Hello, tried the patch in Precise, without any effect on behaviour. What I did (the first time in life I work with a patch): * added a file xhost.desktop as adviced in #7 * copied patchfile to /home/me/Stažené/nanny-find-process-fix.patch * moved (cd) to /usr/share/pyshared/nanny/daemon/ (the only location I found the file on my system) * run successfully (patching file ...) sudo patch /home/wagner/Stažené/nanny-find-process-fix.patch - error looks the same as before, without patch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877318 Title: Nanny not working in Oneiric and Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nanny/+bug/877318/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My setup is upgraded from 10.10 (through each intermediate release) on the server, and is a new install on the client. portmap mountd nfsd statd lockd rquotad : 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.11 portmap mountd nfsd statd lockd rquotad : ALL Because portmap is deprecated now, my hosts.deny file simple has rpcbind : ALL Ah, I see I need to add rpcbind to that list myself. However, other daemons including statd are running, so they must be on the list too. Try adding all of the above to your hosts.{allow,deny}. But the problem is not that I'm locked out of the shares: rather it's that 'mount.nfs' appears to think that rpc.statd is not running (which can't depend on what's in hosts.deny/allow, can it???). Or it's not able to access the daemon because it is denied by default? Not sure about that behaviour. I must say, I'm a bit surprised that no one else here has experienced this problem with setting up NFS on 12.04 (and - because there are real engineers here who know acres more than me - solved it). As I said, using the Ubuntu setup guide works fine. Try following it before using your own steps, or switching to CIFS. Regards, Tyler -- You may not like Grandma's Thanksgiving turkey. As a means of getting familiar with Unity, etc, I recently put 12.04 on to one machine. (A clean install, as the attempted upgrade a few weeks ago failed.) I don't have the same setup, but perhaps my notes can help. I use Ubuntu server as a NAS and Ubuntu desktop as a client. The client mounts the NAS via NFSv4 at boot via /etc/fstab. I used this guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpNFSHowTo Does your NAS only support NFSv3? Today, I got round to setting up the NFS shares on this 12.04 system in my usual way: create mount points in /media; install portmap and nfs-common; lockdown portmap; add the shares to fstab. Of course, I discovered at once that portmap is deprecated, and rpcbind installed instead. So for the lockdown, I simply added rpcbind : ALL to /etc/hosts.deny, and rpcbind : NFS server IP address to /etc/hosts.allow. Otherwise, everything corresponds with what is working under 10.04 on the other four machines. My hosts.allow/deny look like so: portmap mountd nfsd statd lockd rquotad : 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.11 portmap mountd nfsd statd lockd rquotad : ALL Perhaps you need to list statd here? In that case arguably it is the app that is pea-brained for not coming with a .desktop file to launch it. Or perhaps there is one but you have not found it. This is harder with Unity in 12.04. You cannot pin something from the dash anymore, nor does Unity find .desktop files in ~/.local/share/applications automatically. However, you can create a launcher in ~.local/share/applications, give it an icon, and execute the launcher in nautilus. This bug happens because the indicator-power does not use the helper functions from libindicators, but instead tries to draw the icons itself. The attached patch fixes this. [Bug 763052] Re: Ubuntu can't boot on nvidia GeForce GT240 with nouveau drivers
After filing a new bug #973789, I came to the result, that the causes for my trouble (Precise install additionally to Lucid only through the alternate CD, now it runs only in rescue mode) is the graphics driver (I have a GeForce GT 240), for details see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/973789 Maybe there is an additional problem, as my trial to install the proprietary NVidia driver, working in graphical rescue mode, failed. Now I don't know how to continue: repeat the install from scratch according to Eduard's recommendations, or replace my actual driver by an appropriate one? But what is the actual driver, and which one to use now? nouveau is said to be not working on boot (#21), but it is recommended to install nouveau (#21), and the final target is apparently to end up with VESA (which I think is the driver in my rescue environment). Sorry for my beginner's kidding, but I have tried to install the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau driver by several ways. For the time being I still work on Lucid, but I am eager to update to Precise. Regarding the fact that I do have a NVidia GeForce GT240, the symptomatics desribed above might be linked to a misfunction reported in bug # 763052. [Bug 973789] Re: Precise beta install crashes from cd after boot
Inbetween I have tried the alternate CD, also beta, downloaded 4/15. Install ran without disruption. Previous OS get started without trouble. First start (and any further) of Precise began with a blank violet screen (for a second), followed by an introduction screen (20 secs?), with four horizontal bars in violet-black-violet-black, separated by tiny dotted coloured lines, which slightly move (seemingly a reminder of the moving dots of the welcome-screen). Then a completely black screen without any sign of life. CTRL+ALT+PrtScrn+REISUB shuts the system down. In recovery mode, the system boots correctly and enables a glimpse into Ubiquity. I updated everything, but a full start rendered the symptoms described above. I enter some logs which may help with finding the problem. Can add any more, of course. Two months ago I had also problems with install, then of the 11.10 version, and to a completely different computer for a friend, but with the same monitor. It has seemed to me a problem of the intel video card, which didn't cope with my new monitor BENQ GL 2240, and after a reduction of the screen size, the system worked fine, without these strange effects (stripes across the screen, disappearing letters etc.). With my friend, my installation works without problems, with another monitor. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/973789/+attachment/3068389/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973789 Title: Precise beta install crashes from cd after boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/973789/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 973789] Re: Precise beta install crashes from cd after boot
