Hi,
Please allow me to pose two questions.
(1) What did Mike Hopkins and Scott Douglas really feel and smell about
electricity in the air when these two boys went to electricity stations
with their fathers? My guess -- that's air ions and ozone, which are easily
produced in a strong AC EM

Fair-Rite Products Corp. makes pads that go under the IC's.
Traditional mechanical wristwatches use an escapement wheel which rotates first
clockwise, storing the energy of its momentum into a small spring, then
stopping and being accelerated counter-clockwise by the spring, and finally
re-storing the energy back into the spring. This brass wheel has

I think that it is useful for all of us to read the SCOPE of the Standard

For what it's worth, I recall wind-up watches with cases which were labelled
non-magnetic. My assumption is that a magnetic field can affect the
movement, although I wouldn't think an AC magnetic field would matter unless
it was very strong.
A more likely reason for not wearing watches (or
Hello Tetsuya,
The publication in OJ on 1999/02/27 was not a new directive, it was a list
of those standards which may be used to demonstrate compliance with the EMC
Directive, 89/336/EEC.
The EMC Directive does not cover medical devices since June 1998, you have
to use the Medical Device
Just for clarification, Kitagawa and INTERMARK (which has already been
identified as a maufacturer of Ferrite IC pads) are one and the same
companies. In USA use INTERMARK-21-629-3620 or www.ingress.com/~im-usa

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to troubleshoot ESD problems?
Specifically, I am having a problem with contact discharge to a metal chassis.
The first thing that comes to mind would be to check for ground bounce with an
oscilloscope when the ESD gun is discharged. For example, I thought
IMHO the magnetic fields go right through the watch case and either
disrupt what's going on or can even magnetize the parts. Either way, the
parts are like stuck together and the watch won't run well.
Also, my father could never wear a watch, a great gift watch always would
stop. The same watch
Kim,
The standard is:
EN 50116 : 1996, Information technology equipment - Routine electrical
safety testing in production.
This can also be obtained as:
BS EN 50116 : 1996 from BSI or other sources.
The actual standard is only 1.5 pages long.

The original message indicated that the writer thought that this standard is
under the LVD. I cannot find this standard published in the OJ as being
required under the LVD; therefore, I must assume that its use is not a
condition of adding the CE mark. So its use is voluntary unless an agency
Hi Terry,
To answer your question bluntly, NO, there is no correlation between VW-1 and
UL94V-1,HF-1, etc.
The VW-1 rating is a flame test and rating performed on wire and cable
constructions only. The combination of the wire, plus any insulstion, jacket,
shielding, or taping, and coloring, is
TDK sent me several sheets of Ferrite material as samples. The material is very
flexible and can be cut to any shape with scissors. I do not know if TDK
provides this material in pre-cut sizes for IC Chips or have it available with
PSA. I have not had an opportunity to try this material so I
EN50130-4, Immunity for alarm systems, requires that signal lines be surge
tested per EN6100-4-5 using the coupler/decoupler network in figure 12 for

rating of 100 kHz, and the standard does not specify the type of

VW stands for 'Vertical Wire' test. This applies to wires only. It is
however, the best class.
94 V series is the UL 94 standard, Vertical positioning of the test sample.

Dear groupe,
For a year ago I got a standard under the LVD which called for a
productionline test with HV test and earth test. I have now lost that
information and would like if someone can help me with the number and name
of the standard, it addresses IEC 950 equipment.
Best regards,
Mr. Kim
