great. But don't give up. If you fail 10 times, try 11th time, with the hope of succeeding, which is helping a lot. Using guides are good, but sometimes outdated, or some critical parts aren't explained well, if you have 2 x60s, if you have the time to spend, try using one as your testing device, and try whatever test you can imaging, if you follow a guide, try to change some steps in that guide which feels convenient. for example, Guide: run this command with this parameters You: run this command with other parameters and see what is happening, ah I crashed it, so I start over with some other parameters, ...

Re: [Trisquel-users] How to install adapta-gtk-theme on Trisquel
Thank you. I'm new to rofi, the theming is done and I'm using the latest version from the ppa. Until now, I like it, it's simple and fast. Before rofi I was using albert[1] launcher. Which I also love to use. It's easy to configure and has a gui. And also easy theme switcher. And has much more features then rofi(until now). Why the switch? I don't know, I wanted to try rofi out, before chosing the one to select. [1]: https://github.com/albertlauncher/albert

Re: [Trisquel-users] How to install adapta-gtk-theme on Trisquel
Following the askbuntu url, I didn't had any trouble installing it. I followed this tutorial[1][2][3] to install i3wm, he is using Arc(Dark) Theme with Moka icons and "System San Fransisco Font"[4]. And he is using FontAwesome for icons. Also installed Rofi. I started to use the same build as he did in the tutorial, but I changed it with Adapta(-Nokto-Eta) with Papirus Icons and NotoSans Font. I Also use FontAwesome for icons and rofi. I changed the Font from NotoSans to SanFransisco, I find it personally better fitting to Adapta. One Issue with that font is, I didn't find license on the github page... Rofi in Trisquel doesn't have all modi's, like my setup on Parabola. In Parabola I'm using "rofi -show drun...", while "drun" isn't available for Trisquel(I'm searching how I can add it). So when using rofi, I don't see any application icons, which is also nice to have. I forget to set the theme of Rofi to Adapta(so it is the basic theme). Re: [Trisquel-users] Start a Business Using Only Free and Open Source Tools!
I know, there exist beautifull designed free software. When I writed my reply, I was thinking more like: Microsoft Office vs LibreOffice(which came from OpenOffice) MacOs desktop vs mate (of course you can confugire it, but macos is already configured) Personally I switched to i3-gaps and adapta-nokto theme and papyrus icon set. Thanks to threads on this forum :) A little bit of "agressive" marketing can help :) Example, convincing a hardware producer to sell with Free os, instead of Windows. Adding ads on website(like youtube, facebook, twitter), so more people can see it and know about FreeSoftware. I know this is a little bit against the principles, but the more people know it, the more people will be interested. Try to convince family and friends in using FreeSoftware and Hardware. Try to convince non-profits to use freeSoftware(software can be free, so let them pay for the service), reusing refurbished hardware is more ecological(with libreboot) and cheaper then buying a new hardware to replace every 3-4 years, because we can't update the firmware. When deploying a service for a client, explain the license they apply for and whatever they can do with it, and what they can't do. While doing business with clients, try to convince them multiple times(give your personal experience with FreeSoftware).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Setting up a server
If you just want to host static files. Just installing apache is enough, there is also nginx, which works the same way, just configuration is different. Use the one you are familiar with. You don't need to change to another server if you plan to host only static server. Most of the other things(you mentioned) can also be installed next to it. But if you are going to have lots of users, which will use all those programs, then you can consider upgrading to x200/T400 or to servers mentioned at Libreboots website with more ram/cpu/disc-space. Or another way is to host everything on different less powered servers, so each one performs only specific task. For hosting from home, you need to do couple of things. 1) open port 80 and 443 at your isp's website. (Most isp's blocks them for "security" reason) 2) if you received a router from your isp, with custom firmware, open the ports there as well. 2.1) you need to forward those ports to your servers (local)ip address. 3a) if you have a static ip, go to your search provider and type "what is my ip", if you dont use a vpn service(nordvpn, expressvpn, ...) or tor, then you can see your ip, provided by your isp) 3b) if you don't have static ip from you isp, subscribe to a dynamic dns service(no-ip.com, dyndns.com, ...) (I will use dyndns in this post as an example, but you are free to use another) 3b.1) if it's possible, set the dyndns credentials in your routers gui 3b.2) if router isn't an option, install dyndns client in your server and enter your credentials. 3b.3) if you don't want to do that, try to find the endpoints of dyndns, and make a cron job on your server(every hour), to make an http request to that endpoint using curl or wget. So it will update your ip every hour. Be carefull: when you host from home, your ip and location will be tracable. If it is possible, set a vlan on your router, so you separate your server traffic from your private traffic. If vlan is difficult, connect your servers directly to your router provided by your isp and disable wifi, connect another router(with librecmc) to a free ethernet port on your isp-router, and use the librecmc router to connect all your private devices, and you can setup vpn tor adblock, whatever you want in it and enable wifi. Once your static server is setup, you can go to the url provided by dyndns(something like blablabla.dyn-dns.net), and you can see your webpage. Btw, if you also want https access, use let's encrypt(https://certbot.eff.org/lets-encrypt/ubuntuxenial-apache), follow the steps there after installing apache.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Start a Business Using Only Free and Open Source Tools!
