[Bug 1621539] Re: Unable to schedule "PM" events in Gnome Calendar 3.20.2
Hey Jeremy and Chris! Just download and checked your Gnome calendar fix and it now works as I would expect. Before I wasn't seeing an "AM/PM" indicator and just assumed it would change as you advanced time. Now I see it and have the ability to use it without issue. I also have the ability to created a calendar entry that spans multiple days, but starting and ending at a particular time. I just noticed one thing that I missed before. It may not have been included in this version of the calendar application. I don't see the ability to set a repeating or recurring event. So for now it looks like I would need to go and manually set the recurrence. Otherwise you definitely fixed the problem that was causing me issues. Thanks for all your work and effort. All the best! [Bug 1621539] Re: Unable to schedule "PM" events in Gnome Calendar 3.20.2
Sebastien I have some other information for you. - how do you add the event (using the menu, clicking on a day) I am adding the day directly from the Calendar interface. I click on a day and add it that way. It appears I see the same problem from the menu too. - what view mode do you use? Not sure what you mean by view mode, but the Calendar is display a Month at a time - do you get the issue in a guest session? I have tried the guest session and another account on the current machine and both work, but both are set to a 24h clock. They don't have the "AM/PM" indicator displayed. [Bug 571366] [NEW] Installation CD or USB drive won't boot in Everex
Public bug reported: Last week I took aone of my laptops, An Everex Cloudbook, and upgraded from Karmic to Lucid. There were a few python issues that I couldn't correct. I decided I would do a fresh install of Lucid release and hoped that cleared up the problems. I downloaded ubuntu-10.04-rc- desktop-i386.iso (md5sum 9b88dce8d215a3c2839105ab8e3139be), verified its md5 hash, then burned to a cd. The cd wouldn't boot in the laptop. Thinking it could be the media, I burned it on other blank CD-ROM's I had. Still no luck. Finally I used the startup disk creator tool to create a bootable usb drive. It wouldn't boot either even though I had made sure that booting from usb-device was first when looking for bootable media. I also tried using UNetBootin to prepare a bootable usb drive and still no luck. This has led me to believe there is something in the boot.img or initrd.img that doesn't work with this particular laptop. I fixed my problem by performing a fresh install with a karmic cd ( 9.10). Once that was up and configured I went through and performed a distr-upgrade to lucid. This time the python worked properly. The solution to the problem is a ridiculous way to go because it literally took 3.5 hours and that was upgrading from a pristine Karmic install. Please take a look at this problem. [Bug 520547] [NEW] Ubuntu One is unstable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client I have Ubuntu One running on three machines. For a time it has behaved properly. Now it is acting up on all three machines. I can drop files in the Ubuntu One folder with the applet connected and files are not synchronized. I get to my new location and find that I don't have my files available. The problem keeps happening repeatedly. I have all machines set to current Karmic versions. There should be no reason for this. Its also sad that I have a dropbox client running on the laptop and it hasn't failed me yet. I'm puzzled by this and a little troubled. I don't want to use dropbox, yet Ubuntu One is undependable. I could understand a problem on one machine, but three and they are all different. I find that stopping and starting the sync daemon is very problematic, because if it ever stops working it seems you have to pull a Microsoft and reboot to get it to solidly work again. I've used Ubuntu since the beginning and have never had this type of issue. Please offer some guidance, better debugging tools, and a better way to determine the state of the tool. It has to work otherwise it will become a problem. [Bug 286998] [NEW] Intrepid: Removing displayconfig-gtk without a replacement is bad!!!
