[Bug 360905] Re: Network-Manager not seeing broadband card
I tried the patch but I still experience the problem. I have a Novatel MC950D and I'm running Jaunty on an ASUS 1000 eee PC. If I boot with the stick plugged in, the nm-applet will connect. If I remove the stick and re-plug it, the connection is not re-established. If I don't boot with the stick plugged in Network Manager applet never detects the stick. This used to work in previous versions. -- Network-Manager not seeing broadband card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/360905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
I have no idea how it normally works. This is the first bug I've raised and I ended up having to do a lot of work. The only feedback I ever got from a Ubuntu team member was regarding the "triage" of the bug. I haven't heard about anyone actually working on this. I think the key problem is that we don't know exactly what it is in the kernel that fixes the problem. If it is that little section of code in ec.c, I guess it wouldn't be too hard to test. Just download the 2.6.22-14 source, modify ec.c, recompile and you'd find out. The main problem for me is that I can't get both the kernel and the restricted modules to compile for 2.6.22-14 due to the crazy issues with "version", "kernel version" and "abi-version". If someone knows how to do this, it'd be great if they could try it out. So, unfortunately I'm going to be satisfied with getting 2.6.23 to work and I think this will benefit my marriage :) R. Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
I have managed to get the 2.6.23 kernel working with Kamikaze5 patches. I have sound, glorious sound!! It only took me about 2 or 3 weeks and that is time I'll never get back :) I don't have my video working right yet or the network, but don't see those as being too difficult to get going. For anyone interested, I did the following: 1. download 2.6.23 source (not x.23.1) from kernel.org 2. download the kamikaze5 patches (cd into kernel source top level dir, then do a "patch -p1 < whatever_the_kamimikaze_patch_filename" 3. did the fix on ec.c as described above I'll attach my .config. I do "make gconfig". Then my build steps are: make-kpkg clean make clean make-kpkg kernel_image dpkg -i ../linux- image-2.6.23-kamikaze5_2.6.23-kamikaze5-10.00.Custom_i386.deb update-initramfs -c -k 2.6.23-kamikaze5 My grub entry is: title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.23-kamikaze5 Default root(hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=UUID=feabbedf-85ad-4e36-be39-3e00fec57275 ro initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.23-kamikaze5 savedefault I know it would be great to get the 2.6.23 patch into the 2.6.22 kernel, but I just don't know how. In addition, the are probably using the 2.6.23 kernel in a future version of Ubuntu anyway. If someone knows how to get it in, I say go for it. If anyone uses this and fixes network or video - please let me know. Otherwise I'll post here when I've got it fixed. Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
So this is where I'm at, I've got the vanilla 2.6.23 kernel from kernel.org, patched with the "kamikaze5" patches, and it compiles nicely. I've added the fix mentioned above. However, I'm having an issue testing with the kernel. I can't get it to boot. The kernel can't find the root partition. I think it gets named or numbered differently with the new kernel. It complains that /dev/sda1 does not exist or a variety of similar errors depending on my kernel parameters passed via grub. I've tried root=0802, root=/dev/sda1, and the UID thingy that was there in the first place. Not sure if I'm missing compiling something into the kernel, or if it's just a device numbering problem. Any other configuration you did? 3. What make command did you type? make (with args), make-dkpg or debian/rules - could you please be specific? 4. What was your resulting debian package name? 5. Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
Yes, please do tell all. I have issues with the many ways to download the source and many ways to build the kernel. I've been following f'g howtos for a couple of weeks and still have issues building the damn kernel for Ubuntu. I've been able to compile the kernel and restricted modules but have many issues. Should I use "git" to get the source or apt-get source ...? Which version of the kernel do we need? How do you get other versions? Once I have the source, I used "debian/rules" to make the image, but it uses the config files from debian/config/i386 (config and config.386) and NOT the .config file in the top level. The problem here is that the config files are extremely hard to edit (i.e. I can't use menuconfig or gconfig with debian/rules - or don't know how to). So this way works for me, but I lack the ability to configure the kernel well. It produces a " linux-image-2.6.22-14-386_2.6.22-14-i386.deb" file and I can then build the restricted modules OK. So, when I use menuconfig or gconfig and get a ".config" file, I have to use "make-dpkg" to make the kernel. Then I get a package called " linux-image-2.6.22.9-2.6.22-14.46_i386.deb". So I can install it, but then the restricted modules have issues with the ".9" 'cause ABI version seems to want a hyphen (i.e. it turns "14" into "-14". I have no idea where the ".9" comes from and somehow "-14.46" ends up in the f'g filename too. Anyhow, if anyone can give clear "build" instructions I'd be very grateful. R. Somethings up with my network now :( I'll post my 2 heavily edited files as per this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CustomRestrictedModules Essentially I removed all of the unnecessary platforms from the control.stub.in file and I adjusted the "rules" file as per the link. Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
