[Bug 373371] Re: Installation of Kyocera Mita FS-1020D failes with error: There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'server-error-internal-error'

2009-05-08 Thread Till Kamppeter
I propose this fix also for a SRU for Jaumty. debdiff attached (fixes
also bug 361772), package uploaded to -proposed and waits for approval.

To reproduce:

lpinfo -m | grep -i 1020D

shows a Foomatic/gutenprint line for the Kyocera FS-1020D and trying
to generate this PPD with

/usr/lib/cups/driver/foomatic cat foomatic:Kyocera-FS-1020D-
gutenprint.ppd

leads to an error. After applying the fix

lpinfo -m | grep -i 1020D

does not show this wrong entry any more.

[Bug 373650] [NEW] Confusing language spell checking menu

2009-05-08 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Dear friends,

Attached is a screen shot of the menu which selects the language to
check the spelling for.

It has both he_IL and Hebrew / Israel. Both en_US and English /

It is not clear why this duplicity exists.

I think it should be expected that there will be only one menu item for
each language, in the long format Language / Location.

Many blessings.

[Bug 372166] Re: No output when printing in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-08 Thread Stephan Gauch
Dear all,

I may have found something that is of relevance. When I had reporting of
PS-Errors enabled with a Konica Minolta bizhub 250 I get an error
message sheet, which says:

Emperor Error Page

%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: get; Info: A4 ]%%

When PS-Error reporting is disabled the behaviour is as described in the
inital posting.

@Hogne: Could you check if this behaviour is consistent with your
problem.

It does not seem to be a general ps-related problem affecting other
printers. I can easily print to CUPS-PDF and a HP Color Laserjet 2840
via network

Thanks in advance,

Stephan

[Bug 342096] Re: SD Card containing /home corrupted on resume

2009-05-08 Thread Renzo Bagnati
I confirm this bug on a Dell mini9 with ubuntu-9.04-netbook-remix-i386.
After resuming from a suspend with a mounted SHDC card, the partition table on
the card is corrupted.
This does not happen with the original ubuntu 8.04 shipped by Dell. Looking at
the config files of the Dell 8.04 and the Ubuntu 9.04 kernels I found these
relevant differences:

config-2.6.24-22-lpia (Ubuntu 8.04 Dell):
...
CONFIG_MMC=y
CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK=y
CONFIG_MMC_SDHCI=y
CONFIG_MMC_SDHCI_PCI=y
CONFIG_MMC_UNSAFE_RESUME=y
...

config-2.6.28-11-generic (ubuntu 9.04):
...
CONFIG_MMC=y
CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK=m
CONFIG_MMC_SDHCI=m
CONFIG_MMC_SDHCI_PCI=m
# CONFIG_MMC_UNSAFE_RESUME is not set
...

Then I build custom packages of 2.6.28-11 kernel and restricted-modules for
jaunty, using the CONFIG_MMC options of the Ubuntu 8.04 kernel and this solved
the problem for me.
(Community instructions for kernel compile are here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile)

[Bug 345542] Re: linux-image-2.6.28-5-powerpc has ioremap fault with radeon drm module

2009-05-08 Thread jh
Shortly after all this started, I built linux-
source_2.6.28.11.15_all.deb on PPC to see if that later version (the
source for then current ia32 version) had the fault, and it did on PPC.
Yesterday, following spydouglas' example, I built kernel.org 2.6.28.10,
which, as we now know, works on PPC.

This morning, inspecting the differences in
drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/radeon_cp.c, I naively changed the three
instances of drm_core_ioremap_wc() in the above Ubuntu source
(drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/radeon_cp.c) to remove the _wc, i.e. back to the
Korg non write combining version (this is at lines 1183-1185), [ ==
drm_core_ioremap()].

The kernel from modified Ubuntu source works with DRM, though I have no
idea what the side affects might be.

Randomly, the system stops responding to keyboard and mouse events. I

keyboard (Alt+F for file does not work). I can, for example, run
programs from a terminal if it was the active program at the freeze
time, or browse in a webpage (only with arrows, enter and tab key).

[Bug 203574] Re: Eject should eject the CD-ROM drive tray

2009-05-08 Thread Yfrwlf
This is still occurring in Jaunty as well, but after reading
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/356631 specifically
the part:

- extras/cdrom_id/cdrom_id.c: Add a new key ID_CDROM_MEDIA=1 if there
is a CD present. Also, skip media tests if CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS !=
  CDS_DISC_OK.

