I just assumed he was referring to the usual practice of most card
companies to add a handling fee on top of the exchange rate. Usu
Agree with Deadkenny on Parcelforce. On one occasion they put a card
through someone else's door and then sent the package back to Hawaii
when I did not collect it. Needless to say they sent it back surface
mail but it did arrive back with the maker, three months later.

Perhaps simbo was referring to the exchange rate itself - obviously
they never charge interbank rate, it seems to be interbank + 3.5%.

If you get a Nationwide credit or debit card there's no handling fee.
The exchange rate is pretty favourable too.

Ah, you went for the expedited service. I was looking at the delivery

Just rechecked - this is the wired version. Wireless models are £19
Well I wish I had such luck! This is a UPS package in transit to me at
the moment:

I ordered my TP direct from slim as a preorder and the total bill was
around the same as the UK rrp but I did get the free SB3 included. As
for UPS, my order took 20 hours from dispatch to delivery in the UK and
UPS rang me for payment of the VAT on a credit card when it came into
the country.

I based that on the UPS website's delivery estimates.

You're right, and they have some in stock. G

If you use a courier (UPS, Fedex, DHL etc) you will definitely be
charged duty, either at the door or by letter. If you use USPS you
could get lucky as Parcelforce in the UK tend to be swamped and a lot
of stuff is waived through. Downside is Parcelforce no longer deliver

OK, after some investigation, here's the lowdown...
- With the strong pound against the dollar, the base price looks very
attractive; $299 works out at about £150, but read on...
- Your credit card company will add a handling fee, probably about
3.5%, about £5 on an SB3.

Hi, just trying to work out the costs myself (especially with the "White

What is the shipping charge to the UK?

DUTY or VAT so final price was about £160 - worth the risk of another

Another thumbs up for Advanced MP3 Players. Might be a little more but
the service is great.
As said, importing is likely not much better if you get hit by
vat/duty. There's a very slim chance you might get away with it but I
doubt it with a product like that.

Hi,
For the record, over the last year I have bought separately an SB3,
Qnap TS101 and back-lit remote for these, and the service has been
excellent, both for pre-sales and support. Jon Nelson at Ripcaster even
rang me at home to clarify one point about the Qnap! I have seen a

I have bought 1 SB3 directly from SD in the US and one from Ebuyer very
recently. The one from the US was very expensive in comparison. You
pay VAT not only on the SB3 but the delivery also. SD use Fed Ex to
deliver and they always collect the Tax. Not only that some has to be
in to collect it.
I purchased my SB2 2 years ago, directly from SlimDevices.
Delivery was impeccable, back then comes the VAT and significant import
duties.
A deal not to be repeated too often!

Also note that eBuyer are also renowned for shipping stuff with US power

Advanced MP3 Players are excellent, I've bought a number of things from
them.

Don't buy from datakits.co.uk!
I tried to get my SB3 from them - they took the money, told me it had
been despatched, and then ignored numerous emails when it didn't turn
up. Effectively they said it was in stock (+ despatched) when they
never had any in the first place. I eventually got my

I wish to order a Squeezebox directly from Slim Devices but wonder what
the Duties/Fees/VAT would be?
Has anybody ordered from Slim and what were the costs or percentages to
pay?
Thanks.
