Strange Safari behaviour for only one user ?

2010-10-02 Thread Stephen Chape
Hi folks,

My step daughter has an iMac 17 inch 2GHz using Tiger.
Each of her 2 children have their own log in (with the same parental controls
set up)

On Thursday her son started having a problem with Safari.
He can open Safari and select anything in bookmarks OK.
However once he opens Google, enters something in the search box and clicks
Search,
the spinning beach ball appears, runs for about 30 seconds to a minute and then
Safari quits.

I tried opening the Apple website and that was fine, but once I entered
something in
the search box and hit enter Safari quit !!

Strange thing is that mum and daughter can log in and Safari is fine.

I have compared the Safari set up for both children and it is identical.

So I decided to delete the son as a user and up comes the spinning beach ball
for that !!
Have to then force quit system preferences.

Any ideas please from anyone ??

Regards,
Stephen Chape

Hi Stephen,

I presume Parental Controls is set to 'Not allow' the son to install any
plugins /add-ons.

1. Have you Reset Safari in the Son's User Account?
Choose Reset Safari from the Safari menu and click Reset.

2. Have you Repaired Permissions on the Son's Account?

Cheers,

Hi again Stephen,

When you Reset Safari... from the Safari menu bar, check all the options.

You could also test the plist files. If your issue is specific to a single
function of Safari, remove the related plist file (found in: MacintoshHD
Users username Library Safari).
Drag the plist file to your Desktop and restart Safari.
If the issue is solved, trash the file from your Desktop.

Thank you Ronda,
I am building a list of possible actions for my next visit to her home.
I don't want her to think Macs are awkward as I have only converted her from
Windows in the last 12 months !!

Re: Strange Safari behaviour for only one user ?

2010-10-02 Thread Ronda Brown
You're welcome Stephen,

There is nothing wrong with the Safari Application, there is nothing wrong
with the other two users on the Mac.
There is only a problem in the Son's Safari / or Account.

I did mention previously, that because of Parental Controls he is probably not
allowed to install anything.
Is this the case, or would he have been able to install any plugins / add-ons?

Let us know how you get on anyway please.

Cheers,
Ronni (who is still celebrating The Pies Premiership ... the Chandon Cuvee
Riche is slipping down beautifully ;-)

Time Machine and iPhoto Data

2010-10-02 Thread Adam Lippiatt

Hi all

I was just going through some backed up photos in Time Machine and noticed that
things like the Title and the Keyword are not retained in the backup.

This would be a problem if I had to rely on it as a lot of work has gone into
titling photos.

I am using 10.6.4 but only version 7 of iPhoto.

Anyone have any ideas on this issue?

Thanks

Adam
