[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 286001] Re: [g45] Wishlist: Use native resolution of both monitors by default for login screen in dual-head setup
The upstream bug report for the lid issue is https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11455 . From what I remember the reason that this is not trivial to fix is that the methods they have used to detect the lid status is unreliable on some computers. This could result in the internal LVDS display being disabled even when it shouldn't be. Since the lid issue is being worked on upstream already, I suggest we focus on the issue that the resolution is set to the lowest common denominator (and sometimes even lower, see bug 404919) here. That is why I have changed the title of this bug report and set the priority to Wishlist; this is more likely a feature that we want to change than a real bug. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #11455 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11455 -- [g45] Wishlist: Use native resolution of both monitors by default for login screen in dual-head setup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379423] [NEW] Dual screen not working with Ubuntu 9.04 and intel 4500 MHD (on HP 6730B laptop)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hello, I'm using an up-to-date Ubuntu 9.04 on a HP 6730B laptop, together with a HP docking station. The video card is a intel 4500 MHD. When I plug a second screen (Acer AL2223W), it is well detected (brand and model). Mirrored screen is working well but if I want to work with an extended display, I have to log out and log in (which is boring because Plug in and out of my docking station many times a day) to have the new configuration take into account but the main problem is that the external screen is not refreshed. If I move a window, I can see like if there were hundreds of windows... I really want to leave Microsoft for Ubuntu but I NEED an external screen... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405896] Re: [gm45] 3D image image ghosting
Another anomoly has appeared on my SecondLife screen. Also, a sold black line about 1/2 wide at about 3/4 from the right margin of my 100X900 display, began appearing. The bug was on Gutsy and is still on Hardy 8.04.1 fully up to date. + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: ATI Technologies Inc RS480 Host Bridge [1002:5950] (rev 10) + Subsystem: Dell Unknown device [1028:01f5] + 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RS485 [Radeon Xpress 1100 IGP] [1002:5975] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) + Subsystem: Dell Unknown device [1028:01f5] -- Switching user twice causes hang https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/316481 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 9.04 Release: 9.04 Xorg memory consumption grows continuously with firefox usage. However, after closing firefox xorg consumption is not decreased. A new firefox instance will grow xorg memory usage further. Closing it again does not reduce xorg memory usage. Eventually all free memory is used and it will start to swap. The setup that shows this behavior has dual monitors and is using the fglrx driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394779] Re: [Karmic] No window border and keyboard input after installing fglrx 8.620
** Description changed: As in the summary I got several problems after installing fglrx drivers 8.620 from karmic repo and test my Radeon 4850. After rebooting the desktop shows correctly but: * all windows haven't borders. * it is impossible to open more than one application at a time, it occupies all the desktop (panel included); hitting crtl+f1 pops kickoff but is useless with mouse or keyboard; krunner pops in front but quickly goes behind the application. ctrl+f3 and ctrl+f4 not work. I can close application only from File menu (if any, see System Settings) * all kde text fields aren't editable; gtk applications yes (firefox, openoffice). The only kde application whose search text field is editable is KPackageKit (?!). * if I switch in a terminal with ctrl+alt+f1 I can't login since in my user password there is a @ and AltGr not works. I've switched back to xserver-xorg-video-radeon. I'm using last kernel, 2.6.31-1-generic, in karmic 64bit full upgraded. Some logs/file below. ** Description changed: Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 AMD/ATI radeon 3460 AMD/ATI radeon 2xxx Using xfix in restore modus leaves the computer unable to use xorg at all. This is what is suppose to happen: Xorg capabel of running with about no 3D acceleration, by dragging in vesa or something else. This is what happens: It skullbashes the config, by using generic output all over the place. Which screws over the grapics. Which results in hal being ankward along with a crash of the computer that its done on when attempting to start xorg. ** Description changed: XkbSetDetectableAutoRepeat doesn't have any effect; when autorepeating, keys are still sending both KeyPress and KeyRelease messages, even though with DetectableAutoRepeat set they should only keep sending KeyPress events. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 399821] Re: [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G
Hi, Just to clarify: The mainline kernel works fine. I can test the latest mainline but it won't be for a day or so. None of the Ubuntu kernels work since rc2. All patches which I've applied have been to the Ubuntu kernel source (by downloading the linux- source package). I hope this is the right way of doing this. I've tried the patch I mentioned and also those suggested on upstream bug 22980 at comment #7 (although I'm not sure how to apply the third patch as it doesn't seem to be a patch to the kernel source code). All kernels boot correctly if I pass the nomodeset parameter. Thanks, Twig. -- [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399821 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 399821] Re: [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G
Thanks Twig. Based on your information, if the mainline kernels are working fine it would seem this is an Ubuntu specific regression that was introduced. Thus, applying any patches to the Ubuntu kernel won't likely help. Let's try and narrow down the Ubuntu specific patch that introduced this issue. First, if you can boot back into the 2.6.31-2 Ubuntu kernel which works fine, I need you to look up and tell me the specific Ubuntu kernel version being used. You can find this by doing: cat /proc/version_signature Likewise if you can boot into the 2.6.31-3 Ubuntu kernel which fails and again look up and tell me the specific Ubuntu kernel version being used that would be great. That will at least provide the specific window of patches which introduced this issue. We can then work on narrowing down the specific patch. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393129] Re: Corrupt screen, HP Brio, Matrox G100 (display: NEC LCD1860NX and others)
