I think our grass-roots advocacy website should remain as that, and
not become confused with the Fridge.

The Fridge is a great way to get content out to a wide range of
people. SpreadUbuntu would, in my view, be aiming for different people
- i.e. keen Ubuntu advocates - and would be equipping people in that
task. I think it merits a separate entity.

How about using this platform to publish the Ubuntu-Abanta* Magazine.

This sounds like an excellent idea---I'm hoping to see as much content as
possible land up on El Fridge so that people know that it is the place to
look *first*.

BTW, I didn't know whether the name has been decided upon, but I think that
'Abanta' comes off the tongue really well and also in English hints at the
conversation ('banter') going on in the background.

We started the site pretty much to take up the slack that the Fridge wasn'tdoing, as well as provide links and what not to excellent how-to's and whatnot that were buried in the wiki. Well as time went by, only a month or so,
buntudot.org became pretty popular. It was never meant to take over for thefridge, just kind of take in the slack since the Fridge had gone stale. That brings us to today. I am not sure yet, if it is 100% official, and I hate
to speculator, but it seems from conversation that buntudot.org will mergewith the Fridge. This means that buntudot.org will probably forward to the
fridge, and the team of editors we had there will now be on the Fridgedevelopment team. Now, this is 100% set in stone like I said, but we didreceive word from Mark Shuttleworth (sabdfl) that he liked the idea and was
impressed with the informal meeting we had in #buntudot. So, if things go as planned, the Fridge will have 4 new admins/editors. Thismeans, there is a great possibility of Official Podcasts. Since Brandon and
myself, as well as Jordan Mantha, Hybrid (sorry but I forgot his name), and acouple of others, have create a couple now. We still stink, be we are gettingbetter, and maybe with the merger they can get better.
If you have any questions, I can try to field them, if I can't I will get theappropriate person to do so. Thank you everyone for your interest, yourenthusiasm, and support for Ubuntu.--Richard Johnson ~

Matthew,

AWESOME!!! Yesterday, myself and Jordan Mantha (LaserJock) were discussing
the Fridge and how to make it better. Jordan and myself came up with many
great ideas. If you would like to further discuss this with myself, or
Jordan, we are always online, and Jordan is usually in #ubuntu-doc or

Yes I'm interested in being involved in this, as I've said on the
sounder list a number of times. First thing to do is open up the fridge
mailing list - no one knows what has been discussed, proposed etc.

I've just joined this list, having run the Ubuntu stand at Lug Radio
Live 2006 (report coming v. soon). So intro: have done a little bit of
everything (wiki cleaning, documentation, bug-reporting, stall-manning)
save write code.

If I understand correctly it functions like a portal (somewhat!) for
gathering Ubuntu news and cool Ubuntu events for people to read. How
about using this platform to publish the Ubuntu-Abanta* Magazine.
There may be other issues involved but IMHO it would be better to use
existing resources instead of increasing the Infrastructure work.

Thoughts?