Public bug reported: Intrepid is making the move to remove displayconfig-gtk from the list of available applications. Doing so without providing another method of manually configuring your display is ridiculous. I know that the perception of xorg 7.4-2 is that everything is there that you need to configure X, but that is incorrect. I have a machine at home currently that is running an nvidia card. Prior to my move to Intrepid, compiz effects worked fine at a resolution of 1280x1024. Now that I have Intrepid installed the DKMS system fails to properly build the nvidia drivers which renders the machine useless for X when it is reboot. Making matters worse is the fact that when I do get X to come back there is now no tool like displayconfig-gtk to get my X configured properly. See I have an older monitor attached to this system and when its polled will not identify itself so X naturally assumes lowest common denominator resolution of 800x600! This is riduclous. I really can't understand why Ubuntu has to keep breaking X with each new release of the OS. Ubuntu needs to work as seemlessly on Intrepid as it did for Hardy and currently it does not. Since the processing of xorg.conf has changed it is important to have a tool that will manually allow you to configure the display. ** Affects: displayconfig-gtk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Intrepid: Removing displayconfig-gtk without a replacement is bad!!! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 287006] [NEW] intrepid: DKMS, nice try but fails
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dkms DKMS is a clever idea and it would be really useful if it worked flawlessly. I have again been burned by an upgrade problem that seems to target only some users of nvidia hardware. The bug had aleady been reported so I won't go into it here, however I did want the dkms implementors to be aware of the fact that when DKMS tries to build a module and fails it still seems to alter the video driver defined in xorg.conf. When the system comes back after a reboot it now tries to run a video driver that it can't find loaded and gdm tries to restart the display many times. The automatic X-configuration tool that comes up will allow me to get 800x600 resolution back, but I have no way to set it higher. Gentleman, you can mess with lots of components under Ubuntu and the user will never know, but when X is altered, version after version and has problems version after version it really makes the distribution looked flawed. If DKMS doesn't work flawlessly by the time Intrepid is released please turn it off and provide some other way to deal with the driver issue. I can certainly appreciate what is being attempted, but it is 100% ready for prime time. Please appreciate the fact that a large portion of the user base is still working on older hardware and the current solutions will make it hard to configure X manually if you have to resort to that strategy. ** Affects: dkms (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- intrepid: DKMS, nice try but fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/287006 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 281320] [NEW] [ Intrepid] Orca blows up X server
Public bug reported: I'm running a currently updated version of Intrepid on my desktop machine. While not visually impaired I need to use gnome-orca to magnify a portion of my desktop screen so I could clearly demonstrate a poor typeface and typeface sizing choice for a developing website. I fired up orca. I then decided to alter the preferences a bit. First I turned off the sound. This seemed to work properly. I then went to preference-magnifier- and enabled the magnifies capability. I also went to position and hit the drop-down and selected the custom option. The second I made this selection the X-server died. GDM respawned and I was able to log in again, all the while an orca process somewhere was still reading something random and in many languages. I couldn't find anything directly from within the desktop so I type Control/Alt F1 to get to a virtual terminal session. The second I did this I was greeted with a corrupt virtual terminal that had no prompt. Eventually, Orca stopped reading the random information, but I was never able to get control of the desktop again without a reboot. I have been able to repeat the problem multiple times with the exact same result! I have to say I'm glad I'm not visually impaired because if I were I would be loading another OS at this point! [Bug 278185] [NEW] Windows Occasionally Move Across the Desktop
Public bug reported: For the last two releases of Ubuntu, including the beta release of Intrepid I have noticed a problem where windows will randomly migrate across the desktop. The problem seems to be related to firefox only. Not sure why but if I'm working in another window firefox will start to move across the desktop. It will only move so far across the screen then snap back to its original location. While this is happening it seems to take up a bit of cpu as it makes the other window operations freeze for a second or two. I have noticed this behavior on Hardy and Intrepit. I have also seen it on two entirely different sets of desktop hardware. [Bug 276804] [NEW] [Interpid] gnome-screensaver locks but freezes when unlocking
Public bug reported: I ran into a situation under Intrepid where gnome-screensaver would freeze on unlocking when running the flurry screen saver. I'm running current Intrepid. The system appeared to be locked up, but I was allowed to login. Upon running htop or top I discovered that the flurry process was consuming 100% of the system cpu. Once I saw the process taking up excessive cpu resources I issue a kill -1 5134. This effectively stopped the process. [Bug 271408] Re: intrepid: glipper crashed with ImportError in module()