Most people don't care about software being Free or not, the code being opensourced or not. They just want to do their computing. Most of the time when I tell people(who don't know much about free/non-free), that I sell librebooted laptops and Free hardware, I need to explain what it is, why Free Software is important, ... non-free "beautiful" designed software is more attractive in general, than "outdated"(or retro) looking free software. The problem is, there aren't enough attention in the educational system about Free/Open software or hardware. I didn't know about Free Software Movement until 2015, before that, I was frustrated that GPL didn't existed(because I thought so), then did my own research to find out that it already existed way before I was born ;). Generally, people know about Linux(not Gnu/Linux), they think free software is gratis. So when you pay to a software it is more valuable, there is a professional team behind it, so it looks also beautiful, and free(gratis) is some nerd developing in the attic without great looking (design) software.

Re: [Trisquel-users] The best terminal?
I use Konsole on KDE and Sakura on other distros. Konsole is integrated in KDE, but Sakura does whatever I need. As shell, I use zsh, which is easier to change the behaviour of it using plugins (eg. autocomplete, autosuggest, highlight, change theme of your shell,...)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Why does installing Trisquel 7 updates cancel my sound system?
Do you have a spare usb-drive to install live-setup. So instead of formatting your main drive, you can check if the problem is only with your os or kernel or not. If you don't mind, try with Trisquel 8 and Mini version, or with any other distro your comfortable with. (maybe even Ubuntu, even if it's not endorsed by Free community, so you can check if it's free/non-free kernel dependent?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Christmas Discount on Minifree's Libre WNDR3800 router
UPDATE: A lot of people complained about lack of technical details about the router. I've now updated the page, to include detailed specifications. Hope this helps!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Christmas Discount on Minifree's Libre WNDR3800 router
I'm looking into it. At present, I pack the routers into a 30x20x10cm box and the package weighs about 1.5kg. I currently use UPS like I do for the laptops, and the shipping cost is about the same. That being said, these routers don't need as much padding as I use. I could concievably pack them into smaller boxes and use a cheaper carrier. I generally prefer to use UPS though. They offer a very fast service and they're extremely reliable.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Christmas Discount on Minifree's Libre WNDR3800 router
Thanks CalmStorm. I aim to please :)
[Trisquel-users] Christmas Discount on Minifree's Libre WNDR3800 router
Hi everyone :) Minifree already had the Libre WNDR3800 router on sale, for 50 EUR, coming with a libre uboot and libreCMC preinstalled, making it a fully libre router. For the christmas period, Minifree is now offering this at a discounted price. The new price as of right now is 38 EUR. If you require bulk (at least 5) routers we can also offer lower prices than this. Routers are here: https://minifree.org/product/minifree-wndr3800-libre-router/ ~Leah
Re: [Trisquel-users] Christmas Discount on Minifree's Libre WNDR3800 router
btw shipping prices on minifree have also come down recently. UK was 20 EUR, now it's 15 EU was 45 EUR, now it's 25 US/CA was 60, now 45 Rest of world is still 80 EUR as usual.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot laptops on Minifree heavily discounted for 2018 christmas season
cool :) Minifree is well-stocked at the moment. We have about 50 X200 Tablets flashed and ready to ship. Plenty of X200 and T400 flashed too. FSF will soon announce their FSF giving guide and sales will get pretty hectic, so I and my worker are preparing in advance.
