This is a good site.
I've run GE Halogen sealed beams in three different cars for years and liked them a
lot.
Not to state the obvious but the charging system has to be putting out like it should.
Ditch the 37 amp alternator.

Thanks for that link,Kent. That's what a lot of us needed to know. I'll
definitely go that route with my El Camino.

I second the good things to say about madelectrical.com
I bought 2 pair of Bosch H4s for my '67, and that made a definite
improvement on the stock T3s. A few months after that, I rewired the
headlights with relays, and that was simply outstanding.

You might add some relays so you can run some 100A
high beams. Some good bulbs will set the grass afire by the side of the road.

Very good questions,Scott, and I hope we see some good discussion on this
subject. The headlights on my 69 are just pathetic and I have been thinking
about swapping the sealed beams out for some Lucas-style tribar units with
halogen bulbs. Hopefully, these will work without having to upgrade the

I'm a new one to the list but I wanted to see what is good for a 68 Chevelle
in terms of headlights. I had forgotten how poor lights were back then
compared to now. It has halogen but they just don't light up the street
like I need. My very nasty 58' Chev back in the early 60's ran some Lucas

Heya!
This used to happen to me. It turned out to be a combination of bad
grounds at the headlights, as well as burnt connectors.
Buy a dozen 0.375" (check that, it might be different for stock
lights. That's 3/8") female spade terminals and some heatshrink, and
replace the old connectors. C