Just a low quality (sorry) picture (screenshot is not possible of course) from my forth boot from the install CD. You can see different segment of my Lucid-desktop. It is probably the last screen before the switch-off before the trial of the install CD, because you can see the lower part of the switch-off window on the right up section. [Bug 973133] [NEW] Finger touch input is not registered correctly
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 64bit on an HP Elitebook 2760p. This occurs under Unity and gnome-shell, and I imagine any other DE. I am not sure what software provides the functionality I am discussing below, so please assign the bug accordingly. What is expected: When I use my finger tips to interact with the system, I expect the cursor to move to where my touch was registered. If I tap, I expect a click to be sent at the location where I tapped. If I tap and drag, I expect the cursor to follow my input. What happens instead: The cursor does not first move to where the tap was registered. When I tap, a click is sent to whatever happens to be below where the cursor is currently positioned. Tap and drag, again, starts from the location where the cursor was previously located, and uses a strange acceleration (the mouse cursor moves further away the faster I drag). In clearer terms, the touchscreen is behaving less like a tablet and more like a big, dumb trackpad. Despite these issues, the system's included stylus still functions exactly as expected. This was working as expected earlier in beta, and changed sometime after mid-February, when I originally installed Ubuntu from a then-current daily ISO. I had not used the installation for some time and recently discovered the issue. I had other issues with that installation, so I thought it wouldbe best to reinstall from today's daily ISO and ran 'aptitude full-upgrade'. The issue persists. Therefore, I believe this is a regression, and not something specific to my machine. [Bug 973789] [NEW] Precise beta install crashes from cd after boot
Public bug reported: Sorry for filing it with ubiquity, but the bug is linked to the install process of the beta version of Precise Pangolin, and I had to choose a package for Apport. Let's say, the upper left quarter at the lower right, etc. system goes on working for a while, then freezes. no input, even not the REISUB sequence. why does the live CD install take info from my harddisk??? 5 switch off power, new boot, I repeat steps 2 + 3 6 very colourful screen with many pixels, as if taking a random bitmap and displaying by the graphic card. comp seems to work for some seconds (CD player active), no input accepted 7 the same like steps 5 + 6 I see no chance to intervene, i.e. to make a mistake. Where can I find logs to post? Those in the /var/log/installer are very old. Can I stop the process? No hurry, I'm safely and happily working on Ubuntu 10.04 and open for testing. [Bug 973979] [NEW] gnome-shell incorrectly renders desktop viewport
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release:12.04 -- Sometimes, gnome-shell incorrectly renders the desktop viewport. This most recently happened when I moved a terminal window into a new workspace using the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+Down keyboard shortcut. (I do not remember what may have triggered it the first time I encountered it, but I do work with multiple workspaces frequently). The first time it happened, the mouse was trapped into the secondary viewport, so mousing up to 'Activities', the clock, the notification area elements or the user menu was impossible. Reloading the shell (pressing ALT+F2, typing 'r', then pressing Enter) did not clear it up. To recover, I had to drop to a console (CTRL+ALT+F1), log in, and issue 'sudo reboot' (I'm sure there's a less drastic workaround, but really, I shouldn't have to know what that is). 'mdadm.conf.txt' shows some manually made changes I was attempting to follow after reading this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?s=b6e090eae70ded837a35d33a855bf21bp=11623570postcount=22 However, the alterations have no effect on the end result. mdadm still reassembles the array as /dev/md127, which is undesirable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/964052 Title: mdadm: created as /dev/md0, becomes /dev/md127 after reboot. [Bug 964052] Re: mdadm: created as /dev/md0, becomes /dev/md127 after reboot.
Reinstalling from the same ISO, I used guided partitioning to completely wipe the root partition and reinstall the system. At the same time, I also told it to mount the array. After installation, my array is mounted and I see this in /etc/fstab: # /media/raid was on /dev/md0 during installation UUID=c3cc60a8-e441-4c68-a59d-ee6bacaf1e34 /media/raid ext4defaults 0 2 Sure enough, the array is now assembled as /dev/md0. I had a question in IRC (#ubuntu+1) about what the untouched mdadm.conf looked like after building the array but before I altered it. To undo the changes I made, simply remove the commented and uncommented DEVICE lines. For instance, I can turn on my phone's camera light with such intensity that it will - theoretically - heat up and destroy the LED. Of course, the hardware should have overrides preventing that. [Bug 913874] [NEW] live-config script is broken in ubuntu
Public bug reported: An image created with live-build uses the scripts provided by live-config to configure the image during boot. But the live-config main script (config.sh) is broken in ubuntu. Ways to reproduce: - Boot the newly build image with the noautologin or noxautologin kernel parameters. What should happen: - The live-config main script (config.sh) should execute the configuration scripts. What happens: - There is an error message about '???-sysvinit' not found and config.sh aborts. Why it happens: - The live config package in ubuntu removes the '007-gdm3' and '016-sysvinit' files, necessary for config.sh to run. Proposed solution: - It's a small problem that lies in the config.sh script. The noautologin and noxautologin options asks config.sh to NOT execute some scripts (007-gdm3 and 016-sysvinit in this case). But if these scripts are not available, config.sh aborts. The simple attached patch fixes this config.sh behaviour and makes its script inclusion/exclusion routines much more robust. Please consider it for inclusion. [Bug 508939] Re: Wrong colors when printing
I have verified by using multiple versions of Linux (Redhat, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Centos, etc...) and multiple printers (Dell, HP, Xerox, etc...). Printing from acroread will produce the wrong colors. The biggest issue is that blues come out purple. If you use any other PDF reader (ie: okular), the colors are correct. I've tested multiple versions of acroread up to version 9.4.2. Using the same version numbers in Windows doesn't produce this problem.
