First line, first word. I am still stumped by the name of this baby. Looks
like an "M" but it is not the same as other M's. Could it be Martino or
Marinho or something similar? I know it could be a girl as the gender is
unclear too. The rest of the record is OK.

I don't know how common your example is but it fits with in the Portuguese
naming conventions. The basic rule for names is any name can be used.

My GGmother came from the Azores. Is it common for a daughter to have
her Mothers name as well as her Fathers name? Example-Jennie
Silva(Mothers Maiden Name) Solomon(Fathers name)...
while her brother has only Manuel Solomon?

I came across this record several years ago in Achada and was confused by
it. I went back this morning and realize that is was because the parent was
a slave. It is a bit hard to read.
What I can make out is it says "Francisca daughter of Elena de Medeiros
single slave of Joanna A
Is anyone researching Agua de Pau, Sao Miguel, is looking for Maria de
EncarnaƧao who was married to Tome Pementel? She died in Rosais, Sao Jorge in
1876. It looks like their daughter Anna also died there a few days later.
