We are migrating away from an SCR 2007 cluster to a single vm box for our
mailbox database. We have 4 DB's and have been moving mailboxes over the
past several weeks. Our PF DB is about 40GB. When I looked at all the PF's
they had a replication of the new server, and all the stores were set to

people swear it's great; my experience has been otherwise).
I recommend that you:
[a] Upgrade to 2007 SP3 and use the new functionality in the console to modify
all replicas
[b] Use the script AddReplicaToPfRecursive.
MoveAllReplicas has never worked for me.

Hello,
I am trying to add members from an Account Forest to an Exchange 2010 Resource
Forest Distribution Group. We currently have no GAL sync utility and I cannot
find the correct command on how to do this (if it is even possible). I have
been able to successfully add a user account from the
I'm not suggesting it would work properly - because I don't know if it will -
but can you do this in ADUC?
Your second choice is to create a contact.
This, among others, is the reason why (long ago) I recommended you get and use
a galsync utility. :-P

Michael,
I don't think you can do this in 2003 ADUC because we created a domain local
test distribution group and added the distribution group from the account
forest to this test distribution group. Nothing shows up in the GAL on the new
Exchange 2010 server. I think that is because anything

This doesn't effect us (yet) since we're on Exchange 2007, but I'm curious
as to why they weren't just rolled into the service pack if they are going
to be required anyway.

Sorry, answered my own question by looking at your blog a second time:
There is some question about why these fixes aren't available on WSUS or
Microsoft Update; and the answer is simple: these are not security related
fixes, *they are not Exchange fixes*, and they will not affect every single

Thanks, I will try that. Last time I looked about 3 weeks ago SP3 didn't

NIC firmware / driver
Firewall
packet sniffing after a reboot until failure

Just checking to see if anyone else has had this issue:
When I run a get-mailbox shell command/script, one of my databases doesn't
reply with data. This happens if I run it without an argument or if I try to
specify the database.
Without an argument, I get results from my other two databases,

How long should it take from the time a user account is deleted before it shows
up as a disconnected mailbox in Exchange 2007? Whatever process that is, is
there a way to manually start it?

mailbox in the morning.
Thanks again,

I'm setting up a new server on Exchange 2007 SP3. We have 120 mailboxes ranging
in size from 2.5 GB down to nothing. 3 TB of hard drive space.
Do you see an advantage in using multiple storage groups and databases?

The biggest advantage to splitting it up will be how fast you can get it back
online in a DR situation.
If you keep the databases on separate backup tapes, you can multi-thread the
restore and have everything back online a lot faster.

Absolutely. Recovery time should be your BIG focus when determining how big
you want to allow your databases to get. I know with 2010, in a DAG, they say
you can go as high as 2TB per database, but only 100GB if they are standalone
databases. Not sure about 2007.

We are setting up Exchange 2010 in our lab, in preparation to migrating to it

One other question to this:
The IP that I create a host record for, in the initial steps of setting up the
CAS array; is that the FQDN that all clients, internal and external, will be
connecting to? i.e. is that the FQDN that my OWA users will be typing in their
address bars to connect?
That's what I was going to do this morning-update the NIC driver if a newer
one was available and it was. Not only a Monday, but a first day back after
vacation. I updated just before I had to run out of the office and it looks
like it went OK. I just sent a message through to test, and the