[Trisquel-users] Libreboot laptops on Minifree heavily discounted for 2018 christmas season
HI everyone :) Minifree's line of FSF-endorsed Libreboot laptops, which come with a fully libre BIOS replacement (libreboot) and Trisquel preinstalled, have been heavily discounted as of today. The X200 Tablet is reduced by 40 EUR in price. X200 by 50 EUR T400 by 50 EUR This discount will last until end of January 2019. https://minifree.org/ Happy hacking! ~Leah
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree now selling libre routers with libreCMC preinstalled :)
well the extra 25 EUR overhead is paying for convenience... of having everything done for you in advance. and also support in case you need it (I provide free tech support to all customers. I'm quite knowledgeable with networking, and a skilled sysadmin, so I can answer most questions about these routers)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree now selling libre routers with libreCMC preinstalled :)
Price is now reduced. Was 98 EUR, now 50 EUR. This is the final price reduction.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree now selling libre routers with libreCMC preinstalled :)
Hey everyone :) I listened to feedback, and concluded that the price was still too high. Therefore, I've made a final price reduction: the router is now 50 EUR on Minifree.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Librebox (with Coreboot) - Hello Again
hey there :) nice effort, though I just have to say one thing: I took one glance at the website for libretrend and saw: "core i7" Which means that these systems are proprietary, and not libre at all. They come with the Intel Management Engine out of the box: https://libreboot.org/faq.html#intelme Furthermore, coreboot these days doesn't actually have source code. Most of the hardware initialization is handled by binary blobs. These libretrend systems are *not* libreboot-compatible. I say these things only for those people who wish to have an entirely libre system. For people who don't care and just want coreboot (regardless of blobs) and a free OS, then libretrend is OK. But know what you are buying! If you want a fully libre system, FSF-endorsed, with libreboot preinstalled, then buy from one of these companies: https://libreboot.org/suppliers.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree X200 Review
yeah the battery life is higher, since it's the same capacity but the x200 has a smaller screen. in idle usage, the screen is the most power consuming part of the system
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree now selling libre routers with libreCMC preinstalled :)
minifree doesn't currently accept bitcoin
Re: [Trisquel-users] Leaving Trisquel over systemd Concerns, Fantastic Project Otherwise, Thanks
@jxself i mean, to be fair, systemd is crap. i run it on all my systems though without issue
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree X200 Review
btw the X200 and T400 are exactly the same performance-wise. same CPU and GPU, same RAM. the only major difference is the keyboard size, screen size and a few other physical aspects, but it's the same hardware inside
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree now selling libre routers with libreCMC preinstalled :)
one other thing... these routers are really hard to get in europe. most of them are in USA. so I import them in bulk from suppliers in the US. This means that european customers who buy from minifree won't have to deal with expensive USA-European shipping. Plus UK-European shipping is much faster than if you were to import one from USA yourself.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree now selling libre routers with libreCMC preinstalled :)
The wndr3800 as sold by Netgear already has a free bootloader (uboot) and they provide source code. This can also be replaced by uboot_mod, but freedom-wise this is unnecessary, though it may unlock more features. I'm currently waiting on a large shipment of these routers, and I will be re-flashing the bootloader on all of them. However, Netgear sells these routers with a non-free operating system. Minifree replaces that operating system with libreCMC, which is FSF-endorsed. These routers are then sold with libreCMC.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree X200 Review
thank you for your review :) btw shipping times on minifree are really fast now. i was away in thailand for a while and then had difficulty with initial surgery recovery. me and my new employee have everything under wraps now. as of today, we have a backlog on the T400 orders (11 orders) due to stock issues: new T400 stock is expected in a day or so, so that backlog will clear this week. as for X200/X200T, those ship pretty much instantly now, when there is an order. my new employee is very good. much more efficient than i ever was. he now handles all flashing/shipping, and i just do emails. this allows me to answer emails quickly... and now i have time again to focus on actual research e.g. libreboot development
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree now selling libre routers with libreCMC preinstalled :)
Well yes they are refurbished. It's not possible to buy these routers new anymore. However, they're in excellent condition. Routers tend to last many years.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree now selling libre routers with libreCMC preinstalled :)
Yeah the price isn't that much higher than if you were to buy the router yourself. If you're lucky you can get it for like 80 EUR. But then you have to source it yourself and make sure it's the right version (not all of them support libreCMC. minifree makes sure to get the ones that are supported).

Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 Tablet now available on Minifree. With Trisquel 8 preinstalled
The X200T documentation is virtually non-existent in Libreboot, since it's the same schematic and board design for the most part. The digitizer needs to be documented, as you quite rightly point out. The flashing process also needs to be documented (there is an incomplete guide currently under review, not yet merged).

Minifree has been selling this for a while now. It's a completely libre laptop/tablet that comes with Libreboot and Trisquel preinstalled. There is a thread about it here: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/libreboot-x200-tablet-now-available-minifree-trisquel-8-preinstalled The Free Software Foundation has today officially endorsed this product, under their Respects Your Freedom certification. You can read about it here: https://www.fsf.org/news/minifree-libreboot-x200-tablet-now-fsf-certified-to-respect-your-freedom
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 Tablet now available on Minifree. With Trisquel 8 preinstalled
Eemeli, could you document this on libreboot.org? Libreboot docs are mostly for libreboot itself, but for things like this we often merge documentation to help people. Info about submitting patches to the libreboot docs are here: https://libreboot.org/git.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] What's the most modern hardware I can use for Trisquel? Need free software graphics.
Products that we at Technoethical offer and can recommend from our current catalog are the desktop-replacements: 1) the T500 laptop upgraded with quad core processors and 2) the D16 workstation with minimal specs. We advise against buying computers with nonfree BIOS or partially nonfree BIOS.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What's the most modern hardware I can use for Trisquel? Need free software graphics.
Actually, the ThinkPad T400s is the single most modern laptop (product launched by Lenovo in June 2009) that has free software graphics and works with a fully free BIOS, with the ME blob removed. For one year our shop has been selling worlwide the Technoethical T400s certified by the FSF to Respect Your Freedom (RYF). https://tehnoetic.com/tet-t400s Richard Stallman himself has purchased the Technoethical T400s and he's been using it as his personal laptop since November 2017. https://stallman.org/stallman-computing.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 Tablet now available on Minifree. With Trisquel 8 preinstalled
If you have some X200 Tablets and you want Libreboot on them, you could send them to Minifree for flashing. Minifree has a Libreboot Installation Service: https://minifree.org/product/libreboot-installation-service/ Price is per laptop/system flashed, but if you're sending more than 2 laptops, email me and I'll send you an invoice with a special price.

Hopefully the FSF RYF announcement will be out soon.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 Tablet now available on Minifree. With Trisquel 8 preinstalled
Some might have it, but I'm not currently focusing on that. You could mention it in the textbox on the checkout page, and I'd see if I have one that has it. Some X200 Tablets have it, some don't, according to thinkwiki.
[Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 Tablet now available on Minifree. With Trisquel 8 preinstalled
Hi everyone :) Libreboot is a fully free (as in freedom) BIOS replacement, which initializes the hardware and loads your operating system. Minifree is known in the Trisquel community for providing laptops with this preinstalled alongside Trisquel. As of today, Minifree has launched a new product: the Libreboot X200 Tablet. This is similar to the regular Libreboot X200 which the Free Software Foundation already endorses. The X200 Tablet has these improvements over the X200: * Better screen. It has an IPS panel, which provides better colour/contrast and viewing angles. * Built-in wacom tablet with a stylus pen, which can be used for drawing. The performance is similar to the X200. A sample of the X200 Tablet from Minifree has been sent to the Free Software Foundation, for evaluation under their Respects Your Freedom certification. I'm confident that it will be certified, since they already certify the X200, and the built-in wacom tablet is fully functional in libre GNU+Linux distros. Here it is: https://minifree.org/product/libreboot-x200-tablet/ ~Leah

Hi everyone :) The Libreboot X200/T400 laptops come with Trisquel pre-installed, by default. They also come with Libreboot installed, which is a completely free/libre BIOS replacement. These systems are endorsed by the Free Software Foundation. All of the hardware is fully supported by free drivers, making this a completely freedom-respecting system. The version of Trisquel preinstalled is Trisquel 7. Upon request, the pre-release version of Trisquel 8 on trisquel.info can also be preinstalled. Mention it in the textbox on the checkout page, if you want this. As soon as Trisquel 8 is officially released, Minifree will provide version 8 by default. Minifree is currently running a discount sales push on both the Libreboot X200 and Libreboot T400, in order to make them more accessible to the public. This discount will apply for as long as it is feasible, per increased sales volumes that are expected as a result of this discount. You may remember that Minifree ran such a discount on its products before. Hopefully, this time it will be permanent. Minifree currently has a large surplus of stock. Additionally, I now have 4 third parties flashing laptops on my behalf, selling systems to Minifree. This means that Minifree can now handle higher order volumes, which has enabled the discount. Previously, this arrangement was not possible, so the prices were higher to compensate for over-demand. The main intention: to help more people be able to purchase a system with Libreboot preinstalled, by making these systems more affordable. The primary purpose of Minifree, since its inception, has been to bring libre systems to the masses. The X200 base price has been reduced to 228 EUR (previously 298 EUR). The T400 is now 278 EUR (previously 398 EUR). The 8G RAM upgrade on both systems was previously 110 EUR, now it's 100 EUR. The SSD price has risen from 110 EUR to 150 EUR, with capacity increased from 240GB to 480GB. Additionally, the Libreboot Installation Service has been reduced from 248 EUR to 150 EUR. The extra batteries have been reduced from 50 EUR to 25 EUR. The docking station (sold separately) has been reduced from 50 EUR to 30 EUR. The systems are available here: https://minifree.org/product/libreboot-x200/ https://minifree.org/product/libreboot-t400/ Side note: Depending on how sales pick up, Minifree may also need additional third parties to assist with flashing. Minifree pays equivalent to 10 GBP per hour, where you charge a certain amount of markup per system, when selling pre-flashed systems to Minifree. If such is needed in the future, it will be mentioned on the website. Minifree currently has 2 suppliers in the US, and 2 in the UK.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
To make matters worse, the ways people previously obtained media involved using a particular protocol that had free software clients available for.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
Just us now and flash the firmware. You'll be free.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
In my opinion, there isn't really much difference between the X200/X200S, though the latter does have lower-power CPUs as previously discussed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
It's about the same size.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
Hi Pyraman, I am uncertain as to the progress on that, though this is something that I believe damo22 and paulk both have worked on. You can contact them on Freenode IRC. The latter is in #libreboot, and damo22 hangs out in both #coreboot and #librecore The above comment of mine refers to development of libre EC firmware on the Lenovo G505S laptop.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