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 257052 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257052 From the initial stack trace I presented in the initial report we can see that the problem is identified in not being able to find libffi.s0.4. The file is truly not installed under Intrepid. I have confirmed this on two separate Intrepid installations. Digging into the problem I found that if I cheat and create a symlink called /usr/lib/libffi.so.4 and link it to /usr/lib/libffi.so.5.0.6 then glipper will not only allow me to install it on the panel without error, but it seems to function fully. The crude fix was primarily for diagnostics only, although glipper is important to my desktop and I really need to use it so it may stand until completely fixed... I traced the problem to the shared object file called _keybinder.so. The file is located /var/lib/python-support/python2.5/glipper/keybinder/ directory. You can see the needed dependency if you run the following command: ironman:~ objdump /var/lib/python-support/python2.5/glipper/keybinder/_keybinder.so -x|grep ffi NEEDED libffi.so.4 The problem can be clearly seen at this point. There are three solutions to the problem. The first would be to rebuild the glipper shared objects using libffi.so.5, readd libffi.so.4 back on Intrepid, or create a bogus symlink from libffi.so.4 to /usr/lib/libffi.so.5.0.6. I personally would recommend the option as all others are retroactively solving the problem. ** Changed in: glipper (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress -- intrepid: glipper crashed with ImportError in module() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271408 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 271513] [NEW] intrepid: gnome-screensaver locks-up my desktop
Public bug reported: Since I've upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid I've been encountering a problem with gnome-screensaver locking up the screen and forcing a reboot to get control of the desktop. [Bug 269425] [NEW] Intrepid: import does not capture an error window properly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: imagemagick I have just upgraded to Intrepid Ibex. I encountered a problem with glipper which I have already reported. During the report for glipper I used import as I've done thousands of times before. I first tried capturing the two debug windows from glipper and I encountered a problem with the second. I ran import and used a bounding box to capture both windows. The second window captured some type of corruption. I then tried to capture the one window separately and encountered the same problem. I'm going to attach a series of graphic files to the ticket to help explain the problem. They are as follows: glipperIssue.jpg = the bounding box capture of the two windows showing clearly the distortion on the second. glipper.png = good window capture glipper1.png = distorted window that was captured separately using glipperTotal.jpg = The two windows captured together using the screenshot capability of the gimp Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch) Release:8.10 Codename: intrepid Package: imagemagick Status: install ok installed Priority: optional Section: graphics Installed-Size: 4464 Maintainer: Ubuntu Core developers [EMAIL PROTECTED] Architecture: i386 Version: 7:6.3.7.9.dfsg1-2ubuntu3 Replaces: geomview (= 1.8.0), imagemagick-doc Depends: libbz2-1.0, libc6 (= 2.3.4), libfontconfig1 (= 2.4.0), libfreetype6 (= 2.3.5), libice6 (= 1:1.0.0), libjpeg62, liblcms1 (= 1.15-1), libmagick10, libsm6, libtiff4, libx11-6, libxext6, libxt6, zlib1g (= 1:1.1.4) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Device 0151 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 Memory at e800 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Memory at feb8 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] I/O ports at ed98 [size=8] Capabilities: access denied Kernel modules: intelfb ** Affects: imagemagick (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Intrepid: import does not capture an error window properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269425 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 269449] [NEW] Interpid: import doesn't capture root window properly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: imagemagick I have been using import from the imagemagick package for years. I have recently reported a problem where I needed to capture all the windows that were being displayed. In the past you'd run import and click the cross-haired cursor on the root window. For some reason this no longer works. Now when you do this it only captures the root-window without any other open windows. I have included two graphic examples of this problem. The first file called gimpRootWindow.jpg shows what the entire desktop looks like that I was trying to capture. importRootWindow.jpg shows only the root window that was captured when I was trying to take a full screenshot. [Bug 257896] [NEW] Bzr Needs to have self-contained installation for older OS's
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: bzr I recently started a new job that requires a lot of programming. The host servers are currently running RHEL V4. The servers are production and can't really be altered too much to install any new software. On top of that I needed to hit the ground running. The source of the problem is also a strength of bzr and that is its coded in python. The bzr project needs to think about not only creating newer versions of bzr, but also ways of encapsulating the entire python environment for a new host OS. The ability to take your pythn environment should not intrude in anyway with systems that have older versions of python installed like RHEL4. In my current situation I had three options. First, I could spend a bit of time getting bzr to work in the current RHEL python environment and risk possibly damaging the integrity of a production server, I could have used an older version of subversion as there were compile issues with the newest, or build and use git. Against my better judgment I built and used git as an interim solution. The good news is that I've learned git better, still not a fan. I perceive this scenario as a big issue towards widespread adoption. I really do believe bzr is the best way to go, when you can control things from the start. In my case where I wanted to use it on older OS's running as production servers. My current environment limits what I can be short of risking the new job... ** Affects: bzr (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Bzr Needs to have self-contained installation for older OS's https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257896 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 8.04 Package: rhythmbox Status: install ok installed Priority: optional Section: gnome Version: 0.11.5-0ubuntu8 I have attached a copy of an strace listing showing what was going on at the time the program froze. The program was 54 minutes long and when I move the slider bar to 31 minutes I get a hang that doesn't return. i ultimately had to kill the player with a HUP. I have experienced the problem with many different large audio files particularly podcasts. The strace was taken from the latest Fresh Ubuntu Podcast which is in ogg format and is approxiately 20 mbytes in size. I will also attach this file separately as an aid to helping debug the problem. ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Hardy: Rhythmbox hangs when moving forward in Large file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242430 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 242439] [NEW] [Hardy]: Rhythmbox Won't resume after pause