Skipping the check to see if a CD is in the drive first sounds like
solving this issue. Can someone apply the backports or upgrade to koala

Re: [Bug 351186] Re: [ubuntu 9.04 beta]slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2009-05-08 Thread Stephan Frank
Hallo Bryce,

thanks for the PPA; just for your interest (and the benefit of all
others): The debs from the PPA work fine on one of my two 64-bit
machines, and also seem to resolve many of the glitches and performance
problems I had with video feedback.

On a second machine, with a HD 4350 and ASUS M3N78-EM mainboard, the
debs from the PPA fail to run: the xserver crashes with no screens
found with any driver I tried (fglrx, radeon, vesa). The stock xserver
works, apart from that annoying resizing performance problem. This
machine has 8GB, so maybe this is part of the problem as I have read
somwhere that people had problems with machines 3GB of RAM, but I'm out
of ideas to try in front of the screen, and would rather not like to try
go over to hardware swapping...

Best regards,
Stephan

the issue will be fixed in karmic then, do you have any upstream bug
reference where they stated it's fixed in 2.27?

No, it was just stated in #totem channel by a developer. I didn't find
any upstream bugreport for this.

[Bug 321412] Re: system work bad with PCI-Express Device Error

Just like to add that I am getting exactly the same error on initial
boot:

I also have an AsRock Alive Sata2 GLan motherboard with an NVidia 9400GT
video card. I was also previously getting the same error with an ATi
X1300 card which I ditched because of all the driver and video issues
with ATi cards.

U9.04 is installed on SATA2-1 and boots as the first drive. Also have 2 IDE
drives, the primary with MS XP and the secondary with U8.04. Never got this
error before installing the SATA drive and U9.04.
Having replaced the video card I am in no mood to also ditch the Mobo.

Haven't yet noticed any crashes as only just installed the NVidia card.
Runs a lot smoother without the ATi card and driver.

[Bug 373660] [NEW] Restricted Drivers Disppear

2009-05-08 Thread gjbnh
Public bug reported:

After a fresh instal of 9,04 the alternative restricted driver, which
works, appears for the Atheros AR5007 wifi. After the first updates, and
then a reboot, wifi stops working, and any entires in restricted drivers
disappears. This is an HP G50-133US. This computer, along with the last
2 laptops I've had, is the 3rd one where wifi doesn't work out of the
box under Ubuntu. The most madening this is, EACH of these computers is
low end! AND each of these involved the Atheros wifi.

[Bug 312708] Re: Simple 50 line program hard crashes system

2009-05-08 Thread JussiP
I upgraded to 9/04 and tried again. There is an additional twist that
has to do with bug 373634.

When I don't have the virtual desktop size set (meaning I have DRI HW
acceleration) the bug still happens.

When I do have virtual desktop size (meaning Mesa SW fallback) the bug
does not happen.

So this probably has something to do with DRI and/or desktop
compositing.

I use a bog standard x86 Ubuntu install. Basic kernel, basic X server
settings, basic everything, really.

bluetooth dongle USB Device 1131:1004 worked. I'm currently upgrading my
laptop to Jaunty, and I hope I'll confirm it works for me once on hard
drive.

Download the javadoc zip (from Sun website) file and copy it to
 /tmp...

 so re-run it.

many people say that`s not necessary, but if you use a nice IDE
 like
Netbeans, you`ll see a great difference.

[Bug 370851] Re: Barcode reader kill X on scan

2009-05-08 Thread Martin Olsson
Thanks a lot for collecting all the necessary information. I have filed
an upstream bug report for the input subsystem in X.org. The upstream
bug report is available here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21630

It would be useful if you added yourself as a subscriber to that bug so
you can answer any follow up questions etc (I think it's sufficient to
put your e-mail in the Add CC and press the COMMIT button but I never
tried this before without being a registered user.. otherwise you can
just register an account in the upstream bugzilla tracker). Thanks.

Next step is just to see what upstream comes back with.

[Bug 370297] Re: usb-imagewriter fails to run

2009-05-08 Thread Ralph Corderoy
I'm investigating a problem reported by a LUG member; http://www.mail-
archive.com/dor...@mailman.lug.org.uk/msg00202.html He reports exactly
the same symptoms.