In my opinion, there is little difference. The battery life on X200S *is* higher than X200, but not by much. In practise, you won't notice any difference. If I were to sell the X200S, then it would cost much more than the X200 due to the extra complication in flashing it (X200S requires soldering, X200 does not). I want to sell these in bulk quantities so I currently focus on the X200.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
Actually now that you mention it, if I recall correctly, that CPU may not even be supported by libreboot. See: https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X200s As far as I know, it's actually the SL9400 that is supported in libreboot. There are two modes is the chipset X200 uses: low- or high-performance. Libreboot supports the high-performance mode as used by the SL9400, but not the low-performance mode. I briefly went over this with sgsit (on IRC) when porting the X200 to Libreboot. SU9400 has TDP of 10w but is (iirc) unsupported by Libreboot. SL9400 has TDP of 17W. P8400 has a TDP of 25W (not 65W as you quote). We actually did some testing of the X200S versus X200 and the battery life is almost identical in practise.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
Yes, this is a level of miscommunication: I probably meant X200 laptops, so "X200s" probably meant "more than a single X200 thinkpad". For clarity, I always say X200S (uppercase S) when referring to the singular ThinkPad X200S product. I confirm that Minifree does not sell the X200S. However, we do sell the X200.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
The above statement from amrprznu is false.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
The price is lower than typical/average. Usually it's at least 300 EUR (plus shipping and VAT) on the site, for the base model. It's currently 248 EUR. SU9400 is from the X200S, which Minifree doesn't sell. This is the X200, which uses different CPUs than the X200S.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
Yes. Minifree ships internationally. If you wish to pay in another currency, simply convert the EUR price to USD (via xe.com) and pay that. The reason Minifree's prices are in EUR is because we're based in Europe, and target the EU mainland. But Minifree ships internationally. We can take payment in any currency.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
As I write this post, it's 2PM in the UK on 22 December 2017. The final batch of pre-christmas shipments went out today. UPS will resume their operations in my area on 27 December 2017. I'm waiting until then to make new shipments.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
3D printed keycaps for X200/T400 would be nice, with the user's own choice of symbols on the keycaps. Then native dvorak would be possible. It would also make it cheaper to get native keyboards in almost any layout.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Who of this community honestly runs Trisquel GNU/Linux?
Trisquel is still a nice distro, even if you use Trisquel 7. You can update to the latest linux-libre from third party repos e.g. freesh, or build your own modern kernels. You can also use Ubuntu PPAs for certain things (free/libre packages, backported to Ubuntu 14.04, which is what Trisquel 7 is based on). Trisquel also keeps up to date its ABrowser web browser, which is a version of firefox, and other applications. When Trisquel 8 is out, it's likely that an in-place update to it from T7 will be possible. For those who want something more up to date, Parabola or Hyperbola are good alternatives to Trisquel. Parabola is bleeding edge, based on Arch, and FSF endorsed. It's ideal for development systems or for non-critical desktops. Server/workstation usage is also possible, if you know what you're doing. Hyperbola is relatively up to date, and also a libre fork of Arch like Parabola, but with a focus on debian-like stability and regular release cycles (ideal for workstations, servers etc). It has a different focus than Parabola, and although not yet FSF endorsed, it does seem to comply with FSF criteria and one or two Parabola developers contribute to or have otherwise moved over to it. https://www.parabola.nu/ https://www.hyperbola.info/ Pick your poison :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
That's OK :) #libreboot IRC on freenode can help you flash it, if you get stuck. Several "libreboot installation services" are also available. There is a list on https://libreboot.org/suppliers.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
For Dvorak, we simply place stickers over the keys of a Qwerty keyboard. This changes the symbols so that the keyboard is visibly Dvorak. The keys on a thinkpad are oddly shaped, such that swapping the keys isn't possible. I've contemplated creating my own native keyboards, since I'm a Dvorak user myself (since 2011), without using stickers. Or to simply have keycaps made.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
25 eur for native keyboard for other layouts, e.g. german, french, usa, etc. For Dvorak it's 5 EUR. That pays for stickers/overlays on top of the keys.
[Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop comes with Trisquel pre-installed. Now with other keyboard layouts available, and free stickers
Hi everyone :) Minifree has recently (re-)launched its Libreboot X200 product. This is a completely libre laptop, which comes with 100% free software by default, from the BIOS to the operating system. It comes with the free Libreboot[1] boot firmware and Trisquel GNU+Linux by default. This product is fully endorsed by the Free Software Foundation. Richard Stallman himself also uses Libreboot. If you're looking for a laptop that respects your freedom, privacy and security, then this is for you. We are launching this at a reduced price, compared to when it was previously sold: https://minifree.org/product/libreboot-x200/ More information including specifications available on the Minifree website. New additions recently: - Other keyboard layouts: previously, this was available on request, but not guaranteed. We now guarantee it, for a small fee (25 EUR). We also provide the option for Dvorak layout. - "Libreboot Inside" palmrest stickers now included by default, at no cost. [1] https://libreboot.org/ PS: There are also other Libreboot X200 suppliers. See https://libreboot.org/suppliers.html We are listed on that page, as are others. Minifree is also endorsed by the Free Software Foundation's "Respects Your Freedom" certification
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
I believe that it's time to blow the whistle that again the voting system of the forum is being abused to hide posts and promote only one's view that has been repeated over and over again in a thread. Last time this censorship has prompted me and other colleagues to react and vote too in the thread about the T400s. I've made the statements that needed to be made in response to the misinformation about Technoethical communicated on the Trisquel forum by someone that, contrary to all expectations, might still have some credibility left. Having done that, I believe it would be disrespectful to the Trisquel community and a waste of time for everyone to read and answer to the many recent puerile comments. This looks like a good way to get this thread back on track: fbit: > Sorry to change the subject but, does anyone know how to turn off thinkpad keyboard beeps on Libreboot? Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
Calher, I know you mean well, but I wish for everything to de-escalate, or otherwise not re-escelate. I don't think vltr meant anything particularly nasty by it. They were simply referring to my gender. Let's not turn this into another war, please :) The war is over. ~Leah
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
Godwins law aside, let's not go down that road. Besides, it's off-topic to the thread.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
Calher, I know you mean well, but please let's not re-escelate things. This is not a war worth having. The fighting has stopped, and that's all that matters.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
Hi calher, I apologize for this oversight. If this issue still affects you, here's how to rectify it: * dump the ROM using flashrom * extract grub.cfg using cbfstool * change "keymap ukqwerty" in grub.cfg to "keymap ukdvorak" (I recall that I shipped you UK Dvorak) * reinsert the grub.cfg using cbfstool, this time with ukdvorak specified in grub.cfg * flash the modified ROM This guide shows how to modify grub.cfg in the Libreboot ROM that is flashed: https://libreboot.org/docs/gnulinux/grub_cbfs.html If you want me to provide support for this, I'm happy to. My IRC handle on freenode is _4of7 Ping me any time you like (NOTE: During December, I'm not looking at IRC much, due to heavy workload, but I take time off during the weekends). ~Leah

Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
The purpose of my peace offer is to prevent such incidences as in this thread in the future.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
bandicooty98 I put an end to it all. See end of thread. I offered a deal with the other companies so that we don't be hostile towards each other, and instead compete in a friendly manner more or less, instead of attacking each other.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
Minifree is VAT registered and I understand the mechanics. Yes, but import tax in many countries is lower than VAT in the typical EU country. From what I've seen, countries typically charge something like 10%, or less, sometimes slightly higher. VAT is relatively high in the EU.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
I really hope Tiberiu accepts it. Even if he doesn't, I'm sure as heck going to stay out of his way from now on. All this fighting has been completely pointless. It alienates our customer base, which then hurts both of our companies. Not to mention, we were both being completely unprofessional. I think cooperation will serve both of us well. But let's see what Technoethical says in response to it. I have no ulterior motive behind it, other than wanting to live my life in peace and focus on my work, and, you know, not be stressed all the time fighting people :S
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
Hi vltr, My offer to Tiberiu and Technoethical is a genuine one. I'm not going to argue with you on anything that you've said in your post, for I am waiting on Tiberiu's response to my offer. And yes, I apologize for my previous hostilities towards you. As stated in another reply to you in this thread, I'm willing to do what is necessary to make amends (this has always been my intention). If you wish to receive a refund for you order, please send me your order info via email, and your wiring instructions. Btw, I'm curious to hear what you think my problem is. Feel free to say it in a reply, or in a PM, whatever you wish. This is strictly morbid curiosity, and you do not have to comply with this request. ~Leah
