my aunt Mary Souza from Stonington Connecticut was married to a man named
Gracia, but the marriage was short-lived because he died at a very young
age. I think they were married in Fall River, and that is all I know of
him-not even what his first name was, but the dates given here are very
close.
I’m fairly certain I have the answer to that. On Azores GenWeb, which is a
terrific source of information (Forgive me if I’m reporting something most
of the group already knows.), there was a book on the Azores —part fiction,
part non-fiction—reviewed. The fiction part is supposedly well-resea
Hi Eliseu,
Thank you. This is interesting and confirms what I was thinking. You have

I’m looking into a branch of the Gracia (Grace) family in and around New
Bedford, MA. Father: Joseph. Mother: Emma, born in Azores about 1890. In
this case, I can trace both to their antecedents, but the children, Gilbert
and Nora (also known as Leonora) seem to disappear after 1920. I can

Does anyone know what “half-orphan” in a California school record from
1918 might mean? Unless I’m mistaken, the child has two living parents.

*Well, Fred, the record is the "record!" Until someone can come up with
"credible" information to disprove what you've found, it is the only
document with a date specific for Goncalo Mendes. Was Goncalo 110 yrs
old when he died? Perhaps. If he was 110 yrs old at death, who, that

Actually, this one isn't too bad - I've seen much worse. This link lists
two baptisms for children named Joao - the correct one appears to be the
upper left; the dates and the parents appear to match the chart
data, which was taken from the Carlos Machado Manuscripts. My opinion is
that its a

Just found out why Graciosa is coming online before Ribeira Grande. It's because they had a lot of requests for Graciosa. So it pays to speak up.This also seems to mean there might not be any problem with the Ribeira Grande records. They are just going to be the in line to be uploaded. My question wi
Dano, One other find that is possible match for Goncalo Mendes death
record. The record lists his age at death to be 110 years old! Do you
think it's a match? The record is on the left page, second one down from
top.

I thought Joāo Ventura said Ponta Delgada digitized from the film. There
are only about 10 people left at the Family History Library and no one was
checking email. So no one may read this in time.

Maria Elena,
All the original records from the Library and Archives from Angra do
Heroismo are digitized "in loco", which means at the Library. After that,
they send the digitized images to the CCA who is responsible to upload the
images on the website.
I don't know if this is the same procedure
Does anyone know if the images on the CCA site are from the microfilmed
copies that the LDS Church made? Or have they (CCA) digitized their own
copy from the original records.
Just wondering if the repairs were made after the microfilmed copy. If
someone has access to the microfilmed copy at a Fami
Hi Dano, I might have found the record for Joao Mota b. abt 1636 shown on
your pdf document. Hard to read because of abbreviations but I think this
is his baptism record from Sao Pedro records having him born on 26 Feb
1635. Let me know what you think:

Maria Elena,
No one will be able to read the name of that child on that record as the
document has a big loss on that corner. What you see is not ink washed out,
it is a new piece of paper added in an effort to restore and give the
original paper a more stable structure. Notice the other pages
Hi Romona,
I don't know much about Cardoza's. My great grandmother was Caroline
Cardoza Machado and her father was Manuel Cardoza. My understanding is
there is still Cardoza's in Half Moon Bay that maybe related to these
Cardoza's.

Staring at it won't help, no matter how young, or old, your eyes are - the
ink has been washed away :) You could post it as "baby girl," but, you've
also got some info that you can use to try to give her a name. You clearly
have a dob & baptism, which may help you find the child who may have die
