[Bug 361431] Re: USB-IrDA udev hotplug support
This is definitely the way to go! But after irattach I need to modprobe ircomm, ircomm_tty and irtty_sir as well before run gnome-ppp. Preferably would be to get these loaded by udev as well. And possibly pop up Ircp Tray. And then use Network Manager (instead of gnome-ppp) to manually create a ppp over my GSM. Any ideas how to get this done? I have the same USB dongle. Re: [Bug 175444] Re: screen going black
Oh, sorry about that. Actually I am using the 2.6.27-7-eeepc version of the kernel, so I can not easily go to jaunty. My bug report actually does indicate a problem with xorg or dri, as it crashes frequently (in minutes) while browsing certain websites while other web sites cause no problem. Switching to another browser (I've tried opera too) does not help. Same crashes with the same web sites. I have no idea why certain sites cause the problem, they appear to be normal web pages. However the webbrowsers are the only applications causing the problem, openoffice, evolution, adobe reader, mpeg players work fine. Maybe you could move my bug report to a new bug? [Bug 491096] [NEW] Unreadable graphics in second X session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This problem occurs in Kubuntu Karmic. There are 2 ways to get the same result: - open a remote X session using xdmcp from a second computer - open a windows using krdc from a second computer to tightvnc. tightvnc configured to start a new session using xinet In both cases the kdm greeter appears, in the right proportions, however in the background some giant white text seems to be present. Logging in, the desktop looks fine however fonts in the Kickoff starter are invisible, and programs once started have scrambled title bars. The same happens in Debian squeeze (currently) with intel video. However, configuration of krdc, tightvnc etc. seems to be fine as other machines with different video present no problems. Note that opening a second X session on the same machine works fine. I don't know where to find the log of the malfunctioning session, but can find the log of the primary session, and config files. Let me know what is needed. [Bug 491096] Re: Unreadable graphics in second X session
The mystery gets even bigger: using a windows machine with X-ming to get a remote session works fine. I have added screenshots from xming.jpg (the greeter as seen from xming, the windows pc itself viewed remotely using vnc) and vnc.jpg (the greeter directly using vnc). And the mangled kde desktop in vnc-kde-jpg (viewed remote using vnc). Admitted, this suggests a problem in krdc (vnc). However, I can view other servers (debian etc), and as shown windows running a vnc server without problem. I have been able to solve the problem by using FreeNX server (karmic) from the PPA https://launchpad.net/~freenx-team/+archive/ppa. It appears that the reported bug has everything to with VNC not being able to display KDE4 widgets correctly, regardless of the vnc server (tightvnc, vnc4server). [Bug 787280] Re: evolution reports 0 bytes size for emails that aren't
- Yes, it is reproducible for all imap and imapx folders. It happens for me when I add or move messages to other imap folders. However, when others imap clients (either thunderbird, or evolution on another machine) move them then the size is reported OK. It looks like evolution keeps the wrong size of the message in it's local cache when it moves the message itself. - The same occurs for messages with an attachment. The attachment indicator is not shown. This is particularly annoying when you are searching for that one important message with an attachment which is now shown as 0 size without attachment. - The bug exists since Maverick as far as I know, but is still present on Natty. - Please raise the importance of this issue. [Bug 897417] [NEW] Can't boot kubuntu after installing along side windows 7
Public bug reported: I had Windows 7 installed taking a full 1TB drive. That is 100 MB whatever (swap?) partition and the remaining of the drive allocated to Windows 7. Using the Installer from the Live CD (kubuntu oneric 64 bits) I was offered the option to install 'along side' , which showed Kubuntu would be installed in the free 500MB partition after the Windows 7 partition would be shrunk to 500MB. This all actually happened correctly. However... Kubuntu does not show in the grub boot menu! After first booting after install it directly boots into Windows 7, does a check disk and continues into Windows without problem. I know that the grub boot menu is normally not displayed, although I thought it would on a dual boot installation. I DO know how to display the boot menu after POST and doing this it shows like 4 different ways to boot Windows, BUT NO kubuntu. I seems like Kubuntu did not detect itself when generating the grub menu? Booting off the live CD shows correct Kubuntu partitions have been created (of course as grub itself is inside /boot). Reading on about the subject, most 'dual boot' advice pages tell to resize the windows partition from the live CD, the reboot to windows, go through the check procedure and then reboot to the installer and install into the free space. Has anyone had success following my procedure (automatically shrink windows and install ubuntu/kubuntu in the resulting free space)? Yes, I have natty-updates enabled and 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.1 installed. The above screenshots were with the latest packages (natty-proposed not enabled). I looks like the longer I have an application running the more distored the fonts. I can hardly read what I'm typing right now. Could it be related to some font cache? [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900