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
I do actually try to provide the best possible service. But yes, I apologize fully for me behaviour towards you in this thread. Once again, I take full responsibility. If you wish your order be refunded, then I'm happy to provide one (as I always have been). Please send me your wiring instructions and original order information. Please also see my offer of peace to Tiberiu: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/libreboot-x200-returns-minifree?page=2#comment-124501
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
Another idea: why not do a Christmas Giving Guide on libreboot.org, every year? Similar to the FSF one, but focused entirely on Libreboot (FSF one also covers other devices). It's probably too late to do one this year, but we could do it next year. Tiberiu, I'm serious. I believe we would both be better served working with each other, instead of fighting. We could also go further beyond the agreement; for instance, if someone is asking about a product that one of us doesn't sell, we recommend the other supplier. So for instance, Minifree doesn't sell the X200 Tablet. If someone asks about that, I'll tell them about your X200T product.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
If the deal is agreed on, I'm going to call it the united federation of libreboot suppliers, in my head. Literally. I just want to focus on my work, and not fight with anyone.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot X200 returns on Minifree
Hi everyone. In the interest of transparency, I will publish this email I have just now sent to Technoethical, in an attempt to de-escelate and end all of these hostilities: To: Tiberiu-Cezar Tehnoetic From: Leah Rowe Subject: peace deal Cc: Vikings , i...@libiquity.com, Free Software Foundation , John Sullivan Message-ID: Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2017 11:59:38 + User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Icedove/45.6.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi Tiberiu, This email is in my capacity as the director of Minifree, and not in any way as a member of the Libreboot project. I'm CC'ing my other competitors aswell, aswell as the FSF, in the interest of both transparency and fairness. I do not wish for this to be negotiated in secret between us. I'm really not happy with your behaviour on the recent Trisquel thread about Minifree's Libreboot X200 re-launch. That being said, I understand why you would do it. I'm also guilty of rotten behaviour ther e. I will not ask you to apologize. I will simply forgive you, whether you're sorry or not. For avoidance of doubt, I refer to this thread: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/libreboot-x200-returns-minifree What I'm about to propose has a single premise in mind: to end any hostilities or tensions between the 4 of us (minifree, technoethical, vikings, libiquity). I'm not asking for us to work together, I'm simply asking that we stop being hostile with each other. I get it, I really do. But I don't want it to continue. I have a proposal which I believe will benefit both of us. Please consider it: 1) I link to Technoethical on Minifree You link to Minifree on Technoethical This will benefit both of us. You have strengths over Minifree, and Minifree has strengths over you. We link to each other, and let people choose. By doing this, we both get more publicity. Minifree has quite a lot of exposure on search engines and blogs. You would get more visitors to your website. I will also link to Vikings and Libiquity - whether or not they then link to Minifree is irrelevant to me, but I hope they will. The 3 of you already have this deal going between all of you, of linking to each other. Basically, I propose to join this team, so that the 4 of us cooperate in this manner. 2) We both announce our new alliance-of-sorts, publicly, in the X200 thread on Trisquel forums, and agree to cooperate from now on. It may also be preferable to announce a brand new thread for this. We both then stop responding on the Trisquel thread where the dispute recently occured. We also both agree not to respond in the X200 thread anymore. I will eventually, perhaps, start a new thread. I'm planning several changes to Minifree in the run-up to christmas, including changes to the X200. If I do start that new thread, I will put a footnote in the bottom saying this: PS: These companies also sell the X200. They are also good alternatives to Minifree: technoethical, vikings, libiquity 3) As much as possible, I will try not to step on your toes at all. So for instance, I won't say "Minifree is cheaper than Technoethical". I'll simply focus on Minifree, and as much as possible, try not to focus on you at all, or on others for that matter. You will also do the same. This is not to say that we won't compete. Of course we'll do that. We will simply acknowledge each others existence and respect each other to the best of our abilities, and not try to attack each other in any wa y. The fighting must end. It is damaging not just our companies, but also the community at large. I'm proposing that we at least be civil with each other. I leave this with you to consider. I will execute my part of this deal immediately, if you agree. PS: Even if you reject this deal, I will still play my part and try not to anger you anymore. The last thing I want to do is fight with you. It causes me endless stress, and I'd rather focus on more important things. I have my own priorities, such as Minifree and Libreboot, but also many others. It is illogical to fight. - -- Leah Rowe Libreboot developer and project founder. Use free software.