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-mga Corrupt screen, HP Brio, Matrox G100 (display: NEC LCD1860NX and others) HP Brio, Celeron 300MHz with 256Mb ram On board Matrox G100 2Mb NEC LCD1860NX flat screen (native resolution 1280x1024) [update] When I filed this originally I reported 8Mb video (possibly as a result of reading HP Brio reviews), but I now believe it to be 2Mb. I have also tried a CRT display and had identical symptoms, so I doubt this problem is specific for this screen. The attached photo shows the display on first booting after installing Ubuntu 9.04. It looks similar to a TV that's lost the horizontal hold, and is also displaced a little to the right and down. Although some features can be made out, the content is shown as if 3 copies are overlaid in vertical stripes. The next attached photo shows this more clearly, taken after logging in blind. Note how, in the top panel, the time is visible in 3 places. I found that Puppy and Mepix do not exhibit this problem. The next experiment was to take the xorg.conf generated by the Puppy wizard and reduce it to the following, replacing the empty /etc/X11/xorg.conf with: start Section ServerFlags Option RandR on EndSection Section ServerLayout Identifier X.org Configured Screen 0 Screen0 0 0 InputDeviceMouse0 CorePointer InputDeviceKeyboard0 CoreKeyboard EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Keyboard0 Driver kbd Option XkbRules xorg Option XkbModel pc102 Option XkbLayout us #xkeymap0 EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Mouse0 Driver mouse Option Protocol auto #mouse0protocol Option Device /dev/mouse #Option Emulate3Buttons #Option Emulate3Timeout 50 Option ZAxisMapping 4 5 #scrollwheel EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Monitor0 VendorName Monitor Vendor ModelNameMonitor Model HorizSync30-72 VertRefresh 50-85 #UseModes Modes0 #monitor0usemodes Option PreferredMode 1024x768 EndSection Section Modes Identifier Modes0 #modes0modeline0 EndSection Section Device ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: i: integer, f: float, bool: True/False, ### string: String, freq: f Hz/kHz/MHz ### [arg]: arg optional #Option ShadowFB # [bool] #Option DefaultRefresh# [bool] #Option ModeSetClearScreen# [bool] Identifier Card0 Driver vesa #card0driver VendorName Matrox Graphics, Inc. BoardName MGA G100 [Productiva] AGP BusID PCI:1:0:0 EndSection Section Screen Identifier Screen0 Device Card0 MonitorMonitor0 DefaultDepth 16 Subsection Display Depth 16 Modes 1024x768 EndSubsection EndSection end of xorg.conf This still did not fix the display. Neither did changing /etc/gdm/gdm.conf GdmXserverTimeout=10 to 25 (following advice in bug #319363). But making both changes gave a good 1024x768 display. I downloaded an iso of Karmic alpha2 and installed this. The symptoms were identical. However, now the change of GdmXserverTimeout=10 isn't needed, though the change of xorg.conf still is. The G100 2Mb should be able to produce 1280x1024 resolution with 8-bit colour. Since this is the native resolution of the NEC display, this is what I would prefer. I'm happy to run any tests, and do complete reinstalls of any distro. I also have various other displays available that I could try. Though due to other commitments it may take several days for me to respond. I have dumps of the /etc and /var/log trees from most of these experiments; they're rather large, so you may prefer to ask for specific files. In case you're wondering, no, the Brio isn't my regular desktop. But it's a nice compact little box to take along to LUG meets. Such machines are often discarded these days, yet are adequate for disadvantaged people wanting very basic facilities. This is likely to be their first exposure to Linux, so it's important that Ubuntu works for them without intervention. + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 440LX/EX - 82443LX/EX Host bridge [8086:7180] (rev 03) + Subsystem: 3Com Corporation Device [10b7:1000] + 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Matrox Graphics, Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365943] Re: Mouse cursor jumps when two fingers are used
0.99.3-2ubuntu5 (it is in the X Updates PPA and Karmic, right?) causes the same problems as stated in #4 on a Samsung NC10 and a Dell Latitude 2100. Both touchpads become almost unusable as when moving the finger faster than snail speed, the cursor just stops moving and continues only in small jumps, as if it had hung up somewhere. A note: That two-finger-hopping is what I would have expected to happen - most notebooks I've used running Windows Synaptic drivers do behave exactly like this. I never knew it was a bug ;-) If there is a patch to make the pad working again, I'll be glad to test it. -- Mouse cursor jumps when two fingers are used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411542] Re: OpenOffice.org 3.1 Impress Very Slow
Hi Jono, Hmm, to treat this as an Xorg performance bug, we need some more specific data to go on, although I'm not sure what performance data can be gathered from openoffice. My vague guess would be that this is some intermediate library between openoffice and X (cairo??). But maybe we can just push it upstream and see what they suggest. But to start with can you please run 'apport-collect 411542', which will attach the various data we need for X.org bug reports? Also, are you able to reproduce this bug in any other applications besides openoffice? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365943] Re: Mouse cursor jumps when two fingers are used
@nh2 Please follow these steps so that I can see what's happening: 1. Enable the universe repository and refresh your packages list. 2. Download and install the deb package of synaptics-report (which works on hardy, jaunty and karmic) from this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~albertomilone/+archive/ppa 3. Press CTRL-ALT-F1 to go to the 1st terminal (you'll see only the command line) and log in. 4. Type the following command: sudo synaptics-report and follow the instructions which the program will give you. 5. Press ALT-F7 to go back to your desktop environment 6. Look for the synaptics_report.log file in the same directory in which you executed the synaptics-report command (usually your home directory) and attach the file.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 361618] Re: [jaunty] eeepc 901/1000 touchpad behaving wrong
Confirmed. Three finger right click does not work like it used to. I don't see and point to scrolling on the right side of the touchpad, since you can scroll with two fingers. Perhaps this is why three finger right click doesn't work. -- [jaunty] eeepc 901/1000 touchpad behaving wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/361618 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
