[Bug 410963] Re: Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks
Weird error for me on an Dell Latitude D830... basically wireless works fine now if I boot with the killswitch set to off, then move it to on after login. However, wireless does not work if I boot with the killswitch set to on. The wireless shows as disabled in NetworkManager. Moving the killswitch from on to off will allow the wireless to see access points, but it will always be unsuccessful at trying to connect to any APs until I reboot with the killswitch set to off and not move it to on until after startup. Very weird problem.. I have a feeling it may be a kernel issue as it happened after a System Update. -- Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410963 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 410963] Re: Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks
In Karmic Kubuntu, BCM4312 (wireless on hp 550) does not work out the box. System > hardwaredrivers finds two drivers for the card. The free driver (b43) does not work. The proprietary one (wl) works, but the very installation may freeze your box. First, kde was frozen. I tried to restart kdm, and then the box froze, After after swithching of and boot, everything seems to work fine, incl. wireless. Thus, there is no need to compile your kernel, etc., though it is though way to install a driver ;-) NB: Before you activate the proprietary driver, you must deactivate the free driver. Else, your kernel may be destroyed!!! (That was what happened on my box. My luck was that there was an older kernel in the grub menu. Else, I would have been a bit annoyed!!!) I have attached messages, if someone should like to investestigate the phenomenon: My hp550 froze two times this morning. First time, I had to reinstall kernel-2.6.31-15. Second time, I just had to boot. The last two lines of messages.1 are: Nov 28 15:55:23 lap kernel: [ 9015.050364] type=1505 audit(1259420123.625:34): operation="profile_load" pid=27709 name=/usr/bin/evince-thumbnailer Nov 29 08:03:51 lap rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd" swVersion="4.2.0" x-pid="963" x-info="http://www.rsyslog.com";] rsyslogd was HUPed, type 'lightweight'. ** Attachment added: "messages" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36224664/messages -- Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410963 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm also having this problem. The output of apport-collect 410963 is above. I have the Broadcom STA Wireless driver installed. [Bug 410963] Re: Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks
Andy, if network-manager shows wireless disabled, then this is most likely a killswitch problem. Can you run the command in comment #4 to add specific debugging information for your system? In your case, you'll probably see a Network Manager log message in /var/log/daemon.log which states that the Wi-Fi card kill switch is disabled. Please make sure you have the latest updates installed also, as there've been recent fixes made to some of the Dell platform drivers which control the Wi-Fi kill switches. I'm also moving this to the kernel package as this is *not* a network- manager bug. ** Package changed: network-manager (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) -- Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410963 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