Public bug reported: I have a Hardy installation that is updated on an almost daily basis. I have been having this problem with rhythmbox since i installed Hardy. I was hopeful that it would have gotten resolved by now, since that wasn't the case I wanted to log a report and send some problem data. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 8.04 Release:8.04 Codename: hardy Package: rhythmbox Section: gnome Architecture: i386 Version: 0.11.5-0ubuntu8 I have encountered the problem will all files large and small. Essentially I start playing something and then I pause. When I press play again the elapsed time slider goes back to 0 and the pause icon is still visible adjacent to the file that was being played. Subsequent presses of the play button produce no results at all. I obtained an strace listing then I was forced to do a kill -HUP on the process to complete the capture. The resulting strace file is approximately 200 mbytes in size. I compressed using gzip --best to insure that the size would be tolerated by Malone. [Bug 221431] [NEW] [ Feisty ] bzr Crashed while doing a bzr up
Public bug reported: Have been using bazaar in a mixed Ubuntu environment for a little while now. I am currently getting my versions of bzr through ppa at launchpad. Last night I had just made a change to a systems configuration file. I checked it into bzr from a hardy system running the following version of bazaar: bzr: Installed: 1.4rc1-1~bazaar1~hardy1 Candidate: 1.4rc1-1~bazaar1~hardy1 Version table: *** 1.4rc1-1~bazaar1~hardy1 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.3.1-1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages I had no issues or problems with the checkin and subsequent update on this machine. I then went to a Feisty machine and tried to update the locate the work area there from the central repository that I had just checked my changes into. Currently the environment is set to behave similarly to one using subversion. The version of bazaar on the feisty system is as follows: bzr: Installed: 1.4rc1-1~bazaar1~feisty1 Candidate: 1.4rc1-1~bazaar1~feisty1 Version table: *** 1.4rc1-1~bazaar1~feisty1 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net feisty/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 0.15-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com feisty/main Packages When i tried to perform the update I received a stack dump. I have attached a file that contains the contents of the information sent to the console. Not really sure where the problem might lie and this is something that I have performed on a regular basis for quite sometime. ** Affects: bazaar (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [ Feisty ] bzr Crashed while doing a bzr up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 220700] [NEW] [Hardy] Encounter a problem loading SSHMenu
Public bug reported: I am now encountering two problem areas when my desktop starts. The first I have already reported and has been triaged and that is with glipper. The second, I'm reporting now has to do with the sshmenu applet not starting on desktop restart. I receive the following message: The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:GNOME_SSHMenuApplet. Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration? Generally in the case of glipper I would say yes remove it, then I would re-add after the desktop restarted. I am now going to do that with sshmenu. BTW, thinking that there could be a permissions problem somewhere in a lock file I logged out of the desktop, logged back into a VT as root and removed all the files and directories that had been created within the /tmp directory. The action had no effect on the error that I had been seeing as it still persists between desktop restarts. [Bug 201076] Re: Dual-Head Monitor Refresh Issue on Second Screen
The problem is not getting any better with any subsequent release. I would welcome any recommendations on how to fix this. To reiterate this worked at Gutsy and through some of the early releases of Hardy, but now exhibits the problem where the monitor refresh on the right screen doesn't happen without a click in a window or in the case of the desktop cursoring over some part to case a refresh to occur. I would put this as a high problem, particularly in the space of developers that use Ubuntu as a base for development. I know many that have the same class of video hardware that I have and they would be furious to uinstall to Hardy to have this problem waiting for me. I have sent the requested log files, please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you identify the problem. when I look under preferences - preferred applications I see that the web browser is set to custom and the command: /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/firefox-3.0 %s. In all cases, I get the error dialog as follows, and this is with the Youtube and Thumbnail plugins enabled in totem: == error dialog === Totem cannot play this type of media (YouTube) because you do not have the appropriate plugins to handle it. Please install the necessary plugins and restart Totem to be able to play this media. http://www.gnome.org/projects/totem/#codecs == end error dialog === BTW, the link that goes to #codecs above contains no reasonble information on how to fix this, which is contrary to the error dialog. ** Changed in: totem (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = In Progress -- totem not playing YouTube Videos https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214416 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 213494] [NEW] [Hardy] Glipper dies when desktop starting
Public bug reported: I use glipper all the time and I find it to be the clipboard application that has been missing from Linux desktops for the longest time. In the recent Hardy development I find that glipper dies when the desktop starts. I receive the following message in an error dialog window: The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:Glipper The is asks if I want to remove glipper from the panel. I find this very frustrating. What is more frustrating is that once the desktop is up and running I can then install the glipper applet back on the panel and it works properly. I have only installed this as an applet and I have never tried setting up a custom launcher. When the program dies there is no crash report because I don't believe we are firing up glipper at that time. Please help...
