Trying to self-update fink, and I get the following errors :

i installed fink using the instructions for a fresh install on jaguar.
after doing fink selfupdate-cvs i get as 0.4.1.cvs as the fink version.
how do I get back to whatever fink version that works on 10.2.1 ??

Hi I recently upgraded to 10.3 and I am encountering the following
problem when I try to update-all :
xfree86-shlibs conflicts with xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs
xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs (version 4.2.1.1-16) is installed.
dpkg: error processing
/sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/binary-darwin-pow
Problems updating fink.
I have used and updated fink over the last 2 years with no problems. Last
week I tried to
update fink but failed. i cant remember having changed anything on my
macbook air.
could i get some advice on what is going wrong.

You may be OK then--I thought your version was 0.4.1 from the binary
installer.
What do you get if you type 'which tar' in a terminal window?

nope, i did not use the binary installer, all my troubles started after i
did a fink selfupdate-cvs.

also failed, but sudo apt-get install tar worked. now the tar version is

You can't use apt-get yet for 10.2--the binaries that are available are
10.1 versions, and not all of them work on 10.2.
Since you did a clean install, it might be worth it just to do a
bootstrap--there's a new version of the source install tarball on the
fink website (http://fink.sourceforge.ne

I'm a big, big, bigtime newbie who can't update his fink index. I keep
getting errors when I try. Here's my output...

We'll get it back for you then.
1) you'll need to forcibly remove all xfree86-* packages you have
installed to make sure the package manager is sane:
dpkg --remove --force-depends xfree86-rootless-threaded
dpkg --remove --force-depends xfree86-rootless-threaded-shlibs
dpkg --remove --force-dep
That's normal--there's no clean upgrade path from xfree86-base-* to
xfree86-* If you install the "xfree86-upgrade" package the upgrade
will be performed for you.
However, one other thing occurs to me. When you updated Panther, did
you install Apple's X11 (and want to have it installed)? I

Are you running as root or your own user? If you are running as a user,
then you won't see anything from root's .cshrc

I'll try to keep my story as short as possible but I think a bit of
background information is appropriate here.
Up until last week, I was running Mac OSX Jaguar 10.2.8, fink
version 0.6.4, and I had the December 2002 developer tools installed
along with (I believe) the August 2003 gcc update
