One of my patrons is looking for a book that has English and Hebrew side by
side to study of Maimonides Mishneh Torah. I found one or two on-line
sources that were eminently readable, but they would prefer hard copy.
Thank you

Has anyone heard of this book? It is in neither Avi Chai or LOC listings,
and in GoodReads, it was damned with very faint praise as poorly written
and difficult to read.

That's about what we dealt with last year.
--First, we had a book sale for the congregation.

of titles to their antiquarian section. They are taking books with ISBNs,
but only some. We may make some money out of that.

I'm looking to update the archaeology section of our library, since at
least in magazines and on-line articles, there seems to have been some new
findings and works=-in-progress.
We do have some by Moshe Dayan from the 70's, but I'm interested in titles
a bit more recent.

We did a major weed last summer. One of my volunteers, a retired librarian,
has been going through the list of deaccessioned books, and linking them to
our on-line catalog from the Internet Archive.
I don't know if this is possible with Google's books, but it might be worth
a shot as well.

If our library is any indication, lack of use would be the main reason.

I second Aileen's recommendation. We have a set of these, and I'm debating
if I have enough in the funds to purchase one of them that is falling apart
(bad binding, pages falling out).

How do you conduct a physical inventory of a library? Print out the entire
catalog, and check off what books are on the shelf, out on loan or just
plain missing? This has not been done in the last 9 years that I've been
involved with the library, and keep running into books that are in the

A Sunday school teacher who I know, who is trans, has just brought up a
concern about the cross-dressing costumes of Purim. She is very averse to
the concept, and it makes her upset to see people making it out to be a
great joke.
The book that drew her concern was "Purim Play" by Roni Schotter. Sh

We have notations for Oversize, Reference, Children's, and a few other
collections, but we've recently added a collection of books that will be in
our archive area. Is there a commonly used term for this category? If so,
what might it be.
Thank you

If your budget allows, the Koren Talmud Balvi would be an excellent
addition. While it does include Hebrew, the amount of description and
graphics make it more approachable to less scholarly folks.

We have a section in both the children's bookcart (up to age 6/7) and
Juvenile (7-9) that is labeled Holocaust. The older children's section is
set up by Elezar numbers and fiction. At one point we had the Holocaust
fiction separated and labeled as such, but now, we have those fiction

Check with any neighboring Holocaust centers to see if they are interested.
Also, I've been referred to Better World Books in the past, but I'm not
sure what their requirements are.

There used to be a page of libraries that use the Elazar classification
system. I'm having difficulty finding it on the AJL member website.
Is it still available?
I'm training a Hebrew-literate person to enter books in our on-line
catalog, and hoping to find resources for her to use.
Thank you!

The day school attached to our shul has a Little Free Library. I generally
recycle the children's books that are weeded out, or the ones that are
donated. There seems to be a pretty good turnover.
I could ask the school if there have been any problems associated with it,
if you wish.

Does anyone have the following book in their library, and how do you assign
it? I'm using Elezar, and am not sure if it belongs in history, biography,
or somewhere else:
Stephen S. Wise
Servant of the People
Selected Letters
Ed. Carl. H. Voss
Thank you for any help you can provide.

If you have the book, or if there is an on-line source for
Elezar cataloging information, in the front of the book is a guide to how
to figure out what number should be assigned to the book. That was how I
learned to assign the numbers.

During this closure, I've been doing maintenance and cleaning in the

Something I've noticed in several sets of reference volumes, is that we are

One of my congregants has asked for a tikun, which she says has the

We have a cart where we put any donated books that we don't want to add to
our collection. The sign says "Free, or make a donation to the library fund
or temple". Remarkably, I rarely have to geniza or throw out books on that
cart, regardless of how strange or esoteric the topics.