The fix was to install the python-glade package, apparently, although I
can't find that listed; http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords
=python-gladesearchon=namessuite=allsection=all

It seems the package dependencies for usb-imagewriter are incorrect.

[Bug 373666] [NEW] ddclient debconf doesn't offer 'web' as available configuration

The debconf configuration wizard for ddclient offers a choice of network

[Bug 364513] Re: unable to launch amarok

2009-05-08 Thread X5200
I too upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 9.04 and now have this same problem
with Amarok.

Also, I just installed kgpg and when I try to launch it I get
kgpg: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkdecore.so.5: undefined symbol:
qt_locale_initialized

So I tried a another KDE based program
kget: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkdecore.so.5: undefined symbol:
qt_locale_initialized

so perhaps it is not an Amarok issue.

[Bug 370353] Re: Transmission disconnects PS3 wireless network

2009-05-08 Thread Chris Coulson
This is not a transmission bug. If your network connection is going
down, then that's a NM bug, kernel bug or some other network issue on
the router side. Transmission just triggers the underlying issue for
you, but it is not a bug in transmission.

Please attach your /var/log/kern.log, /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/daemon.log when this happens.

Thanks

No, it means apply it to (a) any newly-created user account and (b) the
login screen. That's hard to explain in the confines of a button.

It would be nice if the authentication alert was able to explain this in
more detail.

[Bug 337314] Re: Left speaker doesn't work, controls mixed up on Apple MacBook[Pro] (5, 1)

2009-05-08 Thread Νίκος Αλεξανδρής
Hi Alex!

I compiled the alsa-driver after the linux-image upgrade. Anyhow, it was
my curiosity that caused my system to have no sound (e.g. I was playing
around with the Sound preferences). All is fine again after setting
Autodetect (under System Preferences sound) for all devices.

The only problem that remains, it seems, is the missing bass.

Cheers, Nikos

[Bug 362919] Re: [Q45] Display corruption on Intel chipset

2009-05-08 Thread francesco44
I confirm the bug. I upgraded from 8.10 to jaunty on 3 different laptop,
2 thinkpad X31 and 1 thinkpad X30. The problem appears only on the X30.
It is mostly related to texte. On any word processor from gedit, to Open
Office through Abiword...when you are typing, the line already written
dissepear and is replaced by a blank line. After few more strokes it
comes back. This is strictly independent from the ubuntu theme

This is not all, the title of the windows is corrupted progressively, in
some case with corrupted fonts, sometimes with long blank rectangles.
Some fonts can also persist on the screen. Some images are also
corrupted like the smilies turned into grey squares.

At last some horizontal line accumulate on the screen and the upper
ubuntu menu which disseppear very progressively under lines and dots.

All this is mostly related to text.

2009-05-08 Thread Martin Olsson
Can you also attach you /etc/X11/xorg.conf and also the output of lspci
-vvnn please?

What happens if you use the -ati driver normally but you turn off compiz
(i.e. if you select None in the dialog
System::Preferences::Appearence::Visual Effects). Does OOo trigger the
bug using that config?

What happens if you use the -ati driver but you add:
Option NoAccel true
inside the Device section of your xorg.conf? Does OOo trigger the bug using
that config?

[Bug 361205] Re: Tracker uses notifications with actions when the index is corrupt

2009-05-08 Thread markling
I had an error report like this from Tracker Applet this morning:

Tracker
There was an error while performing indexing
Index corrupted

It asked me if I wanted to [reindex], [cancel] or [OK]

Neither [cancel] nor [OK] worked. The error window just popped right
back at me like it was the terminator. I'd rather not ask it to reindex
because i have no idea what it is and my machine's already running like
an old dog since i installed Jaunty the other day.

This may have some bearing on the matter: I had an external drive
connected the day before yesterday.

[Bug 32398] Re: Boot splash screen always disappears at reiserfs check.

2009-05-08 Thread Jim H
I am also getting this on Kubuntu Jaunty.

The Resierfs filesystems on md RAID are checked every time (I'm shutting
down the computer normally) so bootup takes a long time. This is a 1TB
filesystem raided over two SATA drives in RAID1 setup.

However, on my eeepc netbook/laptop I have a reiserfs filesystem on
solid state drive and it starts quite quickly. Possibly the issue is
specific to ResierFS on RAID.