The problem seems to be mostly related to the way the kernel is compiled. The kernel version 2.6.22 definitely has all the right pieces to work - and reportedly does work on other platforms with the DSDT.aml fix. It sounds like the Ubuntu precompiled kernel makes the DSDT.aml fix not work. There are a number of configurable options I would like to try (one other guy in this trail said he got his working). The first option I want to turn on is HDA_INTEL (which is absolutely necessary). I've been trying to compile the kernel and can't. I can't seem to get the "linux-restricted-modules" to compile for 2.6.22 following the links I have. And recompiling is so time intensive. I get tangled in "--append-to-version", "abi version", and other version nightmares. I download the source for 2.6.22 and get version "2.6.22-14.46" which provides a tar file. With the tar file expanded, it wants to be 2.6.22-14.9... and when I compile it adds :10-0-Custom or something, then when I try to compile the LRM, it complains about not finding any of these version numbers. I try to follow this shit (sorry but it is frustrating), and can't build the damn kernel. If I could just build the kernel, I'd be able to try a few things out (and probably solve my problems!!) R. Correct. No one has this working (unless you revert to a previous version of the kernel from Feisty and use the DSDT fix in a link way way up in the stack). However we now have $100 to the person who fixes this, probably a bit more because someone said they'd contribute "something". And loliverouge is working hard on recompiling a kernel that works. Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
Louis - if you've got a workaround - please provide precise details for those waiting with baited breath :) You got sound working - how did you do it? Which Toshiba do you have? Which version of the bios? What did your DSDT changes look like? Which version of the kernel? Etc? Anything special for the version of ALSA that you describe? I think we've all followed about 100 "howto's" and "fixes" with a lot of frustration. If you can make it happen - please do share!! Thanks, R. Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
I'm in the same boat as you. I've never seen the DSDT workaround actually work. I've created a new DSDT.dsl file by: - extracting and reverse engineering the original DSDT.dsl from the bios - changing variables that look like _T_0 to T_0 - changing some strings that look like "*PNP0C14" to "PNP0C14" - and editing the all important "Linux" section to look like the snippet below (other people have modified their .dsl slightly differently, but this approach looks the safest to me). - then I create a new DSDT.aml file (iasl -tc DSDT.dsl) - I copy the file over to the initial ramfs location (cp DSDT.aml/etc/initramfs-tools/) - and create a new ram disk (mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd.img- 2.6.22-13-generic) The kernel log says it loads the DSDT.aml file when I reboot, but the sound doesn't work. Apparantly this workaround used to work in Fiesty Fawn. I was on FF and the workaround didn't work for me. When I tried asking about it (and created a bug) I was told I had to be on GG to report this bug. I switched, and found that we're all experiencing this problem. I don't know when FF stopped working - some people have reported that the fix used to work. I should also say that I have BIOS 4.0 for the laptop (I upgraded recently). So, if you want sound, you can boot your laptop by adding "acpi=off" at the end of the kernal options in GRUB (just press E to edit on next reboot to try it temporarily). BUT, when ACPI is off, it can lead to things like your CPU overheating I am told. I think this can wreck your hardware. My machine froze after a while. I'm just waiting (more like praying) for a FIX. PLEASE PLEASE I want SOUND!! I would even pay money for the fix. Enough of my rant. (Probably more than you needed to know) === snippet of DSDT.dsl Scope (\_SB) { Method (_INI, 0, NotSerialized) { If (DTSE) { TRAP (0x47) } Store (0x07D0, OSYS) /* If (CondRefOf (_OSI, Local0)) { If (_OSI ("Linux")) { Store (0x03E8, OSYS) } Else { */ Store (0x07D1, OSYS) /* If (_OSI ("Windows 2001 SP2")) { Store (0x07D2, OSYS) } If (_OSI ("Windows 2001.1")) { Store (0x07D3, OSYS) } If (_OSI ("Windows 2001.1 SP1")) { Store (0x07D4, OSYS) } If (_OSI ("Windows 2006")) { */ Store (0x07D6, OSYS) /* } */ If (LAnd (MPEN, LEqual (OSYS, 0x07D1))) { TRAP (0x3D) } /* } } */ } On 10/10/07, Luis Suárez <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I just upgraded to 2.6.22-14-generic and I can confirm there is still no > sound with or without custom DSDT. > I konw there is a workaround, and I would be very nice if (even when I > know this will be fixed soon) someone explain us noobs how to get this patch > working. > > -- > toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off. > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136469 > You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber > of the bug. > -- Rob Armstrong Solution Architect, Senior Partner Application Elements 780.965.0729 www.applicationelements.com -- toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136469 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Confirmed problem for me on Toshiba Satellite P100 PSPA3C SD402E. DSDT.aml work around from here doesn't work for me: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/peripherals-hardware/96259-toshiba-p100 -series-sound-fix-ubuntu.html Kernel package "linux-generic-2.6.22.10.11". [Bug 110395] Re: No Sound on Toshiba P100-MA2
I've got the same problem on Toshiba P100-PSPA3C SD402E. I've tried the DSDT.aml fix as described but it does not appear to be working. Not sure how to confirm if kernel is using the .aml patch in the initial ram disk image I created. Any idea how to tell? I am using 7.04, bios v4, created my own .aml as per the link. Would be really nice if I didn't have to do all this :), but I'll keep trying. -- No Sound on Toshiba P100-MA2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/110395 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
