Re: [Bug 117314] Re: latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems
Hi, Sitsofe Wheeler [2007-06-01 16:44 -]: Martin: Since it looks like we are headed for another change I think the word has to be put out to those who have gone and relabelled their /etc/fstab with the /dev/h??? syntax that we are now going back the other way. The folks over in bugs like Bug #94119 need to be warned that their CD drives are going to go back to being broken. Perhaps people need to be told what grub /module options can be added to diable ata_piix. People need to be warned not to upgrade to -16. People need to prepare for another round people having binary driver breakage Right, all of this needs to happen in the USN. The USNs already explain the ABI change consequences. Does the update go out as -security given that it's not fixing a security problem any more? What does -security mean? Yes, it needs to go to -security, since it was broken in -security. The problem was that -security was abused to introduce changes which were not security related, so we cannot just let them stay there. Also what happens to the current renaming bugs? Are they just closed? Do we just open a new bug if/when another great renaming happens? Is it worth trying to fix the PATA bugs being masked on SATA machines? Do we just close those bugs too? [Bug 118605] Feisty freezes upon Logout or Switch user
Public bug reported: Using Feisty, Gnome and GDM: 1) log in as any user 2) Log out or Switch user on the Quit screen The screen goes black, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace does not work, nor does the Ctrl+Alt+F1-12. [Bug 108720] Re: fiesty fawn - gnome panels not appearing from desk to desk
Done some tests and as far as I can tell, this update solves at least something. Seems that improvements started showing after my previous post. Now panels and desktop icons don't disappear when switching desktops. There are a couple of issues, anyway: When I don't use cube rotation, windows disappear from desktop switcher applet, so it is only by guess that i can switch to the right desktop in case of many application opened, because the applet shows correctly the windows only on active desktop. The second issue is: when using the plain old desktop switcher (no cube) one can move windows between the desktop using the right-click menu, and this is the correct behaviour. When using cube, these menu options are missing and it is not so obvious how to move a window to another desktop. This is anyway stated in another bug (i don't remember exactly which one). -- fiesty fawn - gnome panels not appearing from desk to desk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108720 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 118613] /etc/init.d/networking does not respect hwaddress
Public bug reported: /etc/network/interfaces (see interfaces(5)) allows for setting hwaddress on ethernet adapters. This is needed by users whose ISPs restrict handing out DHCP leases to a fixed MAC address. In earlier releases this worked fine. Here is an example interfaces: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp hwaddress ether 0cdb128acfe5 However on feisty this is completely ignored by /etc/init.d/networking. Further complicating matters is that it seems we have yet another file that stores static networking information (/etc/iftab) which also wants to store MAC addresses. Anytime you store the same information in multiple places you're asking for trouble. Please consolidate /etc/iftab and /etc/network/interfaces and also make sure users can set MAC addresses on boot via this file. A workaround is to do this by hand i.e.: ifconfig down eth0 hw ether 0c:db:12:8a:cf:e5 ifconfig up eth0 dhclient ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- /etc/init.d/networking does not respect hwaddress https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118613 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 80520] Re: azureus crashes when the network connection fails
I've just realized I didn't mention the work-around I found in this thread: I've noticed that the reason for the crashes, all crashes (at least on my computer) is not actually the network failure but the error dialog. I have checked the Disable sliding animation/on top style for alert messages option (OptionsInterfaceDisplay, almost at the bottom), and I didn't have _any_ crash since (it used to be very often). Hi, Here is exactly the same. Mine is an Acer Aspire 1652 LMI with an ATI Mobility Radeon X300. I hadn't this problem with Dapper. It's just happening with Feisty Fawn. If I stop Desktop-effects, the problem disapears. I tried to insall Beryl instead of Compiz (current desktop-effects in Feisty) and I get again the same mistake after a while (it can be 5 minutes or a whole day). It's quite anoying... and the only possible solution in press the Shutdown button cause keyboard is not woking at all (even Shift, bloq. shift, ...). Any clue?
