OUCH!

Mr. Meyer has a "If you can't say anything nice, don't say
anything at all" rule on his list. Is that in effect here as
well??

Perhaps a recommendation to http://webdesign-L.com would have
been nicer...

must resist feel a font debate coming on.. serif vs.
sans-serif. ughh!!! the pain!!!

My 2 cents about people not really being interested in code. I disagree.
Totally. Good code for consumers [buzz-word for users not of the elicit
drug kind, don't know where I picked it up, but man, talk about cool]
means faster downloads, quicker/better rendering in _any_ UA, which
means better experience.

Good on you Jason for getting rid of the splash page, but I am wondering
why you are asking for feedback again when you have not implemented very
much from the feedback to your post from yesterday? All the feedback
said your site was pretty. But, your site still does not function any
better than it did yesterday apart from saving me one click and half a
minute of my attention sp

what this list is about.
3. Use of spans when you could just style the actual table, tr, td or
p tags etc.
4. Use of br when you used spans - use divs instead to create a break
or use CSS to insert margin/padding
5. Alt text on images that are spacers - they don't need alt text at
all. (Its bad enough that they are used as it is).
6. Tried to check out your hot logo design with images turned off, but
the page tells me nothing about what I would be looking at. Who was
the client? what was the project? were their limitations or awards
involved?
Because you are a graphic designer, and not a web designer I'm not
going to go all our like Graham of Telstra and say "Crap". That's
harsh and really not constructive. I also feel your use of serif fonts
is fine, as long as you keep it for headings and never use it for
paragraph text.

2004-12-01 Thread Cook, Graham R
So much for "harsh" criticism.

I must confess Telstra's site is no better, it still uses tables for
layout. However we are addressing this at substantial cost. One of our
biggest problems though is in dealing with design companies who profess
that they are aware of our standards and accessibility requirement then
go and build sites just like this one.

Web standards is not just a "nice to have". These days with the DDA
(Disability Discrimination Act) online requirement it is an essential
cornerstone of web design. IMHO all graphic designers and other
developers who develop for the web, be they coders or not, should attend
a course on web standards and accessible design.

Your front page contains this:
WHO IS THIS
GUY?
WHAT IS J.LINASDESIGN?
A designer who believes in quality work produced on a
budget time. Versatility in both web and print and the willingness to
go the extra mile to get the job done.

Not only semantically null tag soup, but neither of the two sentences
of actual content are grammatically correct. You lost me right there.

Suggest you do some research into this stuff, and code a site that is
at least an honest attempt to conform to the ethos of what this list is
about before you ask for a critique.

Try starting with Jeffrey's excellent book 'Designing with Web
Standards'.

Sorry to be blunt, but you're talking to people who are *always* going
to look under the hood, here. You need to cut the noise so your signal
comes through more clearly.

i don't mean to be rude, but this list is not about aesthetics and
design as such.

why are you submitting an invalid, non-semantic site to the Web Standards Group?

... now, if you were to show this as the "before" stage of a "before
and after" demonstration of reworking a site with web standards, that
would be interesting