No, on one system I never suspend. It seems more related to the time an application or the system is running. BTW it also occured on Debian Squeeze with kernels earlier then 2.6.38. I am not sure but I think it got introduced with the intel driver 2.14. [Bug 709778] Re: Libreoffice base form design doesn't show toolbars, can't show them
From what I've read in the document foundation news group the problem is specific to the Ubuntu packaged version. It is claimed the problem does not occur in the document foundation build. If so, I think that would justify an update. Slowness: yes I've experienced that too. I guess you use the embedded HSQL database? Typically when opening a table I get about 10 record per 1or 2 seconds. That is terrible! I moved my data to an external mysql database. Reported is the problem is caused by the java version and going back to an older one improves the performance. [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900
Yes, and no. I'm not using a dutch localization, so you I don't normally have Cyrillic fonts :-) Also I'm using Kubuntu (though with evolution). But both on Eeepc and 945G the problem is that fonts are broken. Each broken letter shows the same distortion as shown in screenshot $1 (where the 'e' is broken). But the broken letters are not the same with each boot. Also in firefox when you increase the font size it changes and at a certain font size will go away. With Eeepc the system is usable mostly, with 845G text can become totally unreadable. Screen shots in #16 - #19 were taken on the 945G, but after I had been fiddling with changing the default kwin fonts, so it didn't even look so bad as normally. But after reboot the at first 'readable' font are again broken. But as shown in screen shot #19 also icons are sometimes distorted (as you can see in the navigation iicons). [Bug 782292] Re: Base cannot add/edit records using postgres sdbc driver
It also occurs with LO 3.3 winxp and OO 3.3. My guess the problem is with the sdbc driver 0.7.6.b. With OO 3.2.1 and sdbc 0.7.6.a there is no problem. For the time being I need to revert to the (very slow) jdbc driver. I applied https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35784 #16 to the sources LO 3.3.4 from Ubuntu and can confirm this fixes the problem with adding/editing records. It is a very small patch and it would be great if this could be applied to LO in Natty, possibly via the PPA. Any chance of that happing Bjorn? [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900
Sitofe, Currently on my eeepc I see these both problems sporadically, but it is very workable, so I don't dare to complain. I have had these same corruptions on the eeepc before. It seems to be coming and going with linux releases. On the desktop with 945G at times ff becomes unreadable, until I press increase font size 2 times (ctrl-+). Both problems you mention can be observed (exactly as you say, it affects a certain character/font/size combination, and eventually more and more become broken, switching to another size/font temporarily solves the problem), but the font problem is the most common and disturbing. Note that while some complain about their terminal program, I don't see it in konsole (KDE terminal). This may be due to the font used? So yes, I see the things you see, right now the 945G is affected most. I can try tiling=false, and will report back. But I don't know what else I can do. Any other suggestions? Sitofe, I created an empty xorg.conf and pasted the lines exactly as above. Right now I have no artifacts as far as I can see (5 minutes ago I could hardly read the screen). I must admit: 15 minutes ago I added to ppa's: ppa:kubuntu-ppa and ppa:glasen/intel-driver and then rebooted prior to following your advise. That did not change anything. Not even the terrible frame rate I get with desktop effects enabled and the FPS widget enabled (2 fps). *Note that this does work for my Eeepc 900* which now has about 30 fps. 900MHz Pentium M beats Core 2 Duo 3GHz. So it seem like DebugWait does the trick! Yeeah. Thanks so much! Care to enlighten me why this works? [Bug 774207] Re: [Natty Intel 945GME] No desktop effects (kwin 100% cpu)
