For the second time in a month, I have seen crows chasing
Ravens near my house. They seem to be drifting south from
Summerhill. I live in farm country, not the deep woods. An
interesting development!

After leaving Jay at Morgan Road, my dad and I went over to Marten's Tract.
Highlights were another MOORHEN and an immature ORCHARD ORIOLE
hanging out in the grass. We also got looks at a perched Bald Eagle
(immature), Pied-Billed Grebe, Swamp Sparrow, Bluebird and a pair
of Bobolinks.
I went over to Lansing this morning to look for the White-Eyed
Vireo. Didn't see him, but I saw a Field Sparrow, Yellow Warbler,
and Catbird. There must have been a hundred Cedar Waxwings.

After splitting up from the birdwalk at Mudlock, my dad and I
went over and checked out Montezuma. There was a little
open water at the pool by the visitor's center, which had a
Tundra Swan, Wigeons and several Green-Winged Teals. Mixed in
was a EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL, the white stripe
on him
In the last couple days, my dad saw a ROBIN in Groton, and a BALD EAGLE
over Cornell plantations. I got a nice look at a REDTAIL, hovering in midair
over a field.

I just started getting e-mails today. Yesterday, I saw a flock of ten
Snow Geese fly over Lansing. I was eating lunch in my car today
and a Raven flew over. A crow was chasing him. I got out of
my car, and heard him cawing. He landed briefly on a telephone
pole, and then flew off.

Hello everyone,
I just got back from Wisconson for Thanksgiving, so I wanted to give
people a brief description of birding highlights.
In Ohio, we stayed at a hotel on Lake Erie. I got good looks
at Ruddy Ducks and several Bonaparte's Gulls on the lake. As

My neighbor down the road just called to tell me she found a cockatiel
flying around her yard. She coaxed it in the house, and was holding
on to it when she called me. I told her that her best bet was to take the bird
to
the Cornell vet school. I wonder if this was the same cockatiel flying ar

I birded behind my house yesterday. I saw a Purple Finch,
Flicker, Golden-Crowned Kinglet, and a female Rose-
Breasted Grosbeak. There was a flock of about fifty
Robins in the woods.
Today, I saw three crows chase a Raven right over Route 13

I birded Dryden Lake Saturday afternoon at 3 PM. Highlights
were a DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, a flying OSPREY
with a fish in its claws, WOOD DUCK, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER,
RED-EYED and BLUE-HEADED VIREOS. As I was watching the
vireos, a small brownish hawk with a short tail flew over my

After I split up from Mark and the birders at Celia's Cup, I walked
around the Blue Trail. I got a good look at a Scarlet Tanager, and
heard a Black-Throated Blue Warbler. When I got to the spot
where the Black-and White Warbler hangs out, I saw a

warblers- highlights being a PARULA and BLACK-THROATED BlUE. Lots of
YELLOW- RUMPS. I also saw a ROSE BREASTED GROSBEAK, and 2 male
BOBOLINKS. A VEERY was calling, but I didn't see him. Plus, I flushed out a
HORNED LARK.

It turned out that the bird I thought was a Pine Warbler last week
was a RUBY- CROWNED KINGLET. I thought at the time that the song
wasn't quite right for Pine Warbler. Today, I heard the full Kinglet song
at Lake Street, and figured it out.

'Endangered Species', and the bird flew over to

I went with birding with my parents all day today
(Saturday). We drove up the lake. Near King Ferry, we saw a flock
of about a hundred Snow Geese flying around, Blues mixed in.
At Montezuma, there were tons of ducks, and many Tundra Swans.
Highlights included a close up Ruddy Duck , and Green
I saw a couple of BLUEBIRDS today at my work site on Troy Rd.

On our way back from the CBC walk on Saturday, we stopped at Long Point.
My dad picked out a COMMON LOON on the telescope, in addition to lots
of GOLDENEYES and RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS. Coming up out of
Long Point, we saw about seven BLUEBIRDS.

I birded around the lake this afternoon. At Stewart Park, I saw several
LESSER
SCAUP, BUFFLEHEADS, and COOTS mixed in with the geese and seagulls. Next,
I went to Cass Park. There were six RUDDY DUCKS cruising on the inlet, along
with lots of COMMON MERGANSERS. I saw four woodpecker specie

HERMIT THRUSH. I saw a REDTAIL fly down a field, calling as he flew. I flushed
out
a single COMMON MERGANSER on the Groton Gun Club pond. There were also a couple
large robin flocks.

I birded Dryden Lake Sunday afternoon with my parents. The bushes next to the
parking
lot were 'Kinglet Alley', with several of both species of KINGLET. There was
also a
YELLOW- RUMPED WARBLER mixed in. There were lots of sparrows afoot,-
SWAMP, SONG, WHITE-THROATED and WHITE-CROWNED. I got a

eight Turkey Vultures perched on the roof of one of the local churches. Two
of them were perched on the steeple!

I birded the woods behind my house Sunday morning. I flushed out a pair of
wood
ducks at the pond by the Groton Gun club. There was also a flock of twenty to
thirty robins and a few song sparrows. The most interesting sight was
a pair of MEADOWLARKS flying around the field behind my house.

was a warbler flock in the bushes near the parking lot. I picked out
NASHVILLE and BLACK- THROATED GREEN WARBLERS. There
was also Red-Bellied and Hairy Woodpecker around. The lake

I birded the Von Englen preserve Sunday afternoon. I saw a few interesting
things.
Just as I was starting, where the two trails branch off, I saw a thrush. I'm
pretty sure it was a SWAINSON'S THRUSH. It had buffy cheeks and eye ring, and
it wasn't one of the more common thrushes.

I birded East Hill and South Hill recreation parkways today. On the East Hill
trail, the highlight was a PHILADELPHIA VIREO (new life bird) along with
more common birds like FIELD SPARROW, RED EYED VIREO and others.
A buteo hawk flew through the woods and landed on a dead tree. As
I walked back,
I birded Summerhill with my parents this (Monday) afternoon. We
started on Dresser Road, combing the beaver swamp in hopes of finding
an Olive- Sided Flycatcher. No luck. I saw very few birds there.
Then we stopped at McIlroy Preserve. Highlights included a GREEN HERON, HAIRY
WOODPECKER, BR
I hiked Dryden Lake Sunday afternoon. Saw 2 CASPIAN TERNS
and a single CORMORANT on the lake. At the far end by the road
were a family of BLUEBIRDS on the phone lines- 6 or 7 of them,
many fledglings.
Driving home on Malloryville Road were a family of TURKEYS
crossing the road. Lots of BARN
I walked the Dryden Lake trail this (Sunday) afternoon. The
highlight was a pair of CASPIAN TERNS flying over the lake.
Also heard an ALDER FLYCATCHER.