Bryce on #5: This is not true. With Maverick and Kubuntu updated to 4.6.2 from the PPA it worked fine. Right now I have updated both the eeepc and desktop again from the ppa to 4.6.3. For the eeepc (900MHz Pentium M) I get about 30 FPS with desktop effects enabled and the FPS widget enabled (shows kwin's fps live). On the Core 2 Duo 3GHz I get 2 (!) FPS. This used to be about 50 FPS in Maverick. Something happened to the driver (since Maverick + kde 4.6.2 worked and Natty not) that is specific to at least 945G. Please mark as valid. @Guiodic: ah, sorry. My guess is an optional feature in the linux version (but not the windows version). When you right click an embedded object you select edit out of place. This feature is now not available any more. I think it never really worked well, because when you resized the out-of-place object window the size of the object was also changed. [Bug 635223] Re: Wine applications not listed in Unity Applications Place
I may be missing the point here but... 1) the netbook-launcher in Lucid did pretty much the same job: transform the free-desktop structures into a flat structure. Why not do the same here? 2) Using the menu editor you could (Lucid UNE) hide unnecessary cruft from appearing under the wine folder in netbook-launcher (like the uninstall programs) 3) Unity normally runs on netbooks. How many wine items would a user install? If they are like me they would attempt M$ Office, as OO does not handle all Word and Powerpoint files well. They might even install some(few) other windows programs for which they have no linux equivalent. But thousands? Come on, wine does not work that well yet. 4) A lot of installed programs don't show up now. In my case for example nautilus. Don't know why. 5) A lot of unnecessary junk does appear. I have configuration editor 3x. In the past I would just hide 2 of them using the menu editor. As it stands now, netbook-launcher did much the same as Unity, but without the limitations. But I already start to like Unity and would not want to replace it permanently. But I think half a year is a long wait, to long. For the most visible app in Ubuntu netbook, I think it deserves a high priority to get fixed. [Bug 566901] Re: [kubuntu] OOo creates empty files with incremental number on cifs shares
Ian is right, it does not depend on kubuntu. Currently I work around the problem by using nautilus (in kubuntu) to mount my samba servers. Until this bug occurred I used smb4k. The difference is of course nautilus uses fuse and the mounted smb share can be found under .gvfs, smb4k uses cifs and mounts under .smb4k. [Bug 1065547] Re: Please remove kompozer from quantal
I don't follow this reasoning. Now because of upgrading from Precise to Quantal there is no WYSIWYG web authoring tool at all. Please build this package for Quantal or suggest an equivalent. [Bug 1065547] Re: Please remove kompozer from quantal
Well, maybe there is something wrong with the build envirnment then. I just installed kompozer and kompozer-data from precise in quantal and it seem to just work. So that means the package can be built (in precise) and the built packages work (in quantal). Isn't it just a packaging error? PS I admit I just did a quick check to see if it starts and displays a html page. There may be of course bugs now that didn't exist in precise. But the bugs that were already there didn't stop me from using the package. I think it is probably the best free WYSIWYG html editor for linux, and possibly even better then what can you find for windows. That development has stopped doesn't mean it is not good, it can also mean there is nothing more to do. [Bug 1065547] Re: Please remove kompozer from quantal
@Micah Like I said, who cares if bugs won't be fixed as long as it works reasonably now. And I am not using Debian right now, so really I don't care what they removed. Thanks for the suggestion to use gwrite. But like the description says it is a 'simple GTK+ HTML5 WYSIWYG editor'. I'm missing the split wysiwyg/html screen. For now I'm staying with kompozer as I successfully manually installed from precise. @Dmitrijs Yeah I did get that. What I mean is: once compiled (in precise), there don't seem to be any missing dependencies when installing in quantal. And I don't see any crashes caused by libraries being incompatible. So, it should be possible to build in quantal without modifying sources right? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1065547 Title: Please remove kompozer from quantal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kompozer/+bug/1065547/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 979320]
I don't know what you mean by '3.4.4 is broken'? We are creating and editing documents with OO 3.2.1 and LO 3.4.4 intermixed without having this problem. Problems start with 3.5.0 and occur also in 3.5.2. So it is either not fixed in 3.5.2 or has existed from at least from 3.2.1 until 3.4.4. Considering the amount of documents created in that period of time, I don't think it is reasonable to say 'it is fixed in 3.5.2'. Unless you have a workaround to work on 3.5.2 documents with OO 3.2.1 and LO3.4.4? Something more elegant then: export it to MS doc.
